Great Radio, but no support for DAB+.......2008-01-06
This is a great sounding radio and it is extremely well specified, but it is not future compatible. Like most current DAB radios does not support the forthcoming DAB+ standard. In other words, it will be obsolete in around 5 years (the only model that currently supports DAB+ is the Cronos II). All manufacturers seem keen to keep this information hidden, for obvious reasons.
Although the Evoke 3 can record programmes to an SD card, the file format is Mp2, the native for digital radio. Unfortunately, virtually no Mp3 players and the iPod do not support Mp2 and you need to convert the files to listen to them on these devices, not a problems but something to be aware of.
Well worth purchasing if you can live with the above.
It's good but can be slow to react!.......2007-12-03
Sounds good and does everything it says well. It's slow to react sometimes but apart from that is's cool!
Great Sound but quite a danger when using the chargepak!.......2007-07-29
I have had two of these radios, the first one went back because of a fault with the connections.
- The radio worked fine when on mains, but when i switched to battery (to make it portable), it died and the only way to get it working again would be to remove all batteries or the chargepak, plug it back into mains and then replace the batteries. Not very portable.
- The radio itself is really good, sound quality is great and the use of the SD card facility is a masterpiece,
- but...when my second radio came exactly the same thing occurred. Then to add to that I plugged it in one day and the chargepak skin melted, the spring connection from the battery to the radio became hot and melted away from the frame resulting in a smoke filled room and a panic on my behalf.
- The radio went straight back and has been replacd by something a little safer.
The Future of DAB.......2007-07-03
I'd previously bought and returned three DAB radios which were either too bright or too loud when on standby, the Evoke 3 has neither of these problems. The major bonus however is the additional control this radio give you, not only can you stop, pause and rewind programmes you can also view and record future programmes with the easy to use guide, so for example I'll be able to listen to Radio5 live football when I choose. Surely this is future of Digital Radio.
Fantastic.......2007-06-23
It's almost changed my life! There's so much great stuff on the radio, and it's often on at such an inconvenient time. Now, I can listen to what I want, when I want.
I've had this a couple of months now and have found it completely reliable. The navigation for recording and playback is extremely user friendly. I've heard that DAB is inferior to FM, but for me DAB trumps FM + static, and the radio's always on signal - no re-tuning required.
I can transfer files to my computer with ease. Converting them to MP3 is pretty straightforward ( be nice if the Evoke could do this though! ), and then you can put it straight onto your player, to listen to on the move.
Aesthetically it's very attractive and the remote is a surprisingly useful addition. The EPG is spot on all the time.
As far as I know there's only one other radio like this ( a Roberts ). Why so few?
Top tip - get a 1Gb card at least, you'll fill it up in no time at all.
Top tip 2 - get the rechargeable battery ChargePak - then you can carry this round the house without trailing wires every where. Money well spent.

Chief! I've got a lead!.......2005-04-13
Very good. The 3.5mm stereo jack is just the right size for the headphone socket, and the wires inside the beautiful, semi-matt black plastic insulation, conduct electricity at exactly the right speed for note perfect audio playback.
I was initially worried that both a left and a right phono connector might be a tiny bit over-the-top, but was pleasantly surprised to find out that there were indeed sufficient sockets for them to connect to at the back of the stereo and nothing had to be left dangling unattractively. Phew.
Actually, very useful, seriously, for connecting your iPod to a stereo so you don't have to lay out unecessary wedge on Apple's daft dock thing with speakers, whatever it's called. Buy this and you're sorted.
Overall, one of the best bits of wire I've bought since my day-glo pink non-coiled guitar lead 15 years ago. A must have for connector fans.

great speakers .......2008-01-20
these are great speakers for the money that your paying also great for on the move if you have batteries
OK, but not as good as expected........2008-01-20
All the facilities are there for Apple iPods, (charging, sound, USB/iPod link) but I was disappointed by the quality of the sound, which is a bit thin, somewhat tinny. I tinkered with the iPod eqaulaliser, but it made little difference. The speakers are quite small, so inherently more tweeter than woofer.
As a bed-side player it's fine, but don't expect much more.
Does not charge MP3's.......2008-01-10
We were looking for a dock to charge an MP3 player and play it through speakers. In Amazon's write-up it specifically says 'Charges MP3' but it doesn't. You can charge a variety of i-pods and play various devices including MP3's through the speakers, but it does not have a USB port for charging MP3's. It looks nice but does not serve our purposes, so has to be returned.
Great Item!.......2008-01-06
Was really pleased with this item! Just came through today! Sound is great for me, and will be brilliant for travelling! Takes batteries and mains, which is even better! Great item for a good price!
Great little speakers :).......2007-10-12
These are great - nice sound, very compact and with the option of battery or mains power.
My new iPod touch fits in neatly and works well - I was not sure if it would.

