I've used a Netgear DG834Gv2 Wirless Router for a couple of years and its been brilliant apart from its range but that is down to the old three storey Victorian brickwork it has to fight its way though! I have a ceiling pad aerial which has helped but we had dead spots all over the place. We use wireless extensively for Laptops, Handhelds and Skype VOIP phones.
So we got two Netgear XE102 Ethernet Power Line bridges and a strategically placed Netgear WG602 Access point.
The XE102s took 10 minutes to plug in and configure and the WG602 about 5 minutes to configure as a repeater.
Now we have thumping reception in every nook and cranny and 100 yards in any direction outside the building - in fact my Skype/FON configuration is at long last making money from passing VOIPers.
Fast fitting for the XE102s (what a brilliant idea to use your power cables as the means to connect by ethernet), Faster still to get the WG602 Access point talking to the DG834 Router and now we've got the Fastest network we've ever had.

OK, at 54G it's not exactly the fastest kid on the block, and it lacks the features a lot of all-in-one devices have. Even so, as a dedicated piece of wireless kit, you simply cannot beat this model at this price-point. It does wireless only, and it does it exceptionally well. It's performance almost equals Netgear's enterprise Prosafe range. Additionally to it's solidness, if you have more than one of these beasties, you can easily use them to set up a "roamable" wireless bridge system. You can connect up a whole building with a few of these, thanks to it's built-in bridging function. For the rest, it supports all the latest wireless security techniques, so you can have a safe, solid network. I have two of these I use around the house, effectively eliminating any patches of bad reception. This is really a 5-star product, even if it's not rated at the higher 108Mb "SuperG" speeds.

A GREAT PIECE OF KIT. PLUGED NETGEAR ACCESS POINT INTO MY NETGEAR RP614 ROUTER POWERED IT UP AND HEY PRESTO MY WIFI LAPTOP WAS INSTENTLY ON THE NET AND SURFING .THEN SLIPPED THE SUPPLIED SET UP DISC INTO MY LAPTOP AND SET THE SECURITY SETTINGS ON THE EASY TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS ON THE DISC.
Great Repeating product.......2006-09-11
I, like several other reviwers was trying to increase the signal across and area, but I had a separate Access point, the WG302. The 602 is great and really easy to setup in repeating mode.
I think, its something that all netgear products should have by default, is the ability to switch between routing and bridgin modes.
Increasing Wireless Range .......2006-05-29
I own a Netgear DG834G and wanted to increase the wireless range. Tried a few different antennas, however signal strength did not increase by much, if at all and still had very poor reception at opposite end of the house to router.
I found the best way to increase wireless range and strength has been to invest in a wireless bridge or repeater. (However you need two WG602 Access Points to make this work - See below) This means you can have your router/modem connected to one wireless access point at one end of the house, and another wireless access point at the other end which has the same channel, security (only WEP not WPA can be used on this bridge/repeater) and wireless network name (SSID). As you go from one end of the house to the other, your wireless laptop will alternate seamlessly using the signal from whichever access point is stronger, thus providing (in my case) a full signal strength and very quick access anywhere in your home.
Points to note:
Unfortunately, while the original DG834G has integrated wireless, you CANNOT use this as a bridge or repeater with one WG602 Access Point, you need to buy two WG602's to make it work.

Essentially you have this set up:
PhoneLine>Modem/Router>WG602AccessPoint1>---Wireless--->WG602AccessPoint2
i.e. a cable going from your phone line to your modem/router, a cable going from your router to AccessPoint1 and a wireless connection between AccessPoint1 and AccessPoint2 which both transmit a signal for your laptop to connect to.
Until Netgear released their latest firmware for this product (WG602v3 firmware:1.1.0), when my laptop was connected to AccessPoint2 the connection had significant packet loss and the internet connection was noticeably slower than when connected to AccessPoint1. However with the new firmware upgrade and changing both AccessPoints to channel 7 (other neighbours were using channel 11 and this caused interference), the connection is remarkably fast, always high, never drops and there is no difference to me surfing the web either wirelessly in my garden or connected to a wired LAN/Network cable direct to my router.
All in all: This product is excellent with the new firmware upgrade (free download from netgear support). Note: there are 3 different versions of this router - the WG602v1, v2 and v3. This review applies to v3 as bought from Amazon.co.uk.
Finally, if you are connecting the Access Point to the DG834G, you should disable the wireless broadcast of the DG834G to avoid interference and improve range.

Bought this item as a bit of a gamble. I wanted to bridge my wifi connection to my XBox360, which resides some distance from my wireless router. Obviously this could be acheived by forking out nearly £60 on the official MS wireless bridge, or by buying a product such as the belkin gaming bridge specifically aimed at console owners. Both these products I'm sure work fine but at a price. I opted to try this product as a considerably cheaper option. The build quality is good albeit its maybe not 'flashy looking' like some other wireless products, its basic but well made. Configuration took only a few minutes, and my Xbox is now happily connected to the internet.

