Comfortable, stylish and great-sounding.......2005-05-11
I don't know how anyone could be negative about these headphones - they seem spot on and innovative to me. I love that they look a bit different - they are hardly ever uncomfortable (the secret's holding the clip open while you put it on each ear, then it'll grip properly when it springs back).
The sound response will vary according to each listener - the universal clips will obviously suit some ears better than others. I think I have smaller than average ears and I feel someone with average ears would get a better coveraage of the driver unit to the ear. As it stands the headphones angle outward slightly when wearing, when adjusting them I can hear the sound improve if the driver unit is pressed slightly closer than the clips allow. This would probably get uncomfortable over time though so it's swings and roundabouts really - make up your own mind if you're willing to trade a bit of sound delivery for comfort!

I bought myself a set of these clip-on earphones as I've never normally been able to get on with earbud or in-ear phones. They are not very good at all however, I'll list the pros and cons I think
Pros: They put out a good level of bass, I found them good for listening to house music.
Cons: They leak a LOT of sound, turn them up loud in a room with others in it, and they'll know about it.
They are mighty tricky to fit on and have them sitting correctly on the ear, even when fitted they basically just hang down over your ear.
I find them very uncomfortable after about 20-30 mins listening, the clip digs in to the top of my ear and they are not particularly light!
After buying these I went back to the in-ear phones, namely the Sony Fontopia model, which I find far better, I'd recommend them!

Compare these with the inner ear headphones and they're amazing. I've tried the standard Sony Fontopia ear buds that ship with the Net MD's, wasn't impressed with the bass-midrange on them at all, so then tried the much raved about mdr-ex71slb's, and was sorely disappointed with those - very little bass response.
I was delighted when I tried these mdr-q55sll's, though. Lovely crisp treble, good mid-range, and very impressive bass. Yes, the bass is emphasised somewhat, and there's a bit more noise leakage than with the ear-buds (I'd rather not disturb others on the bus/train if I can help it) - but I think this works well in noisier environments, where typically it is the treble that is easier to hear and the bass and midrange is lost.
The clip system around the ear is a bit fiddly initially, I wear glasses but it doesn't seem to interfere with those - easier to put the headphones on with the glasses off though. Certainly comfy to wear with glasses.
The headphones test out well for classical, house, and rock. Some tweaking of the graphic equaliser is handy, but they sound pretty good with that flat too!
For those who've complained about the cord length, yes it comes with a short cord, which is handy for those of us using it with walkmans etc that have remotes. Sony include an extension cord for use on things that don't have the remotes, taking the cord length to a standard pair of portable headphones. It's worth noting that the big enclosed headphones that'd be more used on hi-fi's or DJ decks normally come with a much longer cord, for a reason - you don't carry such things around on your waist. There is a solution for this, further extension cables are readily obtainable from local hi-fi shops, for those who complain the included cord is insufficient.
Whilst you can extend a cord with ease, it's a lot harder to make a long cord shorter, for use with portable devices. Sony've done the right thing by making it a short cord + extension.
Overall a very good set of headphones, I'm very pleased with them so far, they finally do my minidisc's sound justice.

I just bought a Sony CD Walkman D-NE715 and was looking to buy these headphones to go with it. The specification, price and style are great and make them an ideal replacement for the cheap ones supplied with the player.
However, other reviews here complain about the cable length being too short. This is not a problem as these headphones are designed for connection to the remote of a Walkman and as such only require the shorter 30cm length. Perfect for plugging into the remote when clipped to your shirt. No more tangled cables to undo everytime you want to use the headphones.
I just hope I can get used to the clip-ons.
Bassy, yet flimsy.......2003-11-07
I must say I really don't like it when my headphones break or refuse to work. I always dread getting a new pair, and finding them to be everything I don't want from them - bad size, small cable, long cable, no bass etc, so when I got these I was not happy at all. The cable is really SHORT, 15cm, but with the extension you get an extra 35cm to bring you to 50cm, not bad if you have something like an iPod and use the remote control cable, that's a good move by Sony, but as I have people who want to sleep when I watch TV, using these headphones is useless! The cable is nowhere near as good as my last pair with 1.2M of cable.
The design is poor, not easy to put on or take off, the spring built ear holding piece is rubbish; come on Sony, what went wrong? It's not really good at holding your ear close to the headphones at all.
As for sound quality, not bad, not a very good equalised sound, rather flat except for bass, which I do like. I tested it with classical, and it's not a nice sound. The bass was good for dance music and hip hop, but otherwise, forget it, this is not for you.
Altogether this is a rather disapointing pair of headphones, all my nightmares came true, short cable, badly adjusted earpieces and generally not a nice sound. I feel robbed by Sony, this doesn't reflect the quality I am used to from Sony, never again.

The headphone band is tight and no easy way of adjusting for comfort. If you are not careful the band can crack/snap. The sound quality is good but as you are relying on bluetooth and therefore the sound can break up even when near the source (mine is an HP RX3715 iPAQ. I prefer 'wired' headphones.
