Great Little Performer!.......2008-01-16
I was fedup when my favourite DJ on 6music was relegated to the grave-yard shift so decided I needed a DAB for the bedroom. I'd already got a Pure DAB in kitchen so know that quaity is good.
1st impression was, "It's so small!" [the Siesta was replacing a Multi-band Communications Receiver.] "it's gonna sound tinny"
Needn't have worried, sound is fab from such a little box.
Display is exactly right, I use reading glasses but this is easy to read at night without. Auto-dimming works fine.
3 alarm modes, weekdays[mon-fri],weekends and every day.
Time setting is automatic, from DAB.
The sleep setting is a doddle too, from 15 to 90mins in 15 minute sections.
Here's a clever trick though, if I go to sleep with Gideon Coe on DAB I wake up to Radio4 Today prog! You can asign either DAB or FM on the alarm so you don't have to wake up with same station.
All in all, a great little radio. I love it!
Lovely little device.......2008-01-09
Having had one of the original PURE DAB radios for several years now, I was pleasantly suprised to get the same quality of sound and ease of use that this clock radio provides.
The set-up was easy and the options are more than sufficient for a bedside radio-alarm.
I happily recommend you buying this item.
A compact stylish DAB alarm clock.......2008-01-09
I originally bought the iDock by Pure as an alarm/DAB/ipod dock which is a good idea on paper but not so good in practice. The sound quality just wasn't good enough for a ipod dock and the unit was not exactly cheap. So I returned it and bought the Siesta instead. Despite being half the price and only having one speaker this has pretty similar sound quality to the iDock which excels at speech i.e. radio four et al but don't expect to use it for house parties or impressing audiophiles. That said I do find my self listening to it quite a lot.
Good points
- pleasant sound particularly good for speech but not obviously a hifi replacement
- automatic set up: just plug it in, give it a minute and you are up and running
- very simple to use in fact you can ignore the manual
- DAB is well implemented and gives you lots to play with (it is great to come into a programme half way and see on the screen what it is all about)
- a USB port means this is future proof so no need to worry when DAB changes
- it is environmentally friendly using low power standby and recycled materials
- the display is light sensitive and dims nicely when you turn off the lights
- it is a really good looking, compact alarm clock that is the best looking I have seen
- alarm functions are good but...
Bad points
- ...you can't set the station you want to wake up to. This means if you are listening to say Radio 3 in the evening but like to wake up to Radio 4 you need to remember to set the station. Whilst this isn't going to be a problem for most people it is frustrating not to have this option. However the unit can be upgraded by usb so if you do buy one please contact Pure and ask them to issue an update.
In my opinion this is a great DAB alarm clock at a reasonable price. Having listened to quite a few Pure radios I recommend the Siesta over the iDock or the single speaker models as it has a very similar sound, smaller size and more reasonable price tag.
Great digital alarm clock.......2008-01-02
It's so easy to use, the instructions are easy and it works really well. You just plug it in, press select a couple of times and the time will automatically set. Instead of getting woken up in the morning with an annoying beep I get woken up with the good digital radio. It's easy to change radio station and it shows you the name of the radio station and you still have FM radio. The signals good and the stations are great!
GOOD LOOKER BUT PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHT.......2008-01-02
This is a recent acquisition as I was looking for a DAB clock radio for the bedroom. The Siesta is reasonably compact and, as usual for Pure, looks the part.
However, after only a couple of days I appear to have a problem with the auto-dimming on my unit. The first couple of days it was really good at night, although the numbers weren't the easiest to see the overall 'glow' was quite dim and very much to my liking; recently the unit doesn't appear to dim at night, emitting quite a strong light the reaches across the whole bedroom! I thought I'd got over this problem (expercienced with other clock radios) by getting the Siesta; now it appears I may have a faulty unit and I will have to take this up with the manufacturer. Not a good start. It amazes me why manufacturers cannot address this basic requirement - why not install a dial so that people can adjust the night-light to their own preference (as in a car dash) - such a simple solution!
Other than that the sound quality is pretty good and the reception in my area is excellent. I would probably have given the Siesta 4 (the instructions can appear a little complicated to give it 5) but for the fact I may have a faulty unit.

Simple and Great.......2007-12-10
I only received this radio/clock this morning so my review may be slightly premature! However, I shall do my best.
The radio is incredibly easy to set up. You don't need to tune anything or even put the time in as it does it all its self. This is the first digital radio i've had the honour of owning and already I love the difference and selection that digital radio offers.
The design of the clock radio is good. Very pleasing to the eye. The display screen is clear although not huge. Whilst listening in digital mode scrolling text runs along the bottom of the screen telling you who your listening to or what track is being played. I can imagine this being quite handy!
The only thing i'd say it misses is a light feature but thats asking a bit since all round it seems great and a bed side light isn't the hardest thing to get hold of!
The reason i've given this product 4 instead of a 5 star rating is cause i don't think i could considering i've only owned it for 12 hours!

