Product Description
802.11b/g 11/54Mbps Wireless Range Extender. 10/100Mbps (Auto MDI/MDI-X) interface for connecting to Ethernet network. 64/128-Bit WEP & Wi-Fi WPA certified. Works with any 802.11g device.
The D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G710 Wireless Range Extender functions as a repeater that increases the wireless signal range in large homes and buildings. This device takes an existing 802.11g wireless signal and repeats it to enable wireless connectivity in the basement, patio, garage or any "dead spot" areas where your original wireless signal could not reach. Transmitting data at up to 54Mbps speed, this device is an ideal way to extend the reach of your wireless network.
Operation Range Extension
Repeater signals are provided when the DWL-G710 is deployed in conjunction with a wireless router or access point. It can receive signals from router or access point up to 100 meters away, then re-broadcasts the signals to wireless clients beyond the edge of the original network. Range extension of up to 50% of the original network on a 2.4GHz frequency band.
802.11g Wireless Standard
Complying to the 802.11g WLAN standard, the DWL-G710 provides speeds of up to 54Mbps and is an ideal solution for bandwidth intensive wireless applications at home and office. It is also backward compatible with 802.11b standard wireless devices, providing seamless interoperability with the earlier standard equipment. By maintaining compatibility with your existing wireless network equipment, this device lets you upgrade to a higher speed while protecting your past investments in networking.
Network Security
The DWL-G710 provides standard WEP 64/128-bit data encryption. MAC Address Filtering and Disable SSID Broadcast are additionally provided for you to set up a robust network security.
Simple Setup
A web-based Wizard allows you to set up the device and apply security settings for the device. After a quick configuration, you can place this range extender in close proximity of your wireles
Customer Reviews:
It does what it says on the box, but..........2007-05-25
Eventually I've got this to work and it's now repeating a signal from an old D-Link DWL1000AP all over the house. But be warned
(a) It is not as easy to set up as D-Link claim, and
(b) By and large, their technical support are really dreadful.
The whole trick is to gear your DWL-G710 to the slowest component on your LAN. If you set the transmission rate to 'auto' and expect it to find the best rate itself, you're in for a very frustrating time. I found this out the hard way and it's only when I set the Tx rate to 11mbps that it all came together.
Essentially, the configuration is quite easy. You need to connect the G710 via the cable provided to a laptop, but you have to assign a static IP address close to the repeater's - such as 192.168.0.26
Once you access the router, you enter your router's gateway address, set the Tx rate to whatever value and let the router search for your network. Assignation of SSID is automatic from there.
One other point - although my wife's PC showed the signal strength as strong, it kept dropping and pinging was showing a loss. Cured by replacing the existing antenna on the G710 with a high gain dipole (plenty available on Ebay)
Bear all this in mind and there's no question the repeater certainly does the job.
Difficult to set up with non-DLink equipment.......2006-12-27
I managed to get this range extender to extend a Netgear router, with or without WEP security. The only way to make it work was to change the Tx speed setting on the DLink extender down to 2Mbps.
I was trying to extend to a laptop on the edge of my router's reception. This product was little use, I couldn't find anywhere between the router and the laptop which had a good signal to both.
Also, on non-DLink products, there is no documented way (and no way that I could find) to tell the strength/quality of the connection between the range extender and the router (only between the range extender and the laptop). You have to guess.
Not really recommended for use with a non-DLink set-up - maybe generally best not to mix-and-match wireless products from different vendors? I'm not sure.

It works!.......2007-08-26
First of all when setting this up connect it to your PC via ethernet cable and set it up that way. Ignore the 'simple press of a button' blurb they feed you. If your network is protected, as most of ours are, then the one touch doesn't work. Once you're set up however it works very well. Previously I only had 1 bar of signal upstairs but now since positioning the extender I now have full 5 bars. It hasn't dropped out yet, unlike it's Belkin wireless router brother, but that's another review!
Overall a very good product that does what it says, just be prepared for a bit of setting up grief.
