Would not buy from Microvillage again.......2008-01-12
First of all it took nearly a week to arrive rather than the 1-2 days. Then when it did arrive I got a small padded envelope, with the postage costs of £1.09 clearly visable on it - so what the £4.50 covers I have no idea - apart from a massive mark up and rip off. Then when I open the package I get the most totally cheap, tacky, unsafe looking adapter you have ever seen. Nothing like the image you can see on amazon for an US to UK adapter - this is some cheap Chinese or similar knock off. I'm not sure it's even safe to use looking at it - it looks like something out of the 50's! I cannot even tell if it's brand new as it had no packaging. Heck, I'm not even sure if it's a legal to use product and whether it passes UK laws. A totally shoddy experience indeed. I doubt I'll chase up the seller and demand a refund as it is an adapter, so he's advertised it 'correctly' but I'd advise buying a proper adapter elsewhere that in the advent of a problem you may have some comeback with. Aviod, Avoid, Avoid.

good but heavy.......2007-10-09
Easy to use, just plug in. Very secure, does not fall out after item is plugged in. Extremely heavy so high P+P.
Only problem was that it got really hot, in a short space of time.
Good product.......2007-01-24
Product is simple and easy to use - just plug it into the wall and plug your US adapter or plug into the back. There are no switches, sliders or knobs to fiddle with.
However, it's a little bulky and heavy for its size - perhaps a little larger than the US adapter you might be plugging into it. But it has a strong grip, so the combined adapters don't fall out of the wall.
The weight means P+P is expensive.
Brilliant.......2005-08-01
What a brilliant piece of kit, So effective i have now bought 5 for my overseas products, simply plug and play!!!

The All-In-One Wireless-G Networking Solution with open source support, Push button setup feature, and high security TKIP and AES encryption
The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect both screaming fast Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Connect four PCs directly, or attach more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.
Once your computers are connected to the Router and the Internet, they can communicate with each other too, sharing resources and files. All your computers can print on a shared printer connected anywhere in the house. And your computers can share all kinds of files -- music, digital pictures, and documents. Keep all your digital music on one computer, and listen to it anywhere in the house. Organize all of your family's digital pictures in one place, to simplify finding the ones you want, and easing backup to CD-R. Utilize extra free space on one computer when another's hard drive starts to fill up.
The new push button setup feature makes it easy to configure your wireless devices. Just push the button on the router and on your other SecureEasySetup-enabled wireless device to automatically create an encryption-secured wireless connection. TKIP and AES protects your data and privacy with up to 128-bit industrial-strength encryption. The Router can serve as a DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Advanced configuration is a snap with the web browser-based interf

1 hour to install -thats good!.......2008-01-09
I just got it to-day and wasnt looking forward to the instalation as I spent 3 days trying to install a Belkin via their helpline and virgin in the end I ripped it out as I couldnt see secure sites. The Linksys guys were brilliant at 1 point I thought they had gave up but it was only that I couldnt understand them - so listen carefully! I would recommend this System as it didnt look like I could install a wireless nework via my very old pc.They also made sure my new laptop worked before they ended the call - hope it lasts!
Great range, reasonably priced........2008-01-06
I have had a Belkin wireless router for several years and unfortunately it bit the dust. I considered purchasing another Belkin unit, but I had been given a personal recommendation for this Linksys item.
I ordered it from Amazon.co.uk on Tuesday evening and it was delivered the next afternoon.
The set up of the unit was a bit odd though - the instructions state that you must run the supplied CD-ROM first, but it didn't run properly on my Vista machine. It turns out that the CD wasn't needed anyway. I managed to set up the router's wireless security details through the browser interface very easily.
The one feature this unit has over my old Belkin unit is that it has a greater range - possibly something to do with the "g" standard rather than the older "b" standard.
I would recommend this unit for those wanting an easy to use router.
Linux-enabled, thus best forever!.......2007-12-27
This Linux-enabled box is the best forever for all of home users, especially for these real networking fans and advanced professionals. Thus it's unbeatable at all. Please NEVER simply compare it with other non-linux compatible stuff.
