I originally got these speakers to run from my PS3, then moved them onto my PC. While they did the job, I couldn't help that some of the midtones were being lost that I could hear through my original speakers - and since they were factory LCD-attached speakers thats a pretty bad sign.
After a while I decided to switch the speakers on my PC (Logitech Z-4's) with the ones on my PS3. Unfortunately, it wasn't just my bad ear that thought the midtones weren't coming throgh well. The Z-4s just blew away the JBLs. I even attached them to my PC later and the sound isn't even half as good as the Loggies.
Long story short - if you're willing to spend this much on a set of stylish, comtemporary-looking 2.1 speakers, get the Logitech Z-4's. The sound quality will blow you away if you think the JBLs are good.

Hello, I bought these yesterday. They are brilliant for the price, although I agree the satellites are a tiny bit tinny. For anyone who thinks they're a bit quiet, the volume controls on the right satellite should sort that out ha ha, my asbo's in the post. PS I wanted to put 4.5 stars.

Being a Music Tech student I like to think I know a thing or two about audio. But also being a student I do not have the funds to buy top of the range speaker/monitor systems for my home studio. Enter the Harman JBL creature II speakers for around £60. ABSOLUTLEY BRILLIANT!!!
I do use the harman soundsticks at university, which are the next step up from these, so knew the quality of harman products.....but even I was shocked at the sounds that came out of these when I played some music for the first time. Once you find the right position for the bass and treble knobs for the track you are playing the clarity is amazing. You can literally hear each individual instrument in the track, the sounds are not muddied together. For those that want great sound for listening to music, watching movies, and playing games these truly are the best speakers out there in this affordable price range.

Excellent quality sound. Very crisp and clear. However, I can't quite understand why the switch has been placed at the back of the subwoofa. This means the subwoofa can't be place on the floor unless you really want to keep going under your desk to switch it on. Otherwise, excellent.

First Impressions - AMAZING!.......2007-12-14
I just orderd these speakers as a present for christmas, they came today and i decided to give them a test before putting them away to be wrapped up.
Initally on opening i realised the satellite speakers are ALOT!! smaller than expected. This worried me as i thought there volume performance would not be great. I plugged them in and tested them out on my ipod, turned the sound up and played 'faithless - insomnia'.
To my delight they were loud enough to fill the room with excess, and i dont even think they were at full volume!! The sound quality was outstanding too, for any type of speakers, especially this small set!
After switching them off with a grin on mine and my girlfriends face, all she just said was 'it sounds like we were in a proper club'! haha, i cant wait to open them on xmas day and fine tune them!
As i only had 1min literally to play about with them im not sure how they will play my rock indie and drum&bass tracks.. but i am looking forward to it now!!
I am on a gap year going to uni next year and these will certainly do me justice at uni - a small, cheap, good quality set of speakers! I am fussy with all electronic things, i have to make sure everything i buy suits me otherwise it goes! Itll go well with my acer aspire 5920 laptop.
Just dont be put off by the size of the satellites!
Overall: Good quality sound, good looking, small with no clutter!, Good volume and dont be put off by the small satellites! There loud!

I wanted a stylish set of speakers that I could plug into both my laptop and my desktop PC, I wasn't looking for 5.1 surround or anything, so I chose the JBL Creature 2s on recommendation from a friend.
The sound quality is just fine, not exactly mind blowing, but it does the job and it does it well. A little fiddling is of course required and afterwards the sound quality is much better.
I'd recommend these speakers to anyone ONLY if they want a stylish speaker set. There are speakers out there for much less money that sound just as good.
the sound of music.......2007-05-18
i plugged these straight into my pc after buying them and after blasting out some music and fiddling around with the bass and treble a bit to much, i thought that the speakers were reasonable but not sensational, certainly not worth what i paid for them on here
HOWEVER...
after my initial disappointment i used my initiative and found the buttons to turn the sound up or down. once they were at their max, the sound was excellant crystal clear and no distortion whatsoever.
of course once you have the added fact that they look simply beautiful, they are exquisite speakers to go with anything, their nice and compact, and of course perfect sound, they look especially nice next to an xbox 360 or the white samsung 23" tv.

I bought the system to accompany my new Dell computer because i was told that they were fantastic by a friend. Having used them for about 2 months i must admit im not disappointed at all with my purchase. The sound quality and bass is very very good given the size of the system. I would definately recommend them to anyone looking to purchase 2.1 speakers to use with their comp or their ipod. The red colour in the jbl speakers is actually much nicer than the variations even though its cheaper! perhaps worth some consideration...

i would of given these speakers 5* if they only had a HEAD PHONE JACK SOCKET.
Other than missing the socket these speakers i would defo recommend to anyone who loves a bit of bass and there music!! they look stylish where ever you put them and what ever music player you choose to use with them.

