Very happy.......2007-04-01
I tried these with a cheap mp3 player and they were terrible, the volume had to be way up to hear them ok, no base and just awful sound. Then I tried them with a Sandisk Sansa and they rock! You only need the volume to be less than half way, full awesome base, rich dynamic sound.
If anyone is disappointed with these earphones, maybe your player don't match , the Sansa range definately match and its so awesome!!
Good quality with excellant sound........2006-09-15
I had no problem fitting the ear buds, which are comfortable for long periods of use, when properly inserted.
Good lanyard design with quick release.
Excellent full bodied bass, good mid range, crisp treble, and good separation.
A stylish accessory with the matching white Creative Zen Nano Plus MP3 Player.
Ok so I don't own this actual pair of headphones..........2006-09-02
...however I do own a very similar pair (the EP-630) and I have to say that they are excellent, and as this pair is basically the same I feel qualified to review them and point out that the previous reviewer, as daft as it sounds, probably hasn't put the ear phones in properly! Its easy to do if you don't know how to, these earphones go right into your ear (like earplugs do) so that any exterior sound is muffled (and kinna sounds like you are underwater). Once the earphones are in properly the difference in sound quality is astonishing! The best method of putting in the earphones is (as many others have commented) by pushing the earphone in as far as it will go then pulling the top of your earlobe up and then pushing the earphone in a little further, this should mean that you get a tight seal, its a bit of an odd sensation but you get used to it, additionally selecting the correct size of ear bud is essential to a comfortable fit and a good seal.
Dreadful sound.......2006-08-25
These are awful. The sound is tinny and reminds me of the earpiece you would use for a cheap transistor radio of the seventies. We have a few differnt earphones for various Mp3 players (including an excellent Creative Zen and a couple of real cheapies and the headphones they come with) but these are definitily the worst. I would love to return them but I can't because I think they don't have a fault, (unless I've got a real dud pair and they are meant to sound good). Absolutely no depth to the sound at all. They are like something from a kids lucky bag... or unlucky bag. Don't buy them, they are rubbish.

Plenty of oomph.......2008-01-12
One reviewer said about these earphones "ok if you just like music with a lot of bass" - they are called Extended Bass and are specifically for people who like bass - those who don't have the option of the regular pro version of these earphones which are more balanced - just thought i'd mention it.
I have found no distortion whatsoever and my range of musical taste is very wide (Classical, Electronic, Hip Hop, Dance, Acoustic). I was unsure about buying these because i was worried that the bass would be too overpowering but i couldn't have been more wrong. The bass is certainly strong but it doesn't overpower everything else - if the bass isn't there to begin with it doesn't just add it so listening to acoustic for example sounds absolutely fine. Live recordings sound out of this world!
My biggest complaint about my iPod has been the lousy volume limit, far too quiet with my sony earphones and people kept saying to me "you shouldn't need it that loud bla bla bla" but the point was, it wasn't that loud - hence the problem! No problem with these earphones, i've gone from having to have my ipod on full to having it on less than half - the difference they make to the sound level is unbelievable. The quality of the bass is superb too, no cheap rattly booming at all, it sounds like your head is sandwiched between a set of hifi speakers. I can't get over how powerful they are.
They are also very well built and i like the fact that for £10 you can completely replace the cables when they start to become a bit worn. Fitting them was easy enough but you must make sure you get a proper seal to get the full benefit of how these sound. Madonna and U2 use this brand so they must be doing something right.
Highly recommended and these are an ideal set of phones for the new EU volume limited iPods as they really give your iPod some oomph! I switch my iPod EQ to 'Jazz' or 'classical' when i want more treble - that combined with the bass makes them sound outstanding.
someone turned on the sub woofer!!!!.......2006-12-15
Well my title says it all really. Ive used a number of inear phones for my ipod over the last couple of years and havnt yet been able to find those which provide the full bass i require for the trance, dance, techno music that i listen too.
The sound on these earphones can only be described as amazing, totally blows away shure e2c, sony ex71. The earphones initially look kind of large but once there in your ears they are okay with nice thick cable that can be detached and replaced. Build quality is great as are the accessories you get including the variety of buds to get the best fit, the bendy cable which goes over your ears keeps the earphones inplace and feels more secure.
