small and fast.......2008-01-18
works well connected to a battery powered laptop (even with the provided extension lead). it is so nice to have 250GB in such a small package.
data transfers
- to toughdrive: I got up to 10 MB/s with big files, 5MB files go at ~8MB/s
- from toughdrive: well above 10MB/s and even up to 19MB/s for larger files.
the drive is silent, and the internal USB cable is just enough to plug it to most desktops.
it has a Hitachi drive inside.
Cannot believe its possible!.......2008-01-11
Can you imagine having a very beautiful gadget in your pocket, weight less than your mobile phone, can carry 250GB, connects to vista/xp with no hassle,...? This is it!
Very light, silent and surprisingly cool and cool!!
btw, don't expect to have a fabulous backup software free with any hdd. (Try Second Copy, you wont regret it, trust me)
Great drive.......2008-01-09
Nice finish, good grip. Nicer than the slippery gloss fingerprint prone WD drive which I also have.
I use the backup software, first time I have found useful free software with disc drives. SW has stupid american dates on log files though: 01.02.2008 for 2nd of January.
I give it 5 stars but really four and a half because of the pesky/beautiful blue light in the cable. Nice for many, but since I use it as an unobtrusive backup (on a short extension cable, sort of out of sight) with the idea that burglars would overlook it if they took the computer, I don't want a lighthouse effect calling attention to it. My usual solution of a little black card over the light doesn't work when it is the cable that lights up. I rolled back the cover and dug in towards the LED in order to zap it, but cut a wire in the process. Fortunately my fine soldering skills are still with me. In the end I filled the hole and surround with black paint and rolled back the sleeve so it looks fine and the light is barely visible.
With two drives, one in the computer and one safe in a safe or with a relative, swapping each month and keeping each year end one indefinately, then a very neat and cheap archival system is made.
The 2.5 inch drives are really useful, I wonder when the next capacity boost will happen.
How Tough Are You?.......2007-12-07
As a marine biologist I have found this to be a fantastic item. I collect data whilst at work and the fact that the toughdrive is not only shock proof it is waterproof too therefore I dont have to worry about losing my data. Shock proof to say the least, i dropped this off lap and it must have fell 2 meters down a rocky bank, not a millimeter scratched out of it.
Fantastic product from Freecom. Great for anyone who works out doors!!
Top hard drive!.......2007-12-04
Nice portable hard drive, better then the other average drive in a plastic cases in the market! More capacity then my laptop with 250GB inside so should last a while. NTI shadow software included which is a good bit of software, might actually use the free software for a change. Comes as FAT32 but very easy to format to NTFS. Got recommended by a friend and will give him a pat of the back, a 10 out of 10 drive, cheers Amazon/Freecom.

Great product, but slightly misleading........2008-01-20
Fast, compact, light weight, USB powered with no external power source and is instantly compatible with 99% of systems... even works fine with my PS3! What more can i say? Its great.
The only issue I have with this product is that the manufacturers have measured its capacity in decimal but computer systems measure in binary. So when it says you get 160gb, what you ACTUALLY get is only 149gb... which i thought was rather misleading to the customer.
From what I've found though all manufacturers do this so it can't be avoided. Either way its probably going to take me years to fill up that much space anyway.
Overall its a great product and very handy to have, it just could have been made more clear about the actual capacity of it... but thats a problem with all USB sticks and external HDDs, just either have to get used to it or make sure you realize it before you buy.

Fantastic item.......2008-01-06
I needed some extra storage space when I discovered my laptop from a few years ago was nearly full (it only has 20GB of space). I looked at a few external hard drives and decided to go for this one. It has been fantastic. As soon as it arrived I was able to plug it in and the computer recognised it straight away and the biggest surprise for me was the weight of the item. It is like carrying a small pack of playing cards.
If you need extra storage space or to transfer large files around without wanting to carry your computer then buy this item.
This is a mobile hard drive - about the size of a passport !!!.......2007-12-04
Yep this is a mobile hard drive that is USB powered and does NOT need a external power source - ideal to carry your files and music with your laptop - I bought mine so I could easily take all my college work from home and back - only £50 so it suits my budget - has worked like a dream so far and is built well - it survived a fall down the stairs at college!
Very happy
This HOT product is Mustard.......2007-11-22