Probems with a F5D 7632uk4 wireless router.......2006-01-29
This item will only work with a 7632 router if you buy two units.
The sales literature on this site does not state this, if you check the manufacturers sales literature it leads you to believe this is a standard add on, but if you check the details (not easy to find!) or if you contact Belkin, they will tell you to buy two or upgrade your wireless router to an ADSL2 unit.
Seems a bit pointless...........................
Belkin makes it easy.......2005-12-31
I've had this Belkin product for approx. 6 months connected to a Linksys modem. It is easy to set up and when you've got wi-fi,you wonder how you got by without it.Very good value.I also bought the Belkin USB wireless adaptor and the connection speed, between the two,is superb.
Excellent!.......2004-07-15
Had this product for about a year now, took about 5 minutes to setup (make sure you have the latest firmware from www.belkin.com and not www.belkin.co.uk) I orignally only had 11b on all of my networks I bought this as an add on (Not from Amazon) and it extended my wireless network coverage as well as allowing my 11g networks to connect at the same time with 11b, had not 1 single problem and had it about a year now.
Works perfectly! I would recommend this to anyone who already has a network and is looking to extend its network coverage or someone who wants to upgrade to 11g!
5/5
Easy To Set Up And Reliable.......2004-04-29
I have two of these to provide coverage for my quite spread-out home. They are easy to set up, and can be configured to MAC bridge with ease byaccessing a sub-net web based interface. It is true to say that all clientPCs at home use Belkin (Broadcom) wireless LAN cards, so its notsurprising thing have worked out so well. An additional bonus for me isthat these WAPs are some of the few items I have ordered from Amazon thathave both a) arrived in a reasonably timely manner, and b)worked. Neveragain will I source any item from them:-(

Easy to setup. Don't know why other people had problems........2008-01-17
I, like a lot of the other users on here, was slightly put off by the reviews saying that item was difficult to set up. They couldn't be more wrong. It took me all of two minutes to set this up and boost my wireless signal from downstairs, from poor to excellent. Don't hesitate to buy this just because of comments from other reviewers.
Works Great Once You Have Pulled All Your Hair Out Installing It........2008-01-16
How on earth Belkin Sell this as an easy to use wireless Extender i really dont know, and Im an IT tech..They even have the cheek to put a button on it and call it a '1 Step Installation' Well Yes if you dont secure your network with WEP etc.. oherwise forget it.. Connecting it out the box to my Belkin Wireless Router caused an immediate IP Address Conflict which results in the network Falling Over and Dieing Laughing..
I wont bore you with the 2 Hours or so of trying to get this working, i`ll just leave you with the outcome.. It now does what it says on the tin.. my signal strength went from 40% with drop outs to 100% no drop outs.. so im now happy.. lets hope when i turn the network on in the morning it continues to work.... Great Price Though..
I use mine for AP.......2008-01-08
Took me about 12 mins to set this up from the simple instruction leaflet though i am using is for AP not as an extender .
I also use a Belkin wired router . Just made sure i put this within the same IP pool as the wire router 1-100 so set the wireless AP to 99.
The diff between this and the more expensive one is that this is the UK version the other is the DE version.
Only reason for buying this was so the WII could go online and the WII connected straight away. Yes more expensive than the Wii usb devise but for the extra its more versatile and dont need to have a PC running :) .
quite troublesome to set up but really good once its going.......2007-11-26
It took me just over half and hour to set this up on a laptop, since this is the first wireless network I have set up I cannot give a direct comparison to anything else but I'll make one thing clear: ignore the instuction manual, its useless, it basically tells you briefly how to set it up in repeater mode, but as I was setting it up in Access Point mode this was no use to me. The manual on the cd is much more detailed and thorough. I have to say though that once it was set up it has been really good, giving a good signal throughout our two storey house.
Expensive support be warned.......2007-11-19
If you have an insecure network then there is not massive problem. If however like me you have secured the network don't waste your money. Initially I spent £37 buying this product.
I spent over £30 on phone calls to the technical support centre, they then decided that I should return the product to the seller. The whole process took 4 weeks and since I bought it from Amazon and didn't keep the invoice detail I can't do this.
