cracking little radio for the price.......2007-12-11
Excellent little DAB radio
This really is a cracking little radio for the price. Many people have grown accustomed to DAB radios costing a hundred pounds and upwards so to see their price coming down recently it's reassuring to see that the quality has stayed as high as it was.
Having moved to an area where FM reception was virtually non existent we decided to supplement our (admittedly very nice but also very expensive) roberts DAB with another couple of DABs for the house. The Pure One is definitely the best of those new radios. The case looks a bit plastic but on the whole it's an unobtrusive piece of kit and just sits there doing its job. It found all the major stations and a whole range of minor stations, certainly far more than we could ever find on FM, and if you still can't find what you want then FM is available.
Some of the features seem a bit silly. For example the preset station is almost as cumbersome as selecting the station without the presets. To select a station without the presets press 'station' and turn the main dial to your station. To use the presets press 'preset' and turn the main dial to your station. But with 20 presets that's as long winded as the non preset method! It has a kitchen timer built in for no readily apparent reason that I can see. It has a sleep timer which is sort of useful I suppose but wouldn't it be a good idea to put in a wake up timer as well? the radio knows the time so would it be so hard to do?It also has the ability should you really want it to be able to update the radio's software, though I can't really see anyone being desparately worried about doing that. If they really wanted to add features then why not pause and rewind? But then again it is a cheap DAB radio.
All in all a cracking little radio for the money. Remarkably good sound quality for a little box, unobtrusive and very usable.
Good reception. poor ergonomics.......2006-08-22
The reception of this radio is truly excellent - I can carry it around the house without the aerial extended, with hardly any reception problems.
Sound quality is good, as is build quality.
Get a chargepak (you need the C6x, the standard one won't fit) - a set of batteries costs £7.50, so it will very soon pay for itself.
My big gripe is with the ergonomics, which I think are poor.
The twenty presets are not really presets at all, as you can't just press one button and go straight to the station you want. Really what the Pure One offers is a favourite stations list and no presets. To find your station, you have to look at the display, scroll through the list until you find the one you want, and then press the select knob. NOT a quick process! The list doesn't even position itself relative to the station you're on - it always starts at position 1. So for example, if you are using preset 9 and want to go to preset 10, you have to scroll though nine stations to get to preset 10.
The daft thing is, this radio has seven buttons that could have been used for proper one-touch presets, and they have been used for other, less frequently used functions, such as the timer (which I never use), and these buttons are not even in any logical order! Get a grip, Pure, and think about how your radios will actually be used!
This is a very good piece of kit, spoiled by a badly designed and irritating user interface.
This is The ONE ! DABble now..........2006-07-05
I have resisted the temptation to buy DAB since I live in an area where it is very difficult to receive FM and television signals, side of a hill and everything. Also put off by the generally over £100 price tags of decent makes - eg PURE which always gets excellent reviews. When I saw the One advertised I went for it - and I am NOT DISAPPOINTED. It picks up a vast number of stations, all the main BBC ones no trouble, in fact I think only three or four stations in this area can't be received. And the FM reception is vastly superior to any other radios in the house.
This is an attractive radio - I actually have the white one, I think the black one looks a bit cheaply plastic, whereas the white is cool - my daughter preferred the pink one. Huge extending aerial seems the reason for the good station pickup. Good sound, with reasonable bass. Although there's only one speaker it picks up stereo and has a stereo headphone jack to plug in your hi-fi if you need it. 20 presets, which you access by pushing the preset button and turning the big dial to choose your favourite - pushing the dial acts like an enter key. You get to choose options for what appears on the display, you can update its software through a USB port (obviously not needed to do this yet) and its even got sleep and wake-up timers on it. A great boys toy...
As I have pointed out, I have never had a DAB radio so can't do a comparison, but the sound and looks are great, its intuitive to use, and the price is a killer for a PURE radio. Excellent. Quibbles? None really, except that if you want to be able to make it portable its looks like the best bet is to buy a chargePAK, which recharges when you plug the radio in the mains and then powers it when you unplug, and they seem expensive to me at thirty quid.
In short - if you've dallied and delayed in dabbling with DAB - this is The ONE - groan...

this DAB radio is just perfectly excellent and i would highly recommend it!
the reception is excellent and clear! it has excelent quality reception and is VERY user friendly and with a back up fm if you should go out of digital range!
people should note and check up via the internet to see if they can recieve DAB radio as parts of the uk do not get digital!
the product is truly wonderful! compact - a fab!!! size and funky colour, the lcd panel display os GREAT and clearly readable! we LOVE it and its the best item we have bought and the pre-set stations are great as there is even a pre-set station for children!!!
i am truly appaled by the other bad feedback i have read regarding intempo DAB radio! as you obviously didnt like the product or you lived in a poor reception area for getting digital radio as this product does NOT dissapoint, its totally fantastic and the sound is totally 110% crisp and its worth every penny! its exciting and fun and so so clear sound! and its the best buy we have made in long time!
GO FOR IT!!!!! AND ENJOY THIS WONDERFUL RADIO - FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!
Poor reception.......2006-10-29
This model was purchased as a back-up to my blind father's Pure Evoke 2, on which the reception is very good. The reception on the Intempo model is asolutely dreadful - we can not not get any DAB stations and only 4 FM stations, so it is little better than worthless.
Poor reception.......2006-06-09
Ihave owned a KT in four different addresses in the Uk and have never been able to pick up a decent reception on digital or FM. My partner owns a Pure Evoke-1 and has always been able to pick up all of the digital channels.
VERY DISAPOINTING!!
Average radio.......2006-01-11
I bought the pink KT01 DAB Radio for our kitchen. Its compact size is perfect for our worktop. I bought this based on 5 star rating in WHICH HIFI? magazine and for its special offer price.
Things I love:
- Blue back lit display screen is bright and clear
- Compact size
- Plenty of information about now playing, coming next etc
- Very easy to use and set up
- Loud volume from such a small unit
- Quick menu operation
- Has FM option as well
What I don't like:
- Slightly crackly (even with full DAB signal)
- No Tone control
- Pink doens't match my kitchen, get a yellow one for a kitchen
- Twin speakers are still mono!
pink dab and fm radio.......2005-09-22
The intempo kt-01 of course is pink but that is not all that is going for it. The dab radio also has a backup fm frequency built in just in case the digital broadcast fails and this is extremely handy. The kt-01 has a built in lcd screen so that on a dab frequency you can tune in to the station by name no more tuning by frequency like 97.3 just turn the tunning dial and see the name of the station you want appear. After you have tuned in the screen will show you is capable of showing you the station name the song you are listening to and occasionly news bullitins. The radio has 8 presets allow you to save your favourite stations. The unit is mains or battery powered ( 6 c size batteries) Although the machine will eat your batteries because of the lcd screen. The machine has a handy clock and alarm with sleep function. This is a great unit and with a not bad weight of 1.6kg this is a very nice pink radio.