Netgear WPN802 Access Point as wireless range extender.......2007-06-25
Looking to extend you're wireless coverage at home? I was running a Netgear wireless DG834PN Rangemax MIMO-G router in a 3 storey victorian house. Coverage was good on the ground floor but pretty weak on the top floor (about 1 bar out of 5 but occasionally zero). Looked into options: bigger antena (aparently pretty useless); run ethernet cable to an access point on the top floor; Netgear Powerline range extender (but was unsure about wiring/circuits at home); and using TWO access points. We went for the last option and now have 4 out of 5 reception on the top floor, into the garden and down the street!
The first access point is connected to the router by a short ethernet cable. Access point 2 is plugged into the mains on the first floor, and connects by wirless to access point 1. And that's it.
Would probably take an hour to set up if you knew exactly what you were doing - a few tips would have saved me hours.
The router, AP1 and AP2 all need to be configured individually via an ethernet cable connectd to your computer. During the set up of each bear in mind the following...
1. The router had a default to channel 11, the APs to channel 6, double-check these are the same channel on all
2. Security works with WEP (I used 64 bit) with configuration set to "open system" ("automatic" and "shared key" options didn't work)
3. The computer, router, AP1 and AP2 all need the same name in the network box ('NETGEAR' 'Home' or whatever it's called).
3. The computer, router, AP1 and AP2 each need a diferent address (ie the last 3 digits of the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx number) I don't think it matters what the numbers are as long as they are diferent and less than 255. I had the laptop as ...XXX.210 and AP1 as ...xxx.230 (as per instructions) and AP2 as ...xxx.231 the router was ...xxx.1
4. The router and AP1 should be enabled as an 'access point', but AP2 also needs to be set to allow 'repeating' (a check box, via a link low down on the page)
5. I was told you needed two APs but tried setting it up with one in the hope of saving some cash - couldn't make it work.
6. Once they are all configured do take care when booting up. Boot up the router first then when that's settled connect the ethernet cable to AP1 and start up that, only when that's running should you turn on AP2.

umm bought this thing from dabs.com cos it was cheaper! ha! shouldnd say that but never mind, found it was dead easy to set up, appart from the encryption bit, havent figured that out yet ! i also got all the other rangemax gear and so far it all works well together, also got the adsl firewall router (dg834) which is pretty gd and reliable, but for reason the network wnt allow for msn messenger to run of any of the machines in the house (6 pc's, all xp) but overall, has only dropped the connection a few times due to 2 many ppl bein online ( only 4 with aol), havent really bothered to test the range on the wireless access point yet, but it seems pretty gd ! anyway hope my rammblings were helpful !

I just got it to-day and wasnt looking forward to the instalation as I spent 3 days trying to install a Belkin via their helpline and virgin in the end I ripped it out as I couldnt see secure sites. The Linksys guys were brilliant at 1 point I thought they had gave up but it was only that I couldnt understand them - so listen carefully! I would recommend this System as it didnt look like I could install a wireless nework via my very old pc.They also made sure my new laptop worked before they ended the call - hope it lasts!

I have had a Belkin wireless router for several years and unfortunately it bit the dust. I considered purchasing another Belkin unit, but I had been given a personal recommendation for this Linksys item.
I ordered it from Amazon.co.uk on Tuesday evening and it was delivered the next afternoon.
The set up of the unit was a bit odd though - the instructions state that you must run the supplied CD-ROM first, but it didn't run properly on my Vista machine. It turns out that the CD wasn't needed anyway. I managed to set up the router's wireless security details through the browser interface very easily.
The one feature this unit has over my old Belkin unit is that it has a greater range - possibly something to do with the "g" standard rather than the older "b" standard.
I would recommend this unit for those wanting an easy to use router.

This router is DHCP ready so if your ISP supports this you can have all your pc's on the net within minutes. If you have kids then this is very handy because you can set specific IP addressess to start & disconnect the internet connection whenever it suits you, so you know the kids are not on at daft o'clock in the morning. Also has a built in firewall, you can ban cetain websites by URL or by names, great after sales technical support and you can run both wired and wirless networks. Ideal for virginmedia users or anyone that already has a broadband connection/modem in their home and looking to increase the number of PC's.
I've found the transfer rates over the wireless network superb and connection strength is excellent around my two floored house.
You won't buy an easier to use product and Linksys are part of the CISCO group...speaks for itself.

Epson cartridges - complete rip-off........2007-12-06
I agree that Epson cartridges are a complete rip-off (no wonder Mrs Wince (above review) 'winced' at the poor value). I've recently bought an Epson DX7400 printer. The printer itself is OK, but the black cartridge (TO711) seemed to run out in no time at all. Even if it had lasted for 70 printed pages (many of which have little print on them) the cost would have been poor value at around 10p a sheet, but the actual number must have been no more than 30-40. And of course, the colour cartridges are partly used too.
Do yourself a favour: find a suitable (cheaper) compatible cartridge.

There isnt a lot of ink in these, but compatibles are risky (i used to sell em, and i wouldnt use them on my printer!!)
In my view this is a good printer, cheap in the first instance, the ink does not last long.

Best-Gig and Cartridge Point share the same business address but I was charged p&p twice for orders placed togther that could have been combined but came in separate packages, delivered together! It's already a hefty rate at £4.50 per item. No reply to my email complaint to Cartridge Point customer services. The product is fine, the service from these companies not so great in this instance.