Easiest Wireless Network You'll Ever Buy..........2007-11-18
Ideal for the novice/beginner and good for the more advanced user.
This router is DHCP ready so if your ISP supports this you can have all your pc's on the net within minutes. If you have kids then this is very handy because you can set specific IP addressess to start & disconnect the internet connection whenever it suits you, so you know the kids are not on at daft o'clock in the morning. Also has a built in firewall, you can ban cetain websites by URL or by names, great after sales technical support and you can run both wired and wirless networks. Ideal for virginmedia users or anyone that already has a broadband connection/modem in their home and looking to increase the number of PC's.
I've found the transfer rates over the wireless network superb and connection strength is excellent around my two floored house.
You won't buy an easier to use product and Linksys are part of the CISCO group...speaks for itself.
Linksys WRT54GL-UK, Wireless Access Point Router w/ 4-Port Switch, Black/Blue.......2007-10-04
I found this very easy to set up and manage. Works absolutely fine with wired pc, wired iMac, wireless ibm laptop and MacBook. No probs!

A safe buy.......2008-01-10
Generally you can't go far wrong with this unit - we've got 2 in the family now, but beware:
The mounting really is rubbish and the sooner Tom Tom acknowledge this the better - you shouldn't have to spend more buying a better alternative.
Also, when using "shortest route" be careful - mine tried to take me down a field track at night, but fortunately it was closed off by a gate.
Still not perfect therefore, but getting better all the time.
first GPS.........2008-01-08
this is my first GPS unit and im very happy with what it does.i bought this for my girlfriend for a xmas present.and am very happy with how quickly u camn get top grips with it as its a very easy unit to use..and the tom tom home software will update all the maps and P.O.I on ur unit.only thing i found is it could use a better window holder as it drops off far to easyly for me.also id suggest buyying a carry case or a hardcase as ive got.as its not soemthign u want to drop!!
the good points have all been talked bout by others on this page all i can say is go 4 it i did a lot of looking round and this was best price at time(xmas07) a very good system and easy to use.the bigger screen makes it easy to use and its very clear to read even at night..can uopdate the P.O.I if they arnt inculed in ur area which mine wasnt so added in soem of the local cash points and such and then tomtom will add them to the main map to..all in all a very bery good unit and a very very good price to..buy this ua wont be disapointed at all...
Customer Reviews:
Nice player, shame about the remote.......2008-01-16
This player has all the features you will need, including upscaling to 720p or 1080i, and a USB port to plug in a memory stick to play music or view photos (couldn't get it to recognise my Zen Stone though).
The only problem with it is the cheap looking remote. The buttons are hard to press because they move about a bit, and the range is not particularly great.
The only other player I considered for the same price and spec was the Toshiba SD370E but if you read the reviews you'll see that some people have had problems with it freezing. The Philips has had no problems at all.
If you can cope with a cheap remote, the player itself is well worth the money.
Super player for a fab low price!.......2008-01-12
Technically, this DVD player is great for basic use. After selecting to Multi-region as instructed by an earlier reviewer, other simple adjustments are needed. A reviewer noted the juddering of the picture and lip sync; The correct TV system must be selected, basically the multi-system, the DVD player will automatically detect PAL or NTSC. I found that an NTSC disc will only judder in PAL mode notabaly during fast subject movements in the picture like a car chase. All my DVDs play smoothly and have no lip sync problems.
Other features included are: A wide range of sound modes, zoom in and out, brightness, contrast and colour controls as well as various tone settings.
Unlike some DVD players as soon as you put a DVD in the tray it starts up to play within seconds.
A super player for a low cost.
