Brilliant!.......2008-01-14
My ye olde Sony Cyber-Shot was dropped by a friend, whist on holiday, so I decided to buy a new one. I stuck with Sony and I think I've made the right choice. The camera itself looks amazing. It's a very slim design, nice and light and will fit into your pocket/purse so is ideal for a night out.
The picture quality is excellent and the shutter speed is super quick so no blurred photos so far! Face detection works really well, and the smile detector function is genius. Me and my friends have been trying to catch it out, but it keeps on spotting the grins! The touch screen is really easy to use and I love the way that you can edit photos on the camera itself. I'd usually have to download them to my Mac to remove the red eye etc, but this does it for you! The menu is easy to use if you're used to Sony Cyber-Shot.
In conclusion, I would thoroughly recommend this camera. It's slim, sexy and does it's job!
I love my camera!.......2007-12-28
I just got the Sony T70W for Christmas and I absolutely love it! So far I have had no problems with it. It has loads of features and I don't know what half of them are for but then again I'm not an expert with cameras...the super macro is amazing! It works brilliantly! Sometimes I can't get the smile setting to work but that might just be me. Had a few blurry pictures so far but wasn't using the flash = oops!
Overall, a great camera. It's slim, light, stylish and the touchscreen is great! I would recommend this camera to someone looking for a camera they can fit in their pocket that is of good quality but are not an expert in photography...maybe just someone who wants to take pictures with friends or nights out =]
Better than T200 in terms of Size, Screen, Weight........2007-12-15
My cousin bot a T200, i bot the T70, other than the 2x extra zoom , the t70 is a much better product. the extra .5 inch of screen u get is just an expansion of the t70 screen and pictures looks stretched as compared to the t70; in short the t70 has a FINE display, while the t200 has a bigger but cruder display (fit for people with reading disabilities :P ) .
The t70 weighs less than the t200, it is smaller, it has a brilliant screen albeit 3 inches.
On a different account.. the pictures aren't upto my standards, specially in less than perfect light. i wud prefer the Panasonic DSC-TZ3 ... but the size and portability wins in my case. its a tradeoff i am ready to settle for.
The best part is the 'in-camera' picture editing. u can crop, remove redeye, resize any PIC to HD or any Lower resolution than the one u have taken picture in , these are very nice features. There is also a feature where u can write, draw or stamp ready-made designs on ur pics using the touchscreen. a brilliant feature.
One of the draw backs is that the screen is soft, everytime u touchit, u see the adherent colour blush effect of touching an lcd screen. i just hope it doesn't ruin the display...
Dont be fooled by the HUGE FULL HD 1080 sign, it merely means that AFTER U BUY A SPECIAL CABLE for connecting to HD tvs, it can show pictures in HD resolution if the picture is stored or resized to that resolution in the camera. Digital cameras are normally able to show pictures on standart TVs. The above feature is just an upgrade meant for HD TVs of this feature. too bad ur pics aren't automatically resized, u can only view pics that have either been taken in the 16:9 res or after u have in-camera resized it manually.
Supermacro is lovely and works very finely. Face recognition is okay till a certain distance, after that i doesn't recognise faces. smile shutter works very nicely.battery life is short though for a sony digital camera cuz of the big screen and its touch features, still its good enuf and u can go crazy with picture taking and camera operation for a day or somewhat less.
Technology at its best.......2007-11-14
Firstly, i would like to suggest that you only buy this camera if you already have experience in using a sony cybershot. Some of the features are really difficult to use as the user interface is rather complex.
It is an awesome camera though! The pictures are crystal clear and crisp, and the anti shake and blur is very good.. as is the close up macro facility. I took a picture of my jeans and you could see the denim grain! Thats how good the focus is. With features such as "smile" whereby the camera automatically takes photos when it detects a smile is very clever!
One problem i did find with this though, is that you cannot change the quality of the photo. IE, with other cameras, you can set image properties such as 'Normal, Fine, or Superfine'. This camera doesnt have that function.
The touch screen is a little bit annoying at times but you get used to it.
The camera overall is very good, neat, and compact. I would highly recommend to anyone, as there are now actual things to fault it with, other than it being a tad hard to use with all its menu features.
Definitely a camera for those who know how to handle future technologies.

