Brilliant.......2007-11-09
My wife was going into hospital and needed a small easy to use and good performing radio. It has been all those things and we consider it to have been an excellent buy. Good sound and long lasting battery too. Thanks Sony, nice one!
A real gem!.......2006-02-23
I've owned my Sony Walkman personal radio for at least a couple of years, using it about 10 hours a day and have been so pleased with it I've just ordered another exactly the same as I've dropped it more times than I'd like to admit! Despite this, it still works so could be described as robust. It is small, lightweight, very simple to use, cheap to run with one AA battery that seems to lasts for ever and with good sound quality on FM. The stations are easy to set and the thumbwheels for volume and station setting are stiff enough not to be inadvertantly altered. I would recommend this to anyone.
Cheap but cheerful!.......2005-07-28
I decided to buy this Sony Walkman radio when my old Aiwa started gently falling apart after many years of fine service. For the price, I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality when I first unwrapped it and shoved a SINGLE AA battery inside.
The first thing to say is that this is a very basic affair - manual tuning, no presets, and no built-in speaker. In fact there are only 5 controls on the Sony: volume and tuning wheels, on/off switch, and selectors for fm/am and stereo/mono (for fm). (And a headphone socket!)
The unit itself is light and slim, more so if you remove the plastic belt clip (though I keep it on as it could easily get lost!). The tuning wheel is reassuringly firm so as not to get knocked accidentally in a pocket, but it is on exactly the opposite side from the volume wheel, so if you want to adjust the volume with the unit in your pocket you can end up changing the radio station instead.
How it sounds: with a good signal (ie my local park) the fm stereo reception and sound quality are very good indeed, and though lacking any bass boost effect, the overall balance is very smooth, even through the supplied headphones. The am quality is a poor second, as is to be expected, but more than acceptable for speech (if you MUST listen to the cricket!).
On the train (where I use the radio to shut out the helpful cries of "I'm just pulling into/out of Waterloo/London Bridge etc) the fm stereo reception is not as clean, resulting in fairly frequent buzzes as the train proceeds. Switching to mono clears things up and reduces hiss, but some occasional interference remains. However, this is to be expected in such a situation and is no worse than my old Aiwa. Don't bother with am radio on a train- it just doesn't work.
To sum up then, a good quality, compact, completely old-school analogue, personal radio at a very good price. And cheap to run, using just one AA battery.

Great little radio.......2007-12-18
Mine is the earlier model, had it about 6 years and it's survived daily cycle commuting. Great battery life, pretty good reception, if it ever dies I will definitely buy another.
Top Quality.......2007-12-04
Great sound. Simple to use. Very robust. All round high quality product. Only issue is the earphones which are pants so will need to replace these.
Superb radio! Best purchase i've ever made! Excellent!.......2006-11-02
Right, so this radio does not bear a screen, sleep timer or a clock or any of the fancy features.
However, they may look handy but realistically all they do is swallow up your batteries. I first saw this player in a local co-op electrical shop for £28.99. My first impression was good. but then i thought can I trust sony to deliver? Is £28.99 enough for a decent portable radio. Finally, I decided to buy it. And after 6 months of use, I cannot understand why i ever regretted it.
It's fantastic! The size does not affect the reception, on both bands its great. The megabass function is great too. Money well spent in my opinion.
Great item - fast service.......2006-03-30
This is a superb radio, excellent quality product and easy to carry. The size does not affect the overall quality of the reception............ superb
Not as good as the srf -m95.......2005-08-28
I was heartbroken when my SRF M95 got broken and bought this as a replacement. The sound quality is good - if you are in an area of strong signal reception - otherwise you lose the sound very often - usually in the middle of the footie. i also find it a real pain that there is no auto switch off.I have a digital portable but the signal is also rubbish. To be fair this is a decent little radio for the price but I am used to better from Sony

Superb Portable Radio........2007-02-05
This is a superb Portable Radio for general use. The presets are very handy for tuning in and keeping your favourite stations. The sound may be a bit tinny due too the small speaker but it provides great stereo when a set of headphones are plugged in. Power consumption is very good with batteries lasting a long time before they need to be replaced.
Sony ICF-M260.......2005-08-14
Absolutely superb, although the sound is a little tinny due to the small speaker, everything else makes up for it.
Compact size, very easy to use, good looks, the pre-set buttons are first class. I have had the radio coming up to a year and only replaced the batteries twice. Excellent buy, highly recommended.

RadioShark has bite........2005-04-07
This is a great little product. As with all Griffin stuff it's well designed and manages to tap into a niche you didn't know existed. The white and chrome design is attractive and compliments my eMac well, and the blue lights on the side glow softly to show that's it's working. It's extremely easy easy to set up and use, you'll be listening and making recordings quickly via the user-friendly software interface. I was interested in this because I still listen mainly to FM broadcasts. I purchased but quickly sold on a DAB radio because I was so unimpressed with the content (who needs twenty stations playing classic rock or superannuated comedy programmes) and the sound quality.
The RadioShark enables you to record onto your computer's hard drive, and if you wish into your iTunes music library. This in turn means you can transfer recordings to an iPod or burn to a CD, which was the main attraction for me, in addition to being able to listen to Radio whilst working at your PC or Mac.
Two minor gripes have meant I've given the RadioShark 4 stars rather than 5.
1). A small software glitch means that on a Mac if you put your computer to sleep without first shutting down the RadioShark software, when you wake it up again you'll find the radio has got stuck in an infinite loop of about half a second (like a stuck record). This is easily solved by restarting the Mac, but shouldn't really happen and I've emailed Griffin on the subject. It shouldn't be a problem on a PC where it's more normal to shut down and restart every session.
2). Whilst the sound quality is good, especially if your computer has a decent soundcard and speakers, there is a bit of noticeable FM hiss on Radio 3, which is succeptible to this, though it's slight and not terribly intrusive. I'm still experimenting with positioning the unit and using an external antenna to improve this. Having said this, it is an excellent product which does exactly what it claims.

A good wet room/portable radio for digital listening.......2007-06-20
Wanted a silver, but John Lewis didn't stock this colour at the time of writing this (NB JL have free delivery). Ended up ordering one from Revo directly which also charge £6 same as amazon.
Initially, problems with volume control in that the lowest setting was quite loud. Phoned Revo who said it was a faulty batch of radios, sent it back (at their cost) and recieved replacement by return of post which is much better, although they sent it with a European plug/adaptor. Again quick phone to Revo and one was in the post. Moral: Revo customer service is second-to-none and avoids a go-between (Amazon). Regarding the radio itself, very pleased with functionality and quality of sound. Minor drawback is that it does not have a socket for external aerial and the DAB reception in our area is not so great leading to fish tank sound. It means we can't save radio to card which we would've liked, however listening on FM is fine. Memory card function seems to work fine with 2GB although Revo guarantee usage up to 1MB only. In my opinion, this radio is a good choice for the humid situation of a bathroom, and with memory card Pico+ version rather than the standard Pico, gives the option of listening to MP3s as well.