The sound for me is very balanced, a nice deep thus bass, low mids and enough highs to hear the shreeks and cymbals. If there was a down side it could be that the cable is a bit too thick and is permanently kinked so a tip would be not to wind the cable up too tightly and put them into the box you get supplied with them.
Earphones are very easy to fit....what more can i say but i would definitely recommend a pair even though you pay around £100 they are well worth it
not worth the money.......2006-03-28
These may be ok if you just listen to music with a lot of bass. If you listen to music with a high frequency give these a miss. If you listen to some classical, especially choral, these earphones distort and rattle like cheap hi-fi speakers.

It's all in the earphones..........2007-12-12
I recently invested in a Sony MP3 player. The reviews had talked about the sparkling sound, even in relation to the ipod, but I was left disappointed. I ditched the headphones it came with and switched to a pair of Sony MDR in-ear headphones. Still disappointed by the thin sound. Then I tried these. They are a lot of money for a set of earbuds (but by no means the most expensive). Wow! A full, round sound, natural across the frequencies, depth, clarity and detail. These have transformed my listening experience on the go and I cannot praise them highly enough.

Great headphones.......2007-10-31
I've just purchased a pair of UE super.fi 5 pros to replace a broken and much loved pair of Shure E3Cs.
I picked the UE's because of great reviews and the fact that they were cheaper than the SE310s and have two drivers rather than the Shure's one.
My experience of the UE's after a week or so is that the bass is truly great - a huge step up from the Shure E3Cs. Consequently the overall sound is warmer and fuller. However I do feel that they lack the fineness of detail at the mid and top end that the Shure's delivered.
So far I think i'll get to love them at least as much as the E3Cs (which i had for over 3 years). I also think they will last for longer - they are more solidly put together, the replaceable chord is great and the packaging incredibly solid. In contrast I had replacement E3cs three times in three years due to the earphones cracking.
Etymotic 6i versus Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro.......2007-09-28
I'm fussy when it comes to audio and prepared to pay to get improved quality but there is a greatly diminishing return when it comes to price.
I owned a pair of Etymotic 6i headphones for over two years (£70) which I found excellent at blocking external noise (I commute via an old & noisy train with screaming school kids). The 6i sound reproduction was even, giving crisp / fresh high notes; but they did lack bass (my favourite ear tips were the foam).
The Ultimate Ears (UEs) are broadly similar in design yet deliver three noticeable differences versus the 6i. The UEs are not discreet, the phones are angled to 'fire' the noise better (apparently) and generally have bigger drivers in the ends which makes them stick out a bit.
This comes on to my second point, the bigger drives make a great deal of difference to the quality of the bass; the 6i do not sound as rich as the UEs and the bass is simply incredible - it puts uber expensive hi-fi speakers to shame. Conversely the delicate highs are not lost in the UEs but I'd say in my subjective opinion and by a *very small margin* the 6i were better performers at this audio range.
I found the 6i sensitive to the output volume levels on the listening device but the UEs are twice as sensitive again. I'm operating at less than a quarter of the volume these days - you have to be so careful to turn the volume down before plugging in. The UE "user guide" goes so far to have a diagram of how a volume knob looks when it is set to low! (p13)
Overall the UEs do have it over the 6i but if you not so fussed about your bass (I'm guessing that's the minority of listeners) then spare the cash and go for the 6i. (There are also UE 5 Pro with extended bass but I simply can't imagine getting on with it, these UEs seem to be ample).
The Sound Level Attenuator is a great inclusion for in-flight entertainment use (I've experienced a painful transatlantic mishap with the 6i a week after use when a mic-happy pilot kept interrupting).
Amazing sound quality.......2007-03-06
When i read the reviews on this and other sites i was at first extremely sceptical. i didnt believe that a set of headphones would make that much difference to my music. I have to say now that i own a pair i am truly converted. the sound is crisper, clearer. unfortunately for me the music now sounds better through my headphones than my hi-fi speakers. These headphones are worth every penny i paid for them.
continually amazed.......2006-12-17
I spent a long time reading reviews initially i was sold on the shure e3c but was a liitle concerned about bass content so looked into e4c seemed a better buy for the more bass hungry listener.
i came across the ultimate ears 5 pro during my reading did not know anything about them so more reading and i started to like what i was reading, 2 drivers per phone, bass plentifull sounded just like what i was after i like my bass but also my clarity without being too harsh.