Superb.......2007-12-31
People moaning about the software not working properly. like review below, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR COMPUTER THEN! The old version of software did have slight glitch, but you can download new version of software anyway. The player itself is a superb product. light, very reliable, great design and easy to use. Its battery life, is awesome, you can all keep your ipod's as far as i am concerned. I want a product that can last more than a few hours of being switched on. This is an excellent product. WELL DONE SONY!
great once sort out software.......2007-05-28
I bought this and attempted to load the sonic stage software on to my lap top and absolutely nothing happened. I tried it on my fathers computer which is not a laptop and it began to install. A bit puzzled I called sony who said that they have since upgraded the software. (so the software that comes with it, is not suitable with laptops) and i was directed to a sony website address to downlaod the latest version 4.3. Took about 2 hours to downlaod. Saying that though happy with the MP3 Player, lightweight, slim, nicely designed, seems to work great so far. just beware if you have a laptop as the software may not work.
Brilliant Buy.......2007-01-15
I cannot fault this little piece of kit; great sound, good looks and extremely portable. The software has been adequate for my uses although I was having problems with tracks jumping after importing to the library. But I changed the file format to MP3 rather than ATRAC when importing and it seemed to resolve the problem. Another minor downside with the software is that I cannot open the user manual for some reason, however the device is so easy to use, after a bit of random button pressing, I managed to find, navigate and understand the menu. I bought it in the sale at PC World between Christmas and New Year for £[...]; best bargain I'd had all year!
Fantastic.......2007-01-10
I'v just got my new mp3 going and it is so small and easy to use, I know nothing about computers and managed to install sonicstage with no problems and its really easy to convert your tracks. I can only say that Slov01 is the problem and not the software as its so simple. I would defo recommend this product.
excellent.......2006-12-07
Why buy from anyone else. Sony lead the field when it comes to sound, this piece of kit is excellent. Good quality sound as usual easy to use software and the best thing is I can charge it on any computer. I love it. In fact its just come home from New York!
Would recommend this to anyone, go on spoil yourself.
Customer Reviews:
Great!.......2007-06-02
Having had a Sony digital camera before, which was a little disappointing because it had a miniscule screen, I have been very satisfied with this great camera, for a few reasons:
1. The screen is massive and means you can get a better idea of what you're taking a photo of.
2. It fits into almost any handbag with ease!
3. It's really easy to point and shoot - all you have to do is slide the cover down and shoot away!
4. Its rather tough - I've dropped mine a few times (on hard floors) and it still works, with no visible signs of damage! - It's perfect for butterfingered people.
Overall it is a really good camera and I carry mine everywhere with me because it's so light and small. I would suggest to anyone buying this camera to get a 4GB memory card because once you start taking photos you won't be able to stop and even though 2GB is probably enough (that's the one I have) 4GB would give you even more ease of mind - knowing you won't miss out on a photo!
Good but just not as sharp as the cannon ixus 900.......2007-04-17
Excellent camera, the screen is fantastic and the touch screen feature is a bonus! However the pictures just don't have the level of sharpness the cannon can offer which can get very frustrating indeed. Overall a great camera however i have always used cannons and seem to get better results.
Perfect!!.......2007-04-02
My Sony Cyber-shot T50 arrived last week (on time - thank you Amazon), and I was ecstatic. Here are the reasons I would recommend the T50:
1. LCD
- I confess, one of the main reasons I bought this camera was because of the 3" screen. I wanted a camera that had a 3" screen minimum, so the T50 was a prime choice. The screen is ample size, and the quality and precision is pefect. I was really apprehensive about the touchscreen being unreponsive, or difficult to use (especially because I have quite stubby fingers). However this was not an issue: the screen is sensitive enough so it reacts well, and stubby figures are no problem.
Screen Rating - 5 stars
2. Picture Quality
- Nowadays, you can purchase 10 megapixel cameras for under £200. It did cross my mind that perhaps 7 megapixels wouldn't be enough, but the quality is excellent. The pictures in fact are so high in quality that the size of them are 2 MB (which is actually slightly annoying - because sometimes I have to resize them to share, which is a bit of a pain.) Other from that, the quality is flawless. Fantastic! I haven't tried the ISO features (because I don't know how) - I'm not really a proper photographer, I just enjoy taking simple pictures (when I go out, on holiday, etc.) The T50 works for this perfectly.
Quality Rating - 5 stars
3. Size
- The T50 is the perfect size - not too big - it can fit in your pocket, but not too small - so it's not fiddly to use. I thought it'd be quite thick as well, but it's not an issue. The size is excellent - it COULD be smaller, but hey - with all the features installed on this, it's not a problem.
