Excellent headphones.......2008-01-11
Buying from Sennheiser you expect quality; however this was better than I expected, even for the cost, which is incredibly good for the overall tone response and sound quality. I own a 600w pa system and these headphones provide a better overall listen than any equipment I own. Oh and finally I have never experience such comfortable headphones!
Great.......2007-09-14
Although I don't claim to be an audiophile these headphones have great sound; a huge improvement over the computer speakers I was using to listen to music on my laptop. They are also very comfortable.
They come with with a screw on 1/4" jack plug which screws off to give you a standard size jack- all gold plated and good quality. The cable is about 2 metres long, thats great if you want to use them for something like a pc or stereo, perhaps not so good if you want them for an mp3 player.
Spectacular.......2007-07-25
I am still absolutely amazed at the sound quality of these headphones in comparison with my overly expencive 2:1 speaker set up for my Gaming pc. The sound quality throughout the entire range is briliant and when partnered with a decent sound card the audio really comes alive. Would recommend these to anybody wanting some decent headphones while being on a budget.
Sennheiser HD465.......2007-06-21
These headphones represent excellent value for money. The frequency range is wide, but if, like me, you are a classical music fan, you might want to decrease the bass control on your amplifier as the overall balance tends to favour the bass frequencies. The sound is slightly recessed but realistic, especially in orchestral recordings. They are also very comfortable!!

These are great full size headphones!.......2007-04-16
Quality construction is clear as you would expect from this leading brand. Sound is excellent and the cable is both flexible and high quality (strong). The surprise was that wearing comfort is so excellent.
The only improvement that could be added would be an in-line volume control.

Extended bass HD485s.......2007-11-23
After my Sennheiser closed EH2200 headphones gave up after many years of playing I decided to get another set, this time open headphones which I had read gave higher sound quality. I paid about the same price as I had done a few years ago for the Sennheiser HD485 headphones which no one said a bad word about in all the reviews I read on the internet. On first playing them something struck me as odd. These new HD485's were sending an enormous amount of bass. As I gradually `burned them in' this huge sub-sonic bass receded to a lower level but not as much as I would have liked. This was a disappointment compared to the well balanced EH2200. Another noticeable trait was a boosted treble response to stop them sounding too dull. I tried equalizing but this (like it always does) made them sound flat and lifeless. So Sennheiser seems to have abandoned audio quality with this set and took to adjusting the sound wave according to marketing criteria. Looking at the amplitude/frequency curve of these headphones compared to an expensive set highlights the obvious: bass/treble amplified much more than a quality set. This makes these headphones sound unnatural, rock music sometimes sounds poor because the mid range gets drowned by the bass. Extra bass and treble will also introduce distortion. Solos and vocals do sound good however. I don't object to manufacturer's doing this sort of thing if they called them HD485XB and stated extended bass in the specification. The specification reads similar to any other. Have a look sites that show comparative curves of say a HD595 with this one and it will become obvious from the high arcing curve in the bass area what this set will sound like. Even after being played in they only sound OK on cheap mp3 players which have little or no bass. I am probably asking far too much for this price level but having bought economy headphones from Sennheiser before I didn't expect this. An obsessively warm set of headphones. Not for audiophiles.
For:
Not too expensive
Nice sounding vocal and solos
Well made
Comfortable
Against:
Extended bass is intrusive and ruins balance
Impressive.......2007-09-16
I've had experience with two of Sennheiser's cheaper alternatives prior to buying these. One pair was uncomfortable yet sounded good and the other pair had a detachable wire, which eventually became faulty over time.
These HD 485's represent the minimum you ought to spend on a pair of cans if you are half serious about audio and comfort. Let me set the record straight and make it clear that THESE ARE VERY COMFORTABLE and I literally forget they are on sometimes because of that very reason.
As said in the Amazon description there's a tight bass side to them, which is very true, also everything else is still present and the treble response and mid-range is still good.
These will be a mainstay set of phones for me until they go pop and for the money you can't go far wrong.
Poor design.......2007-06-04
These may be good, I really don't know. What I do know is they're incredibly uncomfortable. And they're also lacking a volume control which is annoying. So basically they're uncomfortable and annoying.
Excellent buy!.......2007-05-31
I bought these a few months ago, and have used them regularly to listen to hip hop on my computer and on mp3 players. The sound is brilliant, the bass really thumps and they are very comfortable.
The previous review slated the aesthetic and said for indoor use only, but I regularly go out with these on, they are quite big, but if you have a hoodie on they look alright, I like the "spoke" design and was one of the reasons I bought them, they stand out.
Great headphones but indoor use only.......2007-04-19
Fab 'phones but unless you've been 'upgraded' and don't mind looking like a cyberman, you can only really wear these indoors. Shame as otherwise they are truly excellent!

THE BEST YET.......2006-02-11
I HAVE HAD OWNED AND TRYED MANY HEADPHONES OVER THE YEARS, BUT WITHOUT ANY QUESTION THE HD600'S ARE THE BEST. BETTER THAN THE MORE COSTLEY MODELS.

Great headphones.......2007-12-21
I bought my pair of HD600's back in 2001 and am still using them today. I was a bit reluctant at first to part with so much cash but they were worth every penny although like all Hifi I would recommend you listen to a pair before you purchase them.
The only criticism I have is that the cables tend to go faulty after a few years. I am now on my 3rd one but I do use them rather heavily. On the plus side you can buy spares for them very easily which obviously extends the products life unlike all the cheap headphones I threw away in the past because of a damaged lead or a lost earpad.
Excellent headphones!.......2006-07-14
I've owned these headphones for over a year, and everyone who has ever used them has always been very impressed! Definately a worthwhile investment if you like listening to music.
Fantastic Phones.......2004-02-25
These phones get everything right, the bass is clean and solid, mids are not just muffled in with everything else and the highs peak nicely with the rest.
Whilst they might not look the most attractive headphones, they certainly play their part and sound great for all types of music ive found, though it plays classical like nothing else ive heard before.
I dont know what the reviewer above is going on about as ive never found a bad, average or even just a 'good' review of these phones. They are always rated as excellent, google them and you will see. And anyway the grado's bass is appalling, as is the overemphasis on the treble. You cant even compare most grado's to this, let alone the sr80.
Mushy and Bland.......2004-02-13
Take a pair of HD500's, mount them in a bigger, better padded shell, iron out the sonic lumps until the sonic slope is smooth, add a dash of sparkle and you have £250's worth of headphones. But only on planet Sennheiser!
These were very disappointing. The same boxy sound that plagued the HD500s was evident, but here it had been absorbed into a kind of highly spiced audio soup. Instruments didn't seem to be defined by any boundaries. It was impossible to get an impression of the shape of the music, because all the colours were mashing into each other in their haste to get away.
I'm not sure why this mess should be so evident in the Sennheisers. It's a bit like listening to the audio equivalent of a big budget Hollywood action blockbuster - plenty of noise, but no real substance.
Listen to any of the Grado range to hear what headphones should be.
Sound good, look good, what else do you need?.......2003-11-06
Stunning headphones indeed. The first thing you think is that the appearance is really quite elegant and not too techno-aesthetic at all. The next is the crystal clear sound, be it Mahler, Fatboy Slim or Frank Sinatra.
I would advise, with audiophile headphones with this level of impedance(300 ohms!) you invest in at least a generally good headphone amplifier. I use a simple £80 job, but it still bumps up the clarity and powers these beauties to their full potential.
Great buy!