Not as good as first thought.......2008-01-10
I bought this player about two months ago, don't get me wrong its ok for the price and there are some good features, however there are some bad ones as well which you will only find out in time. The good points are it has a usb port so you download a movie or whatever onto a flash drive or a hard drive with its own power supply under 32gig and it plays ok and saves writing to DVD rewritable disks all the time. The bad points are it cannot handle anything with quick movement such as rain, snow, someone splashing about in water etc, it will start juddering. I have never yet watched a movie or TV series without it being out of sync, it does go in again but slowly the sync goes again and no matter if you change the lip sync in the setup it stays the same.
Its ok for the price but its certainly not perfect and I wish I had bought something else even at the cheap price its not worth it if you cannot watch a movie properly. I have also downloaded the upgrades/firmware for it but I can't see any difference.
Does what is says it'll do.......2008-01-05
Order Process:
I purchased this from Amazon on the 28th December at 1pm with guaranteed next delivery. The DVD player and HDMI lead (LINX HDMI Cable) arrived before 9am on the 29th December. Totally impressed with Amazon's service.
Why the Philips DVP5960:
* wanted a cheap upscaling DVD player so I could use one of my spare HDMI sockets I've got on my LCD
* matched and synced with my Philips TV (one remote and all that)
* supports DivX
So I thought the Philips DVP5960 was the answer until HD DVD players come down in price. And for £42.99 you can't really go wrong until then.
Hooked up to TV and Amplifier:
Picture Quality
After playing around with the settings you can see the difference here and there. I noticed it much more on people's faces.
Sound Quality
Connected the DVD player up to my amp through the coaxial plug. Have watched Transformers and Bourne Ultimatum so far and the sound is awesome!
Not sure If I'm going to miss out on DTS but then most, if not all, my DVD's are Dolby Digital. Either way the sound is amazing and much improved compared to my old Sony DVD player.
Multi Region
Changing the settings on the DVD player couldn't be easier. Just follow the instructions that people have supplied.
DivX
Plugged in my iPod, selected a film. Nothing more to it. Simple!
Overall, very impressed. Only snag is the remote. It isn't as responsive as my old DVD player.
Upscaling not too good to my Samsung 40" E40N87bdx .......2008-01-02
Firstly, I read all of these reviews and was generally impressed by the info provided - this DVD player sounded a good deal. However, I can't seem to see much difference between the Philips 5960 via an HDMI lead to my TV and my old JVC DVD player via a scart lead! Considering the HMDI lead cost me £50 (yep, probably ripped off there, although promised it's a very good one from the keener trainee in Richer Sounds), I invested more in the lead than the DVD.
One reviewer mentioned that my TV will upscale as it's 1080P model. Does this mean that I won't notice much difference between my old regular DVD player and the 1080p Philips version?

service useless.......2007-03-29
I also was sold a useless charger for my Tom Tom one. They should make it clear that this charger is not for this model.Another £10.00 lost. It's too much trouble and hassle to send back.I also received the free camera
offer but the softare won't install telling me it's not suitable for my unit!! Trying to contact Tom Tom is a complete waste of time. The product is fine, the after sales service is useless.
Useful little device.......2007-03-28
I've had the TomTom One for just over a year now, and am pleased with it.
Haven't bothered connecting it with my mobile phone for traffic alerts, though I did add the speed camera feature from pocketgpsworld.co.uk (though I think they charge for up-to-date camera information).
The device takes a little while to find the GPS signal when you turn it on, usually 30-45 seconds, but it's not usually a problem.
As with any GPS device, it won't always choose the best route, but it will get you where you want to go, and usually within a resonable timeframe. The maps are also a little out of date.
The only things I don't like are the battery life - keep the incar charger handy in your car; and the fact that it just randomly dies sometimes, and requires the reset button to be pressed (which doesn't appear to cause anything to actually get lost, so it's safe to use).
The points of interest could also do with some improvement. Good for most things, though it never seems to find beaches, but useful when it works and has what you're looking for.
Also got the US maps and have used this device in Florida and Atlanta, where it was a great help.
Overall though, I'm happy with it and would recommend it.
Tom Tom Home.......2007-03-17
Having purchased a Tom Tom one from Amazon, which was supplied on time as they said it would be.