Size Rating - 5 stars
4. Attractiveness of Camera
- The camera is very attractive. I personally prefer it in black, but when I bought it the black wasn't on sale so I settled for silver. Silver is still nice, it's stylish and a camera like this will never go out of fashion. The sliding lens cover protects the lens, works as an on/off button and looks good.
Attractiveness Rating - 5 stars
Overall - this camera deserves 5 STARS because it excels in every area.
I really like this device and I'm confident it won't give me any problems (I hope I haven't jinxed it!)
My ONLY criticism is the lack of case - you want a case to protect the screen. Sony don't supply one with the camera, which I feel is a bit of a let-down, but hey. I purchased a leather case from Amazon, which fits snugly and looks good too.
I hope this review has convinced you to buy the T50, as I feel it is a camera well worth the money.
Top of the range compact.......2007-01-22
Having had an Olympus MJU-300 for 4 years, I was looking to replace it with a top of the range compact camera that was lightweight yet had all the features I wanted. There is a lot of choice with Sony, Olympus, Canon and Casio all making stunning and full featured compacts that have been getting good reviews. I decided on the Sony purely on reputation and comments I read about previous models in the T range. The listed price on the Sony website is £350, so when I saw it going for £215 on Amazon and being the top-of-the-range in the T series, I decided to place my order.
The first thing you notice is the weight which at 130g (without the battery) its lighter than some mobile phones! This camera looks amazing, it is truely the Ferrari of compacts. Secondly, the screen is one of the biggest and best I have seen on a compact and it is also a touch screen which means a lot less clutter on the back of the camera with only 2 buttons. Before buying this camera I was sceptical whether the touch screen would be as effective as having proper buttons but I can say after using if for a week that it performs very responsively and its extremely intuative. The slideshow feature is another great feature and you can upload your own MP3s to play alongside the pictures.
Picture quality is also very good thanks to the Carl Zeiss lens which is the same one as featured in the W range but is hidden away when the lens cover is closed. Outdoor daylight shots were very sharp and the marco mode worked really well for close ups. I take a lot of pictures in clubs where light is minimal so I decided to try it out. The flash worked really well keeping the subject in focus while still keeping the surrounding details and clarity.
The movie mode is also great but you can only capture about 15mins on a 1Gb card at the highest resolution (640 x 480 fine). The quality was very good when output on an LCD TV using the supplied video out cable.
Now for the negatives. Well you should invest in a good quality leather case as scrathes would not be welcome on something that looks this good.
Also the touch screen does attract finger prints quite easily so should be cleaned often. Otherwise this camera in a must have!
Here are my scores out of 10:
Looks: 10
Image Quality: 9
Movies: 8
Battery Life: 9
Overall: 9
A super little camera.......2007-01-11
I ordered this camera from Amazon just before Christmas. I resisted from using it straight away as I put the battery in the charger provided for 24 hours, I was always told to do this with new re-chargable batteries to make the battery work better and last longer.
When I finally got to play with it I realised what a super choice of camera I had made, it's a real plug and play camera. The HUGE 3 inch screen is great (and everyone is always very impressed, and to be honest always think it's more expensive than it actually is with such a good price on Amazon).
It takes memory stick DUO, not the traditional memory stick, so when you buy (min 1GB if I was you) remember to buy the DUO type!! Expensive compared to SD, but I found really cheap ones from digital perspective (i think)and got a sony high speed (worth the extra and amazingly fast) 1 GB for £17ish. Less than a second between taking one photo can you take the next, well I personally think this is fast anyway.
The camera is slim for a digital camera, 1.5 - 2 cms I'd say and the size of the screen is brilliant (the two main factors for me purchasing this camera), and very useful when viewing the pics - it even has fancy modes you can choose for seeing pics too in slideshow mode with a choice of music, choice of effects, changable volume and there's also a 'paint' mode where you can write on the pics (with plastic pointer included) in different colours, and add pre-set images such as stars, tear drops, hearts, cat paws, music notes in different colours to the pics. You can then choose to save the painted on pic to memory and it'll be saved beside the other pic (not instead of which one person thought would happen).
My mother had never used a digital camera before she used this one. She found it a bit hard that there was no view-finder at the beginning but soon got used to the screen. She also didn't like it that the screen was constantly moving at first, as with all digital camera screens, but again soon got used to it. By the end of the week she was taking my camera and enjoying taking photos (this sounds like a bizzare thing to say but we are a family who normally hate having photos taken and taking them, but now we are getting used to it thanks to this camera, the joy of deleting rough pictures makes all more open to having photos taken and the small size means it's totally handbag-able).