I have been into home cinema and hifi for many years i run 2 rel subs in my set up i have owned many headphones in my time but these pro5 have absolutely blown my mind i cannot believe how good they are.
music i know extreamly well is being brought to life with new realism and content i find the fit good with the small ends they isolate me from surrounding noise better than my noise canceling headphones that i also own and use i cannot praise them enough they are worth every penny.

ultimate ears pro 5.......2007-11-13
I have looked at lots of reviews about in ear headphones and deliberated along time when it came time for me to buy a new pair. I previously had shure Ec2's and i thought they were great, BUT compared to these they are lacking in many areas. UE pro 5's are simply awesome the rattle your eye balls ( no exageration!!) the bass response is clear, deep and punchy. The mids and highs are crisp and bright. Put it all together and you have a fantastic pair of head phones. I know they aren't cheap BUT for that little bit extra the difference is vast. I look forward to finishing work everyday just to put these in my ears, they are that good honestly!!
Excellent earphones, but maybe not to everyone's taste.......2007-09-04
I've owned these earphones for a week now and, while I was initially unimpressed, they've now been 'run in' a bit and they're every bit as good as I expected.
My previous earphones were a pair of Shure E2Cs, and the UEs technically blow them out of the water. The sound they produce has a distinctly warm presentation, with the highs and vocals sounding a little less harsh than other phones. The bass is powerful and taught, if perhaps a little overpowering at times. Nothing you can't fix with EQ settings.
Having said all that, I can't help missing the more 'clinical' sound of my old Shures. These sound a lot warmer and possibly a little artificial in tone. If you're a fan of the Shure sound then maybe it's better sticking with the brand.
Fit and comfort is top notch for my ears, but not everyone's a fan of in-ear 'canalphones' (as UE's marketing calls them) and they simply don't fit in some people's ears. The myriad selection of included earpieces mean there's a comfortable option for nearly anyone. The cable is also stiffer where it exits the earpieces, so the wire can be moulded around the back of your ears to hold the earpiece in. This is a fantastic idea that works very well.
I've heard some reports of the flimsy cable failing, and I can understand this since the cable is oddly thinner than my Shures. However, I'm yet to experience any problems, fingers crossed.
All in all, top marks!
Unbelievably Good! Far superior to the Shure EC4's.......2007-04-29
These are absolutely stunning earphones - I also have the Shure E4C's and these blow them away.
The fit is superb - really comfy and not difficult to get a seal - plus - unlike the Shure's they don't feel so much like ear-plugs - although they DO block out external noise in the same way.
The bass is wonderfully full, thick and deep - the highs smooth and clear without ever being harsh (Shures = harsh & tinny in comparison). The soundstage is wide, 3 dimensional - excellent separation. You can just turn off your iPod's EQ with these - there's just no need to boost or cut anything - they just sound so natural and gorgeous.
Prepare for goosebumps!
Worth every penny as they'll bring your music to life!.......2007-04-18
These are seriously good headphones for anyone who is fussy about sound and I am very fussy. I bought these after reading tons of rave reviews and have to say, that for me, they live up to all the hype. I listen mainly to acoustic, classical, folk, and some rock - and while I don't know the technical details of 'mids' and 'highs' and 'muddy bottoms' (!) - I do know that they sound phenomenal, and don't know how to describe it, other than to say the sound feels as if it's 'wrapped' in a thin layer of honey.
A few people said they sounded too 'warm' - but actually I find the warmth very seductive on the ears and you can always use the EQ to adjust if necessary. I use them with a flat EQ setting and the bass reduced slightly which is just perfect. If you like your music clean and clinical - these are probably the wrong choice as they really do have a rich sound that some people might not like. As I said, you can EQ to get the perfect setting. At first I wasn't sure I liked the warmth and felt I wanted the blanket lifted - but after a few hours I was addicted.