Best Available for the Money!.......2008-01-05
Having finally given up the ghost on my aged but loyal Panasonic mini-system I needed a new, reasonably priced unit for my Kitchen. After much research I settled on the Roberts MP23. I had considered the Creative 740, Boston Acoustics, Bose Wave (too expensive) and Denon S52DAB (ditto) units as well, and having now had a decent time to test drive the Roberts unit I am very glad that I settled on it. I was originally drawn toward the Creative unit as it was just over £120 best price but the Roberts design, performance, SD card compatibility and DAB features eventually won me over and convinced me to pay nearly £100 more.
Having previously owned DAB radios and suffered with poor reception I was nervous of its performance but this unit is simply superb. Straight out of the box it found all the major DAB and FM stations just using its unextended aerial and setting up and using was completely intuative. (I have yet to open the user manual)The looks and build quality ooze class and are thoroughly deserving of a 5* rating. Usability is also a full 5*. All major functions are controlled by remote but this isn't a problem for me and you can easily switch the unit on (it automatically goes to your last selected station) and change the volume with the large central knob.
The only question remaining then is one of sound quality. This is a very subjective area and I know will cause much debate but I would sum it up as nothing but excellent for a £250 machine. Of course it's not a Hi-Fi Purists dream but it stands it's own quite well against my Denon DM31 mini system and a few year old £500 Sony Micro System. For a Kitchen, bedroom or conservatory it should be enough for all but the most discerning with loud clear and sharp music that is a match for most sub £500 mini systems that I have listened to.
All in all thoroughly recommended.
MP 23 is Fabulous and Good Value for money.......2007-12-29
I am very pleased with this MP23 Home Audio System and it has exceeded my expectations. I needed it for my conservatory, which is off the kitchen, as I spend most of the daytime in there and enjoy the radio. The MP23 is neat and classy to look at, and as it's not bulky fits well on top of a small unit.
It was very easy to tune in and select my favourite radio stations and the DAB sound quality is very good.I'm getting good reception so far with the telescopic aerial which does need to be fully extended. When I switched on the 3D the sound became more rounded.
My collection of CD's vary and include classical orchestral, opera and popular singers and all types of music sound really great.
The plus for me is that when I'm in the kitchen and therefore behind where the unit is placed, the sound is still good and rounded and doesn't sound like the "back of the radio" at all. I agree with other comments that it's probably better suited for a smaller room such as a conservatory or kitchen.
All in all this unit was designed for my requirements and I am delighted with it.
quality first.......2007-12-27
I bought this for the kitchen having spent a long time working out exactly what i wanted. Micro systems are too cumbersome with separate speakers and the standard boombox is not particularly hifi, or aesthetically pleasing. This machine is just fabulous! The quality of the display and the construction puts it out of the standard Comet/Currys league. The technical facilities (USB/ SD/ DAB/CD) cover all the bases. Ok, so it's a nice box of electronics, but why the price? Switch it on and the size of the sound, the separation, clarity are amazing. I have a high-end Naim system in the living-room. Of course this is not close, but i like my music and i appreciate sound quality. This delivers. Only grumbles: arm yourself with white spirit to remove the ludicrous sticker on the facia, and don't expect it to fill the Albert Hall. Also, where DAB is patchy (where i live) the signal seems no better than the £30 Tesco special it replaced. That said, FM is very good. If you want an obvious piece of quality kit that delivers more than just some background noise, you won't regret the purchase.
Very good, probably all you'll need.......2007-12-07
Nothing looks cleaner and it really is very small, just three and bit CDs wide. Most other Hi-Fi is too bulky and comes with spaghetti wiring. If you can't afford £1,500 for the Meridian one-box Hi-Fi, buy this. Forget Bose, this is much cheaper and much better. It can't replace a full Hi-Fi, but comes close enough for most casual listening. The Dab radio is really very good. CD acceptable.
Magnificent looks and sound from a compact box.......2007-10-16
I have been delighted with this purchase. I have been looking for a compact DAB/CD which can offer top quality sound without the need for an external amplifier or speakers. I considered the Bose but was put off by the price. Eventually I was recommended to look at the Roberts and was able to check out the sound quality on a friend's model and I was very impressed. The quality is excellent, even at higher volumes, and I have used it on both a kitchen worktop and recessed into a TV cabinet with equally positive results. For me it is adequate as a main stereo, but I advise you to try one if you are a music enthusiast.
The superb looks and reasonable price (compared to the Bose in particular) are just bonuses! The remote is adequate and trendy, if a little flimsy for my preference, but I would like the front lighting to dim a little more when on standby. You certainly wouldn't want it in a bedroom.
I have one small gripe for the distributor - why deface the high-gloss front of this device with a heavily glued sticker advertising DAB? A polishing cloth is supplied, but mine now has a slight mark which I have struggled to remove. Either no sticker or an "easy-peel" version please!