The anti-shake thing is good, I haven't had any 'shakey' photos in the month I have had it and taking moving pics is better than you will have ever had before with really no blurring, it's so clever.
I have had a few disappointing pics, ones that have been blurry but this was the fault of the person taking the pic. On the camera you push the button down half way and then a green light comes oo indicating it's focused and to press the rest of the way down to take the photo, my father pushed the button the whole way down in one swift movement and a blurry pic was the result of this. The half-way pushing of the button only takes less than a sec to focus.
On flash mode, there's an orange light indicating to the person IN the photo when it'll be taken, and on the timer mode the flashing of the orange light increaces as the timer goes down and when it stops you know the pic is going to be taken. 2 or 10 sec timer (2 secs is too short, but the 10 gives enough time for the person taking it to get in the pic and settle down).
What else, the movie mode makes the pics lighter than in the photo mode, but is great quality still.
Red eyes was a problem for me even with the red-eye reduction on, but just edited them on photo editing software, I think it's because I have very blue eyes.
Oh, the touch panel on the screen. Suitable for fat and skinny fingers it's easy as pie to work, only thing is it gets a bit greasy, I'm going to buy a protector for it, one of the silicone ones that you add to stop scratches (it's not scratched, but would be upset if it did get damaged) for peace of mind and would make it easy to wipe clean.
It does not come with a case, stupidly, so buy one, you don't want this camera to get ruined.
The battery is super - 270 pics and still had battery left, but the charger isn't huge so you cn bring it with you on hols.
Great quality pics so long as you take them properly; clear, crisp, good colours, flash easilty turned on and off, auto-focus brill...
I would recommend this camera to anyone, the touchscreen is a really special feature and this camera has the wow factor in all of my friends opinions, and definately in mine.
SUPER CAMERA!!!
Hope this helps,
Helen x

Beauthiful looker but pictures too noisy.......2007-12-16
Maybe I've got it set up wrongly but I find the pictures really noisy when I crop in. Really disappointed with the pictures compared to my older, clunkier but far clearer Canon Powershot S50 (which got broken by my daughter so I treated myself to a neat little red Sony DSCT100 instead. Really handy size, but soooooo disappointed with the images so far. Nothing I could enlarge/print :(

Comparison between i pod 3 Generation.......2007-11-19
I have just bought the SONY NW-S705 2 Gb player. It was a difficult choice, since the more widely bought i pod nano was almost the same cost & probably more appealing.
Reading the various reviews online did allow me to give the SONY a chance, especially since it's superior sound quality got it extra points. I also had the opportunity to hear my friend's Latest i pod (& there were no reviews for the new October 2007 3rd Generation version.
As expected, the sound of the SONY is far better, especially in relation to the Bass. The treble qualities are much the same in both. The noise cancellation properties are more pronounced in noisier surrounding, than in routine use (eg the gym). Also, the SONY offers features like virtual surround sound like Live, arena, etc which is a plus point.
As mentioned by various reviewers previously is the Sonic stage software - which is the one biggest drawback of this superb music system. I am not sure why such an advanced sound giant like SONY sticks to such an inconvenient software, instead of copy & paste or drag & drop functionality. Hence, information on album cover, etc all have to be entered manually.
Overall, I think that the product is good value for money, in spite of a few glitches.
AMAZING but ----- DO NOT BUY FROM A SELLER! BUY FROM AMAZON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-08-23
I simply love this MP3 player. I went for a small one as i have so much music that it forces me to get to know my real faves!
I had real big issues (still do) with my headphones. bought the set cheap (£60) off a seller on amazon. Should of been fine as it said it was new! Sadly, its been horrid. They worked for about 2 months, n then left one broke, and then the replacement worked for about a month, and the left one broke again. I say broke, i mean became effected by a manufacturing defect.
The design and noise reducing features are the best thing! THE NOISE REDUCING WORKS SOOOOOOOOOOO WELLLLL! I use it when walking, and I can hardly hear the cars go past. Its only when you take the headphones off that you realise how much they do! Also the quality is stupidly better! Now I have to rip cds at 256 kbs rather than 96, or i just start to cry!
If you are subjected to noise alot, get these now!
WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED !!!!!!!.......2007-05-23
FIRST OF ALL I'M A HUGE FAN OF SONY STUFF, I'VE OWNED A TON OF CRAP FROM THEM AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBS
WHEN THE PLAYER FIRST ARRIVED IT WORK PERFECTLY, NOT A PROBLEM, FILE SKIP WORKED WELL, HUGE PLUS, COMPACT, LONG BATTERY LIFE AND THE SOFTWARE IS REALLY EASY TO USE.
BUT THEN AS IF ALL WAS WELL
SOME THING WENT WRONG
FIRST THE FILE SKIP THING HAS STOPED WORKING, THE NAME IS SCRATCHED OFF AND NOW THE VOLUME IS SCREWED !!!!!!!!!!
THE VOLUME DOESN'T WORK , IT'S FADED AND NOW ONE OF THE HEADPHONES DOESN'T WORK
AND THE NOISE CANCELING THING DOESN'T WORK EITHER, AND THE HEAD PHONES ARE REALLY ANNOYING WHEN THEIR IN IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE HAS JAMMED THEIR FINGER IN UR EAR !!!!
IN TOTAL NOT BAD, COULD BE BETTER VALUE, GOING IN FOR IT TO BE REPAIRED OF FOR IT TO BE REPLACED OR REFUNDED
BUY IT! .......2007-04-04
GOOD POINTS
- great sound quality
- great headphones
- easy to use software which is nicely laid out and versatile
- quick charge and very long battery life
- great looks
BAD POINTS
- can only charge via usb (but battery life lasts long enough for say 2 weeks holiday)
- sometimes tracks "fail to transfer" and you have to try a second time when moving music onto the player
- theres no carry case available (that i can find anyway)
FINAL WORDS
A great player that offers great sounds for a great price plus it has a radio and noise cancelling which make it ideal for travelling or just listening to music at home, i strongly reccomned this player over ipods of any kind (who needs 20gb of storage anyway!)
Well made and the softwares ok.......2007-04-03
I bought this player about a fortnight ago having never owned an mp3 player before and am very satisfied with it. The build quality is excellent and although I had heard awful things about it the sonicstage 4.1 software is easy to use. I don't know how it compares with rivals in this respect as this is my first player but I have found it easy to store/categorise albums and download them to the player itself.
The sound quality is great (better than a friends ipod) and I am impressed by the noise cancelling feature. I am on the search for some sports ear phones for the gym which also cancel noise as the head phone socket is so designed that if you use a different make of headphones they fit but this negates the noise cancelling feature built in. A minor gripe.
I was considering a shuffle but bought this instead as it has the following advantages for the same price: much better battery life, a display, an fm radio and good quality earphones (but see comments above re gym).
Stuff Magazine reviewed this player and said it was a challenger to the nano, at the price I bought it (£58)its more than a match for the shuffle. Since then the price has fluctuated but don't forget if you buy a shuffle you will probably want to upgrade the inferior headphones.

Avoid.......2008-01-16
First time I've ever felt compelled to write a review on Amazon. This camera may look great but it simply takes terrible photos. The images are grainy and flat, very similar to my 5mp camera on my Sony Ericsson k850i. I upgraded from my p200 which I loved and the photos are 50x worse. Recommend you look at a Panasonic or Fuji camera which will give much better results.
Style over substance - avoid at all costs! Very poor image quality.......2007-12-29
This is by far the worst digital compact I have had the misfortune to use, avoid it at all costs if you want to be able to take good photos with a point-and-click digital compact!
I purchased this camera as a Christmas present for my girlfriend as it is small ("handbag friendly) and appears to possess some good features (image stabilisation, face detection etc) in addition to being 8.1MP.
To give Sony some credit, the camera does have a good solid feel and the LCD screen presented crisp images. However, it was only after my girlfriend uploaded the photos she had taken on Christmas day that I realised how poor the image quality actually is. All the pictures came out with a foggy haze over them. Each image also had a lot of "noise" and in low light conditions the pictures were appalling. Comparing the photos that had been taken by an Ixus 750 I realised how bad the images actually were. I use a 40D SLR as my main camera so know a bit about playing around with camera settings, and even when I changed the ISO and flash settings on this camera the pictures still came out far worse than the lower MP Ixus.
My suspicion is that to get the style (and price) of this camera right Sony have sacrificed the quality of the image sensors and compressors, leading to poor image reproduction. This is a real shame as it has the potential to be a nice little camera.
If you value the quality of your pictures look elsewhere (the Ixus range is great)
Super fast shutter.......2007-12-18
Picture quality on this type of camera doesn't vary much between equivalent modeld of different brands - you get what you pay for.