I loaded the CD as supplied into my computer, this is supposed to enable you to download Safety camera locations (For a subscription) also any voices you should choose!
Suffice to say they have charged me twice for my Safety Camera updates,I have been unable to download those and "John Cleese " for my instructions.
Every time I try to connect to "Tom Tom Home" via the computer it informs me there is a problem and to try later!
I have recieved an E-mail ,which informs me that there are is additional safety camera information available ,all I have to do is follow the simple instructions supplied, which to be honest are so user unfriendly as to be next door to useless.
There is a "Bluetooth" facility for updating the Tom Tom ,having been informed by e-mail there are updates to be had ,tried to update using "BlueTooth".Having aligned my Tom Tom to my phone when I first purchased it, I was informed that it was not aligned when I went to use it ,went through all the nausia of aligning them again, was informed all was set to do what ever was required.Went to download the safety camera sites by "Bluetooth" only to be told there are no updates to be had!
All in all ,I'm not impressed with this so called update service ,to be charged £25 (Twice) for Safety Camera updates ,plus what every my chosen voice was and then being unable to get them !
Great SatNav at Great Price! .......2007-01-08
10 days ago I was lucky enough to buy a Tom Tom One from Amazon at £149,99 especially as this has now increased by £50.00! So far, this Tom Tom has impressed me with both its sensitivity (even inside) accuracy and features although its disappointing that it won't connect via Bluetooth to my Blackberry 7100 which is rather annoying especially as I had signed up for both speed camera and traffic reports! However, this is a great SatNav especially if you can get it at the previous discounted price.
Excellent GPS Product.......2006-10-17
A good quality product. Have had it for about three months now and it hasn't let me down.
It's got a very strong signal, it gets a signal with in a matter of seconds. Just turn it on and by the time you have entered the destination address you're going to, the TomTom One would have found a signal.
It has a very clear screen and easy to use menu system. You have a selection of languages to choose from and you can set different colour schemes for days and nights. Some other features are a compass, voice controll, automatic re-routing, avoiding parts of a route and many more.
However, I do have one minor ver minor problem with it, it doesn't have Supermarkets in its Points of Interests! But thats nothing really, I would recommend this to anyone.
Customer Reviews:
This sounds great!!.......2008-01-18
Nice sounding little thing. Very clear, and detailed sound. This system has got to be the best unit I have ever bought at this price; I have never listened to something so good from just a small compact component. Outstanding system, the sound quality is fab. It does not produce boomy and distort sound like those cheap hi street systems. After taking it out of it's box, I thought it looked very nice and was very impressed with packaging. Great value for the price.
Athena iVoice- Incredible Value.......2008-01-18
I ordered this product on Thursday afternoon last and received it first thing Friday morning - Thanks for the prompt service Amazon!
I am really impressed by the product quality as must admit I took a bit of a chance mostly based on the pricing!
I originally was looking for something to play music in my study as I work from home but have ordered another unit for the kitchen as
It's the first time I feel I'm getting my moneys worth from my iPod as I don't get a lot of time in my day to listen to music with headphones.
The iVoice is incredibly simple to use, the remote seems to work from huge distances around the house and the sound quality is really amazing (and goes up incredibly loud J)
My husband who is a total gadget nut googled Athena and they are owned by Klipsch who are a major US Hifi Company so that explains the quality I suppose.
Anyway am really glad I followed my instincts and look forward to many hours of happy listening ahead, am really chuffed with my Bargain, thanks again Amazon!!