I tried the Shure E3 and honestly, it's like comparing Netto to Harrods, or the Elephant Man to Brad Pitt, seriously! I'm using them with a Sony NW-S706 and the volume used to be set at around 18 out of 30 - now it's down to 10. The dual drivers must be responsible for the great sound, as I can hear everything so clearly. The music is not 'in your head' but slightly more open which feels more natural. Live concerts bring them to life - and you can 'hear' the person clapping 'next' to you, it's that vivid.
I'm no audiophile by any means, but I'd rather listen to no music than listen to compromised sound. These offer the best sound I've ever heard and I can't imagine being without them. Expensive, yes - but you won't be replacing them for a long long time.
I like the sturdy cable and the memory wire, it really helps to keep them secure and I've never felt they were going to fall out. To make sure you have the best seal possible - try all the tips, and with each tip in - wiggle them around until the full sound kicks in - the correct fitting will be when you wiggle them - and the sound doesn't change.
Buy them - they're an investment you'll want to use every day.
BUY THESE NOW!.......2006-10-25
If you have got as far as reading this review then just go ahead and buy them. These are the best headphones I have ever had and the sound quality is simply superb! The only downside is you will have to re-listen to eveything you own because everything sounds amazing through these!

Ultimate Ears Super.Fi - Universal Fit Earphones - 5 Pro Extended Bass - Black.......2007-12-29
I have had these earphones for a couple of months now and i am amazed by the quality of them, the sound and the build quality. I had been using the original earphones that came with my Ipod and they were rubbish. So i spent a longtime looking around for a decent set of earphones. When these were delivered they took a while to get the perfect fit, but got there in the end. All i can say these are amazing well worth spending the extra cash.
awesome sound, dodgy wire, even worse support service.......2007-08-08
Ive had these earphones for over a year now and i will say these are the best earphones ive used to listen to music with, no matter what genre of music you listen to, its the best for it; 5 out 5 for sound.
What really lets down these earphones is the wire! its not only poorly made but its too short aswell, and for the money that you pay for them you would expect a seriously better quality of wire! after 2months of use slits started to appear and the slightest of tugs on the input jack would ruin the sound quality and the jack itself! 0 out 5 for the wire
and the last let down of this product is the support service! because the problems that i had with these earphones was covered by the 2 year guarantee, they said they would replace it but they never did and never got back to me to let me know what was going on. so im still listenin with them but only through one earpiece because the other one doesnt work because of the dodgy wire and jack!
-1 out 5 for support service
so if your gonna buy this take real care of it! i mean take REAL care of it! the sound quality is worth the purchase its just the rest of it thats the problem!!!
''Awesom''.......2007-07-18
In the search of real quality headphone sound I have spent a lot of cash. If only I had found these sooner!! The search ended the day these arrived. It's difficult to describe the difference in quality to anything else I've tried because the gap is so huge. I've spent £70.00 on Sony, a total of £140 on Sennheiser (two sets) but none come close to the detail these offer.
The base is outstanding in quality and quantity but not so much that it overshadows the mid-ranges and really sweet top end. I hear things on my Zen now that I've never even heard before. Also note that they are the most comfortable earphones I've ever worn. If you like your music highly detailed across the range but with a warm soundstage and you have the cash, treat your ears to these babies!!!! As they say on the box ''It's like hearing your music for the first time''
The Search Is Over........!.......2007-05-18
I have owned Sony, Shure, Bose and lately some Sennheizer head phones for for use with my ipod, these Ultimate Ears are the most expensive phones ive ever bought. The comfort is way better than anything else, as long as you READ THE MANUAL it tells you quite clearly how to fit them. They are so comfortable, I almost forget I am wearing them. The sound really is a world away from ANY sub £80 sets, I have tried them all. Given the cost, I had huge hopes for these, and im not disappointed in any way. Spend the extra, it really is worth it.
my search is over!.......2007-03-26
I owned a pair of Shure e3c's for a couple of years, until the left channel earphone started dying, when it was just out of warranty! Since it had been a couple of years since I'd had a good look at canal phones I decided to shop around and see what was available. I liked the Shure's once I had got used to them, but the tinny bass had always got on my nerves a little.