Shutter speed (or rather shutter lag) differs greatly and this camera is very quick - about .18 seconds for a single shot. Compare this with the IXUS models which vary from 0.38 to 0.45. It doesn't sound like much but it's often the difference between capturing what your trying to photograph and missing it.
Menu etc. is OK - not totally intuitive but not that hard. Switching from stills to video is a bit fiddly. Touch screen works fine, even with my fat fingers.
Only complaint is the lense is in the top left corner and it;s very easy to poke your finger across the lense - but with the large screen you'll notice it straight away.
Worth 5 stars just for being fast.
I lIked It.......2007-12-03
I have an earlier 5.1MP slim camera and got T70 as a replacement in September. A noticeable improvement was steadyshot, as blurred photos were always a problem with the earlier model. Another good feature is the auto speed of the camera and its ability to shoot in low light levels, without flash, that I wouldn't have considered with its predecessor. The bigger LCD is great, but I found it somewhat fiddly changing settings. All in all, I liked it and am very happy with it

Probably the best MP3 player on the market..........2007-12-21
This is just an amazing MP3 player... It beats any other MP3 player by far. How are these other companies still running?
Now, the BIGGEST mistake you can make when buying an MP3 player, is to buy a ipod. Don't. Just don't. They are the worst things ever made in history. Useless battery, rubbish sound quality, unreliable, weak.
But this MP3 player... Wow. Amazing battery life, amazing sound quality, sony - so reliable, and very strong.

Now, many people complain about sonicstage... Why? I have not a clue. I'm guessing it is because they are useless, stupid people who can't even switch on a computer. Sonicstage is better than iTunes by far, and you don't have to buy extra software to transfer videos to it, it comes with it!
There is a review on this site, which I swear the person must be talking about a different product... Here it is:
"i own a few players so can give some meaningful comparison - so let me list why i can only give this latest Sony player 1 star.... "
Most useless comparison.
"1) transfer speeds = v.v.slow! I have a Sony NWA1200 6GB and to transfer all my music files on to it takes about 15minutes. On this NWA808 to transfer exactly the same music files took the best part of 2hours!! "
Transfer speeds are well quick enough. It has been proven to be faster than any ipod... Don't understand why your complaining...
"2) when 8GBs isn't 8GBs! = transferring all my music files on to my NWA1200 6GB left me with 1.1GB of free space. Transferring exactly the same files on to the NWA808 8GB, well, can't be done - i ran out of space with 3 playlists still to transfer! So 2GB extra space = less storage capacity (this has to be a Sony!) "
It's 7.56GBs according to windows, 8,127,348,736 bytes. If you hadn't noticed, this is what happens with all media. Consider - Formatting, Software to run the player, and 1GB is 1,073,741,824 bytes according to windows, but according to media companys it's 1,000,000,000.
So it is about standard...
"3) doesn't recognise deletes = given the above, i tried to free up some space, but no, deleting around 1GB of data is not recognised - so the freed up disc space isn't available and in fact you're left worse off than if you hadn't deleted it! Whether this is an issue with the player or Sony's pitifully poor SonicStage software, who know, and who cares at this point!"
Have you ever heard of reading the user guide?? Eh? You should try it some day before making yourself sound stupid.
There isn't a delete, there is a move to the trash bin. It will then be deleted next time you connect your player to your computer and use sonicstage.
"4) 8GB for a video player = who are Sony kidding! I bought this for music only, which is just as well because even without the above issues, 8GB for music and video just isn't enough - unless you're willing to put up with poor quality music and video playback.
I've got a 30G video iPod and this seems a more sensible storage capacity for any player claiming to offer video playback."
Do you really want to put a full length movie on a device this size? The video is for small clips/podcasts etc.
"5) no external charger = you'll need your computer handy to charge the NWA 808 or own a compatible charger from another Sony player (i do), or buy one i guess, Sony don't supply one for their £170 price tag..."
What companies do? That's is an optional extra. I don't need one... Don't need one with it.
"Sony players do offer superior music quality playback vs. iPods - that's why i prefer them. But, you will have to tolerate Sony's continued incompetence to get things right with both their players and especially their software - wanna understand how Apple were able to come from nowhere to eat Sony's lunch in the music player market? compare Sonic Stage from Sony to iTunes from Apple - and 3years in, nothing's changed...."
