No more burning DVD's for me!.......2006-11-08
This little diamond is a must for any movie downloader!you just plug it into the pc via the USB port, you then drag and drop the movie file onto the hard drive, connect to the TV via composite or scart lead.
swich on and the drive will open up to let you see all the folders with movies,pictures or mp3s you then select the folder you want press play on the remote control and away you go!
another good thing about this is that if you require subtitles with your movie you just put the subtitle file in the same folder as the movie and you will see the subtitles when watching the move!somthing i could never do on blank DVD'S!
Picture and sound quality is excellent and looks pretty amazing on my 42" plasma! buy it and save loads of time and money not burning and buying blank DVD's

ATMT Media Drive.......2008-01-04
A great little unit that plays back a wide variety of video formats. Nice,fast file transfer from pc's and good remote. The support for a scart lead or component cables (this is supplied) is a nice touch.
The only downside is the fan, which is bit noisy for the first 15 minutes.

This is not a bad little media center. The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't support the newer Windows Media format, MP4 and doesn't support H.264. Other than that you are left with Xvid which is good in a way as the file size is low but the quality isn't much to speak of. H.264 is really interesting because you get similar file sizes but amazing quality instead, although it takes twice as long to encode. The fan is noisy as well. It would be good if you could manage your files better, the navigation looks cheap and basic.

Expensive external hard drive .......2007-08-05
I have the 320Gb version. The software is useless. You can view photographs but thats about it. I tried mpeg1, mpeg2, avi,Divx and Dvd movies. all were ripped using different software and all played on other computers and DVD players but they would not play on this player. If i cut a movie down to about one minutes play time clip it some times worked. I spent ages trying it and could not get it to operate as it should. The remote works and all its functions work, but in the end this is an expensive external hard drive.
ATMT Media Centre Changed My Life!.......2007-03-08
I've been using this media centre for a week now and I'm VERY impressed.
It takes about 4 minutes to transfer a film from my computer to the hard drive and less for TV shows. No hours spent burning VCD or DVD-Rs.
I find the remote control exceptionally compact but also comprehensive and easy to use. You don't have to be too precise with aiming at the box for it to work which I've heard as a criticism of some cheaper Media Centres.
400GB is a huge amount of storage. I'm using it for PC back ups - which can be kept on a separate partition from the media, and I plan to transfer all my DVDs onto it so I can move my DVD collection out of the living room into the loft.
The unit is only the size of a couple of DVDs itself. I find it quiet - there is a hum but this cannot be heard over the TV. There is a blue light on the front to show it's on, which could be an annoyance, but it's no worse than most DVD players.
It can be used to play music, but it doesn't compare to an MP3 player which can shuffle tracks and have playlists.
I'd recommend it to anyone as a useful storage device, but especially those who download music and videos from the internet.

Do not buy this! Great interface, great to use, just wait till you press play and wait for that Rolls Royce fan to kick in and drown out all sound. I got this yesterday, it's back in the post first thing this morning

Ive been looking for an External HDD for a few weeks now, the average price for a 320Gb External HDD will set you back £50.00 , for an additional £50.00 You can have the option of playing all of your media on most TV's without having to spend hours converting to Disc.

How long does it take to move a 1Gb file to the HDD ?

It takes around 10-20 Seconds , you can copy and paste multiple files. Please note that Windows Vista is supported even though it doesn't say this on the box.
How easy is it to Setup ?

Connect the HDD to your PC , a new drive will appear just like any portable HDD, Create the a few folders , e.g DVD Movies and cut and paste the files into each folder, thats it !. I would recommend that you rename any dodgy filenames e.g (i_robot-dvdrip.avi) - ( I Robot.avi ) this will give you a nice clear dvd menu. Just to the same with your Music and Pictures if required.
Whats the Quality Like ?

Using Component connection thats the Yellow , Red and White connection the quality is impressive, the setup menu allows you to select various TV Modes, use SmartScan which will increase the overall picture quality, the sounds is also good quality, if you have Dolby 5.1 it would be even better. If you find the 16:9 window is to small for viewing simply press zoom on your TV you might loose an Inch of the video but the picture is 20% bigger, and it doesn't loose the quality.
I have heard that the fan is noisy ?

The fan is un-noticeable when a movie is playing, maybe in a quiet a room you might here a slight noise but when your movie is playing the fan isn't a problem, you have to remember it is processing data all the time so with any HDD device you have to expect a fan or some sort of cooling device, overall the fan is no louder than your DVD Drive reading a DVD.
Other Reasons why you should buy one of these ?

- You can fit approx 436 Divx Movies at 750Mb Each.
- Or store 3,200 Music Albums at 100Mb per Album.
- Save money on DVD+RW's , also save Time on Converting to DVD.

Excellent Device, Very Easy to Install, Excellent Quality Video and Sounds. Doesn't support .WMV or .WMA but most Albums these days are in .MP3 Format , Maybe ATMT should invest more into adding more functions such as playlist feature, and maybe WiFi Support.

I bought one of these to play downloaded and ripped movies. I have used the private folder setup thats on the disk. BUT I'm not sure if you can access it via the remote if you hide the folder! Its seams silly to be able to password protect it but not play it!

I took a chance on one of these drives as I was in the market for another back up disc. I got mine from Maplins for 99.99 (sorry Amazon) and quickly stuffed it full of ripped DVDs, DIVX and MPEG files plus my music collection of nearly 200gb of MP3 and WMA files.
The next day I got round to actually plugging it into my TV and it seemed to love DIVX, DVD and MP3 files. However it can't even see WMA files. So if like me most of your music is in WMA format you will have to convert them or re-rip them to MP3 if you want to play them on this drive.
That's the only reason I give this 4 stars though. I love everything else about it. Ok it could be cleverer and give you random play or playlists facilities but if you want it mainly for back up you won't mind that.
It's very small and neat and quiet when just playing. It's a bit noisier when it has been running a while when you are filling it via USB.
It looks great standing by the TV. So much smaller than a DVD player.
I'm already thinking about buying another one.
ATMT MP3 players can play WMA files so it seems a silly oversight that this can't. But so far that is my only complaint.

I have two of these that work - gives you an idea of how fab I think they are. I tried to buy a third one but so far I have had two from Amazon that just don't work at all. I don't know if there is a faulty batch. I know I'm doing the right things with it because a) I already have two which I use day in day out and b)it's pretty idiot proof - so I know there is something wrong with the last two. My computer just won't acknowledge their existance! If you can get one that works though I highly recommend them - but go for the one with the larger memory as you'll use it so much you'll run out really fast with the small one.