Perfect Gift.......2008-01-16
I would like to thank the gentlemen who wrote the previous review. My husband is fanatical about music and sound and I bought him a set of the speakers. Know he has just not stopped talking about them to his mates and even me. I would not normally write a review but seeing the pleasure these speakers have brought him, I felt I owed them 5 mins out of my busy schedule. The perfect gift.
xxxooo
Outstanding.......2008-01-16
I bought one of these to replace a very poor Bose system. After seeing them reveiwed on Ilounge. The first thing that needs to be mentioned about this kit is the sound quality - it is absolutely excellent. My old Bose system which, by comparison, sounded as if it was underwater. These speakers are an incredible bargain. I doubt that for £50 you could do any better than this pair of Athenas. They produce some incredibly believeable sound, before these started to break in - they sounded dull, however after about a week, they really started to open up, and they just keep sounding better and better. I've got no complaints about these speakers, I'd have to say that these speakers could easily rival speakers costing twice as much, maybe a little more, grab a pair - as they're not manufactured anymore to my knowledge - there is nothing that disappoints about these speakers. They have plenty of authority - you can crank these things WAY up - and I even find that I like the sound better when it's a bit louder, they seem to sound better when they're turned up.At the same time they're delicate enough to handle classical music and have a beautiful soundstage and a wonderfully sweet sound! A truly great bargain. I would like to thank Ilounge for reviewing these speakers and recommending with a A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Customer Reviews:
Definately not cheap and nasty.......2008-01-16
First of all I'd like to say thank you Amazon for quick delivery, 4 days before expected. This little piece of kit is without a doubt the best there is. Don't be put off by the price. The old adage 'you only get what you pay for' doesn't hold true here. I'm in my early sixties and not very technically minded but I had this satnav up and running within minutes even without looking at the manual. The menu's are intuitive and easy to use, and in use it updates itself in no time at all. Take a wrong turn or come to road works with detours and it soon has you back on track.
The only downside as I can see is the lack of a mains charger but check your mobile phone charger, that may fit, or look through all those mobile chargers you've accumalated over the years. I did and problem solved.
Why pay £200 when you can get one of these little beauty's for less than £80.
I can't fault it..........2007-12-31
I've been using mine for a week now I really can't pick any faults with it... Quick route mapping and clear, accurate directions.
Faulty batch?.......2007-12-28
Worked for 1 day and then the screen froze and the system would not reset. Sending back to Amazon for a replacement as hopefully it was just a faulty one. If the next is similar then I guess it'll be time for a Tom Tom after all.
Carrera X350.......2007-12-16
I hate driving anywhere that I'm unfamiliar with so decided to take the plunge without spending a fortune. Normally with gizmo's I'm put off by the many pages of instruction manuals but after reading the quick start guide I thought I'd have a go. It took quite a while to acquire the initial signals (more than ten minutes) but I live in a hilly area (Wales!!). Once found it was subsequently much faster.
Tried a couple of simple routes first to test it and couldn't fault it. Very clear voice prompts and accurate maps. Then tried it to get to a place I'd never been to before to pick up my daughter and it was superb and without the hassle of having my wife read the map.
I was put off by the one reviewer referring to a 6 digit postcode search but it now has 7 so no problems there. The menu system is very straightforward and I was soon using it like a pro. The pre-programmed points of interest feature is also excellent.
This is one product that I will not be putting away in a cupboard never to see the light of day. Superb value for money.
Waste of money and effort.......2007-12-15
First one that I got refused to direct me to anywhere in Croydon (OK, maybe that was a good point, but I did actually need to get there) and the next day told me there was no coverage when everyone around me was ok.
Amazon replaced it and that one refused to switch on most of the time - even when fully charged.
Maybe I was just very unlucky......or maybe they are just useless!

Giving you easier guidance and allowing you to focus better on the road aheadBetter listener: speech recognition lets you tell your device where to go, instead of typing it on screenBetter view day and night: light sensor gives automatic brightness controlLatest mapping: preloaded internal memory containing maps of United Kingdom & Ireland provided by TeleAtlas.
Easy voice address input
Speech Recognition: - Speaking an address, to tell your device where to take you, is much easier than typing. TomTom GO 520 understands the pronunciation of city and street names.
You can also answer questions while driving, so you can keep your eyes on the road with the combination of text-to-speech and speech recognition technology. For example:
Your GO 520 asks:
"Traffic delay now 12 minutes; shall I try to optimize?"