SONY BEATS APPLE ALL THE WAY!! END OF! Not one thing about the ipod is better. Ipods are useless crap, and Apple is useless. Apple have never got one thing right. Sony have got plenty of things right - certainly when it comes to MP3 players. Sony are the best at making MP3 player, always have been, always will be.
So overall, don't buy any other player, just get this.
Connection to External Monitor.......2007-10-28
Whikst I agree with all of the comments made about the NWA808FB Walkman, I am disappointed to find that unlike other media players on the market, there doesn't seem to be any method for connecting the Sony Walkman to the sound/video inputs of a TV monitor or the AV inputs of a domestic TV receiver.
No adapter was received with the device and I cannot see anyone advertising such a connection adapter - not even on the Sony site!
Absolutley awesome.......2007-10-06
U upgraded from a Zen microphoto, to this amazing mp3. It's got everything: Music, Photos and Videos. music can be played back while watching photos, which can br viewed portrait, horizontal(left), or horizontal(right). It's thin, has a good feel in your hand, it feels really strong. The supplied headphones are amazing, clear sound and some reduction. It evens looks nice, compared to the new nano, which looks's like a biscuit it's streets ahead. It's light and the metal surround gives it a secure feeling. Sobicstage isnt great, but i found is quicker tahn itunes to import a cd. IT can be a pain when updating track info, but it's generally better then windows media player. Image converter 3 is good, but takes a rather long time, but its not that slow. ALthough there aren'r many RSS feeds, and it doesn't have podcasts like apple. I think its much nicer than a nano. It's got a time machine search, and a artist search, both of which are great. My friend, a life long ipod fan said he'd rather have one of these than a new ipod nano/ biscuit. All in all its amazing, and in constant use it'll lasta darnsight longer than an ipod...

After reading many reviews on this mp3 player I took the plunge and ordered one and been loading cds and podcasts on it for the past few weeks. Have to say it beats my dads Ipod nano hands down in looks, fuinctions and music quality. Sonic stage is not as bad as people make out. Sure it is a little slow transferring files but it is well worth the wait as music quality is superb and album art is a breeze to put on. I really cannot see the problem with sonic stage. Finally an ipod killer! If only Sony wouldn`t keep realising minor updates on their hardware (this mp3 player is already being updated!!) all the time and give it a chance to be successful!
Very good, but don't buy it!.......2007-09-18
This is a very classy mp3 player, and looks great in black. The display is very clear and the control buttons are very solid and make a welcome change for people who struggle with the ipod wheel. But the whole thing is let down by the reliance on SonicStage . This unit will play WMA, but you don't have drag and drop...you have to go via the worst piece of software ever! So, don't buy this, as Sony has just seen the light and is about to release a new model which overcomes the limitations of this player (I can't review it here - that breaks the rules).

From an amatuer point of view.......2007-10-13
I bought this camera around 8 months a go from Amazon and I have to say that initially I absolutely loved the device. You certainly can tell the difference in the quality of the images compared to my previous five cameras (which were all Casio or Canon) and the touch screen display is very easy to use and handy! The one thing that let the camera down for me was the unreliability of the device. Several of my friends and family have the same model and on occassions the retractable lence would jam, the camera would not switch on (despite charged) or failure messages would come on screen. I must add this was an occassional problem for us all but was a little frustrating if you want to get a quick snap.
I am a novice with cameras and just like a model that looks good, produces good quality photographs and is simple to use. This camera does all those things and should satisfy the needs of most. However, don't buy just because its a Sony as I feel that you could meet the same criteria with another big branded name for less.
The only compact digital you'll ever need........2007-08-31
An outstanding unit, beautifully crafted and easy to use. It's tough, lightweight, good looking, with a fairly common sense set-up for a camera with such a massive range of functions.
To answer the reviewer below who says that the picture quality isn't that much better than her old 6mp camera. Well, it is, it just probably isn't that easy to see until you start blowing pictures up to A4 and above. The human eye isn't going to be able to distinguish between 6mp and 10mp on a computer screen! Then again, define quality? If you're a recreational photographer who only prints 6x4s or views pictures on computer, then a 5 / 6 / 7.2 MP camera will do you fine......