Feel the adrenalin rush as you start strafing enemy positions at 350 mph 600 feet above the European countryside guns blazing and bombs blasting. In Combat Flight Simulator 3 you can fly for the USAF RAF or the Luftwaffe in some of the most advanced and e
Amazon.co.uk Review
With stunning graphics and accurate flight models, Combat Flight Simulator 3 lets you revisit the Western Front during World War II as a pilot in a variety of period aircraft. Significant improvements have been made over the earlier versions in the series, such as the addition of a dynamic campaign and cooperative multiplayer. Plus, there is an incredible attention to detail, with a new graphics engine that combines the ability to render planes in flight with highly detailed terrain that looks great even at low level, adding a new dimension to low level bombing runs.
There is a price to pay for this attention to detail in performance and you are going to need a well specified processor and graphics card to get the most from this game. It is recommend a Pentium 4 and GeForce 4 combination, or equivalent to get full satisfaction from this game. Anything less and you have to start compromising on the in game detail settings, or accept stuttering frame rates. There are 18 aircraft that you can fly in the game, plus many variant models, though there are some notable omissions. While you can happily take control of a Spitfire, Me-109, P51 Mustang, or Junkers 88, you won't come across a Flying Fortress anywhere in the game, which considering the theatre of operations seems strange. Criticisms aside, there is still plenty to enjoy. The flight models are excellent, especially when you switch on the realism settings, with each aircraft having distinct characteristics.
The missions are well thought out, as is the campaign system, which enables you to gain access to more aircraft as you progress and acquire skills, which can improve your tolerance to G-forces for example. Combat Flight Simulator 3 is a worthy addition to the genre. It has enough to keep long time flight-sim fans entertained and is also accessible enough for novices to pick up and play.--Jason Weston

A break from the Jets.......2007-12-08
I mainly play modern fighter and helo sims but every now and then I fancy a bit of WW2 dogfighting and blow the dust off CFS3. It is not the most hardcore sim but it looks nice enough and can provide a fair bit of fun from the viewpoint of a casual CFS pilot who just jumps in the cockpit and goes with minimum fuss or need to re-study the manuals.
Super game.......2007-10-06
I think this is a very good game and the reason it will stay on my hard drive is the amount of tweaking and customising you can do to it!
Lot of earlier reviews criticising bits and pieces within the game - well do something about it then! Go design a new aircraft, record or create a new sound to replace one you don't like, edit the panels, design your own missions, change the scenery, or the sky, or the theater. The list goes on and on...
Because that's what loads of other people have done and it is all available for free on the Internet. So if you can't do it yourself then someone else may have already made the modification already and it is only a couple of clicks away!
If you want more realistic flight sims well they are out there - but it's hard to beat creating your own mission, jumping into a new plane that wasn't in the stock install and flying off into the wild blue yonder all rockets/torpedoes/bombs/guns blazing!
As Unreal As It Gets.......2007-02-25
This is a most awful flight simulator I have ever seen! Enemy aircraft fly like bats out of hell but plyers aircraft fly like pigs.
The performance of the Spitfire and the Me 109 is partcularly bad.
When engaging enemy bombers you find that you are constantly out manouvered by them.It takes hundreds of rounds to shoot them down but one hit from a defending gunner is usually fatal to the player.
The constant AA barrage is ridiculous. I have been shot down while landing a British aircraft on a British airfield many times and I have even been hit by AA fire when taxying on the runway!
This product is not fit to be called a flight simulator.

The Good is the enemy of the Best........2006-11-06
Microsoft seem to be stuck in the decision to bring out a new flight sim and combat flight sim every 2 years. This time the previous version (CFS2) was better! What has changed (not necessarily improved) is that we are back at the end game of WW2 in western Europe (probably because of the success of main competitor Il-2) and focussing on the ground attack rather than air to air combat. All the planes are new, with some strange prototypes from all 3 nations forming the novelty basis. Seems the historical accuracy of the whole thging is blown apart by doing that, in a way that "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe" did a long long time ago.
Starting with rthe "sensible" planes, every nation gets their best fighters ereprsented. P-51's are in the "B" version and pleasantly rendered too, which is refreshing. Colours can also be somewhat adjusted. The usuall "D" version is also there, and the P-47 is probably the type that fits the scenario's best. The British are given Spitfire MkIX's, and a Typhoon and Tempest, with the strength of the outstanding "wooden wonder" Mosquito amply represented. Perhaps this is a mossie simulator after all? The Germans are givern the good old 109 and 190 combination, with Me-262's being the stars along with the Ju-88 in 2 versions, including the important fighter version wihich up until nowe has never been properly represented iun a flkight sim. Perhhaps for that alo0ne this is all wotrth it. Then come the bombers.
This latest thing is to be able to jump between the gunner/ bomb aimer position (in FS2002 you could literally slide into co-pilots seat!). Thius feature is under-used in CFS3 as their are only 3 planes (though each with different versions) that can use this. I was pleased that the B-26's are their, as again this type has not featured much or at all in previous sims. The gunner positions are well done, the turrets being the most satisfying, but all less that the best. Il-2 has better gunner positions, but NOT these planes!
All in all the ground scenery is such a step up, with almost as many trees to crash into as in war-time Europe. Water reflects its creators attention to detail too. Add-ons are there too, but not as common as for the previous CFS versions.
Gets shot down in flames by the competion........2006-09-05
The one saving grace of CFS3 is the extreeemly numerous add-ons freely available to download over the internet, such as new aircraft, terrain, missions. These can be found on numerous fan websites, which give the game a little more flexibilty than Ubisoft`s IL2.
In terms of quality though, IL2 and its stable- mates Pacific Fighters and Lock-On beat CFS3 hands down..and bear in mind, IL2 is a third of the price.