I tried the Bose in-ear, which had great sound but no isolation, then I after some research I finally decided to opt for some of these (although I got them for 99 notes somewhere else) When they turned up i was a little put off by the actual size of the earphones, and how much they could potentially stick out. I shouldn't have worried however, as I got a great fit almost straight away, found them incredibly confortable and...hang on...yes there was BASS and plenty of it! The other thing I like about these is the replaceable cables, so in a couple of years time when i have destroyed the left hand channel again i can just spend 15 quid on a new cable. Yes they are expensive, but they are built to last and the quality is definitely the best I've ever had from canal phones...my search is over!

Simply The Best.......2008-01-15
If you are looking for the ultimate earphones look no further the sound that these plugs produce is amazing, but beware they are so sound efficient I am sure they could damage your hearing. Once you get used to them they are very comfortable It took me about three weeks to find the best plug size for my ears to get the best sound but do persevere as its worth the wait . They also make custom fit earphones for about ten times the price of these babies I am sure the sound they produce is quite simply incredible go on buy a pair you wont regret it.
well I like them.......2008-01-08
truely the best set of headphones i have ever bought. (also the most expensive - but worth it)
"the cable is thick" people say. just what i wanted. all my old headphones cable snapped and started to crackle while i was walking
"the headphones keep falling out" they come with like 4 different sized buds. its ur ears!
and the headphone jack is a neat subtle "L" shape so does not take wear and tare in your pocket (which the ipod style jack does)
and the sound quality is great! it also cancells out just about all noise.
once i was walking to uni and a police car drove past. all i saw was the lights. untilli took my headphones out and herd the roaring siren!
FANTASTIC
Good headphones, problematic memory wire.......2007-12-20
I recently purchased a pair of these (the clear model) after quite a lot of research, to replace an aging pair of Sennheiser MX500's. I listen mainly to indie rock. It took a few days to get the right choice of plugs to fit my ears and I tried the various different ways of wearing them (detailed on their website).
However, after using them regularly for one week (wearing in the over-ear style), the memory wire in the right-hand headphone snapped. It's hugely disappointing that they only lasted one week. The headphones were very uncomfortable to wear with the broken wire, so I decided to return them for a refund as I don't feel entirely confident that the same problem won't happen again.
Sound quality was excellent once I had the right fit, especially the mid and treble. I too think the base was just a little light, but this was easily remedied by tweaking the sound settings on my MP3 player. So now my search continues!
A Disappointing Product.......2007-12-15
I listen to my MP3 player during my regular commute to work and have enjoyed the sound-blocking qualities of my Sony Fontopia in-ear headphones for the last couple of years. I recently decided to upgrade to a pair of "proper" in-ear headphones and, after extensive online research, settled on the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3 as the best sub-£100 option. However, my experience with this product has been disappointing for the following reasons:
(a) The earphones are designed so that the wire loops over the back of the ear and enters the ear from the top rather than the bottom. Despite trying all of the various ear-bud sizes included with the earphones, and following the product instructions to the letter, I could not get a comfortable fit.
(b) The earphone wires are very heavy gauge. This means that they easily catch on your clothing, etc. when you turn your head. Look both ways to cross the road and, hey presto, the earphones pop out.
(c) Whilst the sound quality of the earphone drivers is very good, the two issues above mean the earphones themselves do not stay in your ears for very long, and the superior sound quality amounts to nothing.
I was genuinely surprised with the problems I had with this product. I'd assumed that because these earphones were designed for rock-stars jumping around stage, they would easily cope with my 40 min train-ride to work, but sadly they did not.
On the positive side, the compressible foam earbuds supplied with the Ultimate Ears cancel out background noise really well PLUS they also fit on my old Sony earphones - so I'll be wearing these from now on. However, if I was smart, I would have saved myself £60 and bought these separately.
Good.......2007-10-06
I bought these after returning Etymotics that I found painfully uncomfortable. The ultimate ears are comfortable, but not quite as isolating as the Etymotics. Bass is not thunderous, but I'm satisfied with them for classical music.