Magnet - Danger!.......2007-12-12
Is there a risk in having a magnet so close to the camera? It may not affect the memory card but what about the motors in the optical system etc?
Canon Ixus 70.......2007-10-04
Got this along with the camera from Amazon. Chuffed with the camera but very pleased with the case. Nice quality feel and look to it and much better for having a magnet rather than velcro. Every time I used my last case it felt like everyone within a mile would turn and look at me every time I opened the case!
Good value and a perfect fit.
Magnet too strong.......2007-09-30
I bought this case for a Nikon Coolpix S51. This case is soft on the inside, but only on one side. This indicates to me that the camera is meant to go in one way, with the LCD facing the magnet. However, the magnet is too strong. This magnetic flap actually cracked the LCD screen on my camera upon closure. I highly recommend VELCRO!!
for Cannon IXUS 70.......2007-07-30
Absolutely love this little case. This is my second Cannon IXUS camera, and previously bought a cannon case. However in my opinion this Lowepro Napoli 5 leather case is far superior, and cheaper too, so in all it's a win win. Fits the camera like a glove and looks sexy too (if a camera case can do that??).
If you're thinking about this camera case as a purchase, don't think for long. It's definitely a good buy.
Tight fit... Perfect for Canon Ixus 70.......2007-07-24
I've just bought a Canon Ixus 70 camera and this case is perfect for it, very tight and well padded. Does the job nicely!!

Customer Reviews:
The best general purpose lens available in the EOS series.......2008-01-11
This lens is probably the best buy you can make for the Canon EOS cameras. It has a fantastic range, anything from group photos to portrait close ups.
The lens is also extremly fast and quiet.
The standard lens for the 400 series is the 18-55 lens and this is very limited. Most people will then go on to buy a bigger lens, like 55-300 mm to cover the greatest range. To me this is a mistake. You will end up having to swap your lenses frequently or end up with one being unused and usually be stuck with the inadequate 18 - 55 mm. True you will probably never use the 18-55 mm lens again if you go with this one but you will also have a lens that does everything instead and won't have to make further swaps.
The 28mm - 135 mm lens is the best general purpose lens available in the EOS series and the way to go.
A must-have addition to your kit.......2007-11-06
I'm relatively new to amateur photography, and bought this lens after TRAWLING through (i think) every single review available. Three months down the line, and I'm unbelievably glad I spent the time I did researching a lens that I wanted as a decent 'walkaround'.
Focus lock is very quick and accurate - only a couple of times photographing very similar tones in low light has the lens lens suffered, but any lens in the same situation would do the same. The lens actually focuses a second time after the initial lock to get very sharp pictures. It also features FTM (Full Time Manual) focusing which I've found particularly useful.
The lens is certainly heavier than the standard 18-55 EF-S kit lens, but more than light enough to carry around all day. The construction feels very solid - the lens barrel is plastic, while the metal mount gives the lens a hugely firm and professional feel.
I've found one of the two great things about this lens is the Image Stabilisation (IS). I've used the lens a few times to photograph bands where flash photography is banned (or frowned upon), and it's come up trumps. Anywhere in even slightly low light and it has proven invaluable in keeping my handheld images sharp. Go into a camera shop, find any Canon lens with IS and take comparison shots with it turned on and off. Honestly; you'll see what I mean.
The other is the focal length. 28mm is more than handy for landscape shots (in any case you can stitch together the shots on your computer after), and having the zoom go through to 135mm is perfect for portraits and places where you need that extra reach. I think it's best suited as a walkaround lens - especially when taken travelling.
One of the downsides I've found to the lens, though, is the lack of lock on the lens barrel itself. When the camera is pointing in a downward position, the lens can creep which is frustrating. Especially annoying when I have the lens on my tripod pointing to the floor. Grr.
Other than that, I can really see nothing to complain about the 28-135 IS USM. The IS is a dream; the images are sharper than I think the price tag warrants; the USM is silent as a mouse; focusing is quick; the focal range is excellent (but then of course that depends on what you want the lens for!!); and the variable aperture range (f/3.5-5.6) is decent enough for the majority of uses.
I'm not a professional, so distortion, flare, Bokeh and vignetting are beyond me. There are some very good review of this lens splattered all over the Web for that kind of detail.
I'm fantastically happy with this lens, and firmly believe it'll always be a part of my camera bag as my years and experience roll on! Happy buying...
Space in your camera bag!.......2007-06-25
This is a fantastic lens, I'm new to serious photography but even I can tell this has been a good choice after 2 weeks. All the other lenses have felt seriously underused since this has turned up in the camera bag, perhaps apart from the 50mm Canon, which gives you a slight advantage in low light levels. If like me you feel a little hesitiation in buying a lens nearly as expensive as the original camera (400 EOS), grit your teeth and go for it, it is well worth the painful credit card bill.