Overall cost nearly £70 and it still doesn't work. It does look nice though.

Does not do what it says on the box.......2007-01-17
The manufacturer's information says that this unit will work with virtually any router. After a failed set up, I contacted the technical support line. They tried several times to get the unit to communicate with the netweok, and then told me that as my router has only a single LAN port/switch, the DWL G710 will not work with it. Deeply unimpressed.

This is not a product for the faint hearted! .......2007-11-02
This is not a product for the faint hearted! The Auto Set-up feature is hopeless and didn't work even with all the security turned off. The user manual is inadequate! Belkin first-line telephone support do not know enough about the product and you have to wait forever for a call back from an expert - which I got 24 hours later after I had worked it all out. I recommend downloading the latest manual and resort to manually setting the unit up through a wired connection. If you have a PC and a wireless laptop even better as you can experiment with both ends. With a lot of trial and error, 4 hours later it finally worked. Once working it's excellent and does a great job of extending wireless range. If you feel network confident and are able to tolerate some of the set-up idiosyncrasies - then this is a great product for the price.
Don't Buy It.......2007-10-24
Straight out of the box, it didn't work. Three days later and hours talking to people in India it worked, but my main computer was no longer able to connect to the internet. All sorted now. This piece of kit should not be sold as "Auto Connect". If you're not a technical geek with the patience of Job, Don't buy it.
Once setup it is good - setup is the issue.......2007-09-06
Setup to extend the range of a wireless network without secutity would I'm sure be a breeze. However, hopefully most of us do have security enabled.
I shalln't bore you with the traumas of the setup but I certainly found that disregarding the instructions and connecting it with a network cable to my router to setup all the wireless settings & security and then when saving those settings and rebooting it quickly removing the network cable so that it was only on the wireless network after the reboot and therefore no IP address conflicts - was the answer.
Surely a company as experienced as Belkin can think of a better way of setting up on security enabled wireless networks?
A result at last.............2007-08-07
I've given this a 4star rating as i have an acceptable result, but the setup will be tricky if you rush it. The last reviewer is also right: It's essential to first download the manual (from the uk part of Belkin site), and print it out. You will need to! It will be handy for any family in the end. Just bear in mind that this baby has to read your lan settings aswell as access the Web.
I've not managed to get mine to work as a stand-alone repeater for my BT Home Hub setup (tho i'm still hopeful). It says in the manual to keep the radio channels (for hub and the extender) the same for this, so i should try this. However, it's currently working great as a wired extension on an umbilical-style ethernet chord to the BT Hub, giving me coverage into a wing of the house where a brick wall reduced quality.
So, as a wireless access point, it's still great value. Crucial part for me was.....(ready?)...to use ethernets to plug into it the way it recommends, then create a special Network Connection (in control panel, see the manual!) to temporarily access the Extender. Try a setting to match your Hub/router (enter your security settings etc), and then quit. Change your Network Connection back to an auto IP config, to test out access....leave it connected first, hopefully you'll have a connection thru the ethernet cable at least.
I didn't have problems with my firewall (as long as network ranges are specified). But router security should match the Extender.
Don't take a shortcut: patch into the extender and set it up that way, with your Network Settings handy!
If you know what your doing this is a great product.......2007-07-06
After reading the reviews on the site I was a little worried about buying this product but I have to say that I'm very happy with it. I live in a large old house and our wireless routers signal would not reach all the rooms. I looked at buying the Netgear wireless expander as I have a netgear router but the £90 price tag seemed a little high. In the end I deiced to ignore the negative reviews and ordered the belkin wireless range extender.
The setup was not easy and as mentioned below the manual that comes with the expander is pretty much useless. If your going to buy this product I would recommend that you download the .pdf from the belkin site. Also make sure you know what your doing when it come to wireless networks, belkin say that the setup is as easy as pressing a button but it's far from it.
Altogether the setup took me about an hour and now I have signal all around the house. I couldn't be more happy with the product.