It's like Christmas has come early.
I orderd them only yesterday and they arrived this morning at 8.30 all shiny and new.
Took me about five minutes to unpack and plug into my Mac.

I have to admit, I should have seen this coming when I saw the size of the speakers. The two tweeters are tiny little things, and are paired with a monster of a subwoofer. It all looks quite cool, and the setup was easy.
Actually using them, things become a struggle. The tweeters simply can't push out any mid-range sounds at all, the the subwoofer, well, it's great, but it's there for bass, not mids. The end result is very clear treble, bass that can make your desk rattle, and almost nothing in the middle. Good for some electronic music and dance, but struggles with rock and metal. The worst part is having been using some quite good headphones for my PC up until now, I can hear the missing notes and sounds in my head, and it's driving me batty.
Still, for the cost, these are good for some casual listening and gaming. If you're looking to replace your stereo with a PC and speakers, might want to do what I'm going to be looking into - getting some proper stereo speakers and an amp.
Brillaint Speakers!! Well worth the money!!.......2005-05-08
If you want excellent speakers with style, great sound and just plain 'kick ass' written on them, these are the ones to own. When I first started rooting around for speakers with excellent sound and style, all I was getting was either speakers with great sound but looked awful. Or exactly the opposite, so when I happened to stumble upon these little beauties, I can say that I instantly fell in love with their sleek, laptop-colour matching look. But then I wondered for a moment, 'such sleek, nicely shaped, shiney speakers can't be good in sound also can they? No it'd be too good to be true, they have to have one fault'. And I knew that if they sounded bad, I couldn't get them, no matter how pretty they were.
However after reading reviews and seeing the star rating I decided that these were the speakers for me, luckily managing to get them for £49.00 (now they're £69) for some unknown reason, I think they were on sale at the time ^^;;
But moving on, I received the speakers and to my amazement of the size of the box, the middle peice was bigger than I'd thought, which now sits behind my laptop. The speakers are small, quite and shiney, the colour matches my laptop and room and I love them.
But when plugged into my laptop, finally getting it to work due to my lack of common sense ::laughs:: the sound that blasted out while playing one of my favourite songs was better than I'd hoped. It was clear, crisp, perfect and utterly worth the money I'd paid, even if I'd paid the £69 for them I would have still have kept them, they are simply excellent. Whatever music you play it comes out perfectly, the volume is as loud as heck, especially for myself (for whom blasts the music loud enough to annoy the neighbours below her as she sings to the music). I'm probably never going to crank the music up that loud, but still nice to say in case anyone out there reading wants speakers that'll blow their eardrums, not the loudest obviously, but certainly LOUD for such small speakers.
In conclusion of a long and rambling review these speakers are quite frankly the greatest thing's since sliced bread or whatever you all consider the greatest thing (for me it's not sliced bread LOL.) But if you want loud speakers, sleek and gorgeous design and something to make your sound better on whatever media you use it, buy these, there are none better for this kind of money.
An honest recommendation.......2005-01-12
Having anticipated the arrival of my Creatures II since ordering (simply because I already realised how it would transform my music and movie experiences to a whole new level), I received it this morning with sheer delight. Once set up (very simple, even my grandmother could do it) and had my first listen, it did not let me down AT ALL. It certainly did transform my music experience to a whole new level (yet to try with movies). The speakers have proved to provide astonishing treble and especially bass qualities (for a person who is not a sound expert anyway). Of course, it's not gonna be the best ever sound quality you've ever heard as you're only spending 60 quid on it, there are limitations on this set up (maybe not quite covering the whole frequency of the sounds, but it's not really noticeable to a normal human ear).
Again, as mentioned in other reviews, the design and styling of the Creatures II is awesome. Furthermore is the value of these speakers which really defeats any other competitors with equivalent quality. I also considered getting the Sound Sticks II but price kinda put me off. So unless you have loads of money, the best sound quality you can get under 70 quid is this, I'm pretty sure anyway. All in all, this 2.1 set up has made me very very happy (including my wallet) and I'm sure it would make you (and your wallet) vv happy too!

I wasn't expecting too much from these speakers as I plugged them into my Laptop but I was very surprised at how good they sounded. They work especially well for playing music with beats i.e. house, hip-hop but didn't work so well for classical or blues type music.
All in all though great speakers if you want to add great sound to your laptop or portable device.