"A new text message was received; shall I read it aloud?"
and you just reply "Yes" or "No"

Likes:
* FM transmitter for the mp3 player and route comments
* Spoken street names
* Looks nice
Dislikes:
* The unit will not stay on the window
* Map corrections don't appear on the unit after updates
* After the first online update the unit stopped working until I put the backup back on.
* Customer services don't answer emails.
* Some strange routes chosen taking me off a main road and then back on for no reason.
* Cant play mp3s from the SD card it must be in the MP3 folder on the unit.
* I still haven't got the hang of putting the unit on the mount.
* Dose not seam to be very accurate at telling you when I have arrived, sometimes not even close to the destination.
* The Voucher code in the box was already out of date/not valid.
* The bluetooth hands free does not work with my HTC XDA Exec.
I hope my opinions are of use.
Great, when the software is up to date..........2007-12-11
I chose this product primarily due to the faultless version of Tom Tom software which I used on my HTC PDA. Unfortunately, the mapping software seems to have taken a step backwards, as two major destinations I've wanted to navigate to in the first two weeks of use have not been covered. One was The Bath Spa Hotel in Bath, one of the country's premier hotels and near the centre of town. The software could not find the postcode or the road (Sydney Road, Bath), despite it being in existence for hundreds of years!
It's a shame as this unit is well featured and very intuitive to use, it's just the mapping information which has so far let it down in my case.
Save Your Money, Buy Something Else.......2007-12-07
I bought one of these for the new features like mapshare and voice recognition.
However bluetooth on my unit like many others is useless with person you are calling only hearing a buzzing noise.
At first TomTom admitted the problem and said an upgrade would fix. Now, two months later they will exchange for repair but long delays due to no units that actually work properly.
Mapshare
Nice idea but only certain changes appear instantly on your device.
Only
Block/Unblock Street
Reverse Traffic Direction
Change Street Names
Missing POI
Changed POI
Are claimed to work and no POI corrections I have ever made have appeared.
So Round-abouts, No Left Turns, No Right Turns only appear some time in the future or maybe when you buy a map upgrade. Yes you still have to buy maps every year to keep map share working.
Also dash mount has no power or data connection so you have to plug these into the base of the unit.
Cool..... but!.......2007-12-03
Found this new tomtom really cool, has some great features and much improved on my last tom tom - however.....
I find the suction pad is rubbish - its constantly falling off my windscreen - Ive tried everything to get it to stick but I just dont find it very good - never had any trouble sticking my old one so I know its not a windscreen problem ... :O(
Excellent.......2007-11-19
Just back from a 1000 mile round trip and "Tom" behaved impeccably. The thing I like about it rather than the Navman is that if I ignore it's directions instead of telling me to do U-turns for the next 5 minutes it just quietly plots a new route.
I have inserted a 2Gb SD card full of MP3s and being able to listen to my music and the navigation instructions at the same time via FM is a great feature.
Hands free calling worked fine with my Nokia E65, though text messaging didn't, but the phone is not officially supported.
The mapping is still out of date, no matter what the fan boy with the top review said - there is a bridge in Glasgow that opened to traffic a year ago that doesn't even exist on the map, and a road that closed to vehicular traffic in Wyre Piddle within the last year that still shows ( as does the now defunct petrol station next to it ). But don't worry - I corrected these errors using mapshare so hopefully the missing bridge will be added soon (unlike what was said by the other reviewer missing roads don't appear until added by TomTom/TeleAtlas, but closures and speed limit changes appear immediately) and the road is now closed on the map.
To clear up one very important point - there is no where / no way you can tap the screen, drive the road and it appears on your map - you get to mark the location of an error, then change it when you get home. You then submit this to TomTom who submit it to TeleAtlas, who eventually will correct the mapping. There is a lot of misconception floating around about this feature!
I've made literally dozens of corrections, and hopefully others are doing the same. Then eventually it might get reasonably up-to-date.
The unit is easy to use, clear to read and altogether a marriage saver for me :-)