Someone else said that pictures look grainy at ISO1600. I should hope they are! (For those amateur photographers, ISO is the sensitivity setting of the sensor - the higher the ISO, the more sensitive the sensor; hence a lower level of light is needed for the exposure. This is useful at twilight or indoor photos where you don't have the luxury of a tripod. The downside is that you get increased levels of `noise' - like static `snow' on a poorly tuned TV set.) Every camera will suffer from this at high ISOs and for a compact like this to offer such a setting is a bonus in itself. Besides, any decent photo-editing software can help you remove noise with minimal effort. Indeed, in low light conditions, the Sony deals with exposure much better than my big Nikon DSLR. It's just perfect for pictures inside churches, on café terraces at night (turn flash OFF and crank up ISO - brace camera as much as possible for exposure) etc. At the end of the day, a high ISO sounds good, but you'll rarely, if ever, use it.
If you're a strictly holiday photographer, you'll find this camera utterly perfect, even on fully automatic. I'm not a great believer in massive amounts of creative options on a compact digital, because if you're a semi-serious photographer who'll use them, you'll probably have a DSLR anyway. However, the Sony boasts a comprehensive range of features (program modes, fully manual settings) for every conceivable situation. It is a bit of a faff setting those parameters though, but don't worry, you'll rarely need them - automatic is great on this unit.
"Camera must be steady for shots with no flash?" Well, yeah, in low light conditions, that's a given. Show me one that doesn't need to be steady with no flash!! In fact, show me one that doesn't need to be steady full stop! In daylight, there's no problem with the Sony - colours are superbly rendered and images are pin-sharp. I take the point that Sony products do tend to have enhanced colour saturation (my TV and laptops both do), but the Zeiss lens here is technically brilliant
I love this little camera - for recreational photography, I tend to leave the SLR at home and slip this Sony into my pocket and snap away. (Even if I do have the SLR, I slip this into my pocket anyway, as it's a great backup, and it's far easier for other people to use when you ask them to snap you!) If you take it out for a day on holiday, though, I'd recommend you invest in a spare battery - the Sony's is good for about two hours on and off shooting - charging time from empty to full is about 3 hours.
Large memory cards will slow the operation down little, but that's life. Personally, I keep a 2GB card in all the time - that'll hold about 500 pictures at high resolution, which is more than enough for anyone at any one time (unless you shoot lots of video).
In short, this ground breaking 10.1MP from Sony is coming down in price - it's already about 50GBP cheaper than when I bought mine nine months ago. Don't be tempted with the massive MP sensors now - unless you're going to print posters, you'll never see the difference between that and a 10.1MP camera. Having said that, for most people a 6 - 7.2MP would be fine, but the sheer quality, ease of use and range of options on the N2 make it a winner every time. Can't fault it.
Amazing image quality.......2007-08-28
This has been the perfect camera for me as a total novice: easy to use, giant screen, superb picture quality no matter what the lighting or how unsteady my hand is. I've never been one to take photos because they always disappointed - now I take photos at every opportunity because I know I'll get some really good ones. I would recommend that if you buy this camera, you also buy a camera case as we didn't bother and the screen got scratched.
Slightly Disappointed.......2007-08-03
I purchased this camnera online a few weeks ago from Amazon.
On the whole I feel that the camera is just average:
Firstly, for a ten megapixel sony camera, I was expecting fabulous results. Unfortunately, the camera yielded pictures of quality that are not any better than the previous the 6 MP Konica Minolta that I used to use.
I also feel that the start up time is far too lengthy. Starting up the camera without a memory stick pro duo card take just over a second. However once i've inserted my 4GB card it takes 7 seconds, which is extremely aggravating.
Thirdly, I feel that the purple fringing on some images is excessive.
Finally, I've noticed that the camera doesn't seem to reproduce colour as 'truly' as expected.
To sum up, with the exception of the seven second start up time the, many of the other cons rarely crop up. They have merely been mentioned, as i expected better quality images from a sony.
On the flip side, the camera does generally produce okay images for that of an amateur, for an intermediate photographer i would suggest buying another.
It is superbly easy to use, which I find typical of a sony product.
And has a multitude of functions which can be used to 'enhance' your images.
Great Camera! Lives up to all expectations!.......2007-07-10
The Sony DSC-N2 is an excellent camera overall. There many reasons why I have given this camera a 5 star rating including:
Image Quality: The image quality is superb with max 10 million pixels. You can use it indoors or outdoors and all images come out like masterpieces.
Screen: The camera has a massive 3" screen which is also a touchscreen. Viewing photos on this high quality screen is a pleasure. The 3"/touchscreen also make this camera unique in a competitive market. The virtual buttons are big and clear and the layout is user-friendly.
Overall this camera is excellent value for money and you will not regret buying it. Its not the slimmest camera but is very well designed and built. It is truly special and has the WOW factor.
Highly Recommended!
