very poor quality & shocking after sales service !.......2007-06-16
I Bought this thinking it would be upto the standard of the old bulb AA type, and for a while it was great - until it began to flicker and switch itself off ! I sent it back to the repair center & it came bact a week later and all seemed ok, but a week after back to the flickering again so back it went to the repair center. This time it was gone for a month ! when it came back same again, worked for a week and i'm back to square one again with a flickering useless maglite.
Oh and dont think Maglite hq in the usa are any help either.
Take my advice & get something else instead.

The right light.......2007-02-19
I've been progressively spending more and more time outdoors, and also trying to become a more ethically minded consumer. I purchased my first wind up torch early 2006, for a fiver i couldn't go far wrong. It had two light settings, a 5 minute wind would last about 15 minutes of light, plus it was just small enough to hold in my mouth. After an arduous trek in the Pyrenees in summer 2006, the little torch died.
So i decided to get another wind up torch, this time better quality, a bit of research came up with this. I managed to get mine new for £25, which is a bargain, i think RRP is £89. There are three light settings on this torch, i find the minimum setting is bright enough for just about all of my needs, it is amazingly efficient at providing light from hand winding, i think i get about 20-30 minutes of light for a five minute wind, but i may be winding more enthusiastically than most. The winding handle is especially large, which really makes a difference, and this torch comes with a mains adapter, apparently it's good to fully charge it every once in a while, but it's also handy to charge it up before a long bout of use. The torch is pretty light weight, 1lb exactly according to my kitchen scales, 453 grams, about the same as a smallish pot of jam. It's a very robust and well built torch, only real bad point is it's size, it's just that little bit two big to fit in my mouth, if this torch could be re-designed to fit in my mouth or have a head strap attachment i 'd give it 5 stars.
I have a few different torches for hiking, cycling, fishing, poking about in engines and i do really recommend wind up torches in general. A few reasons, they are battery torches of the same light output, a very modern idea and so use more efficient leds etc. can be charged anywhere, give a really good light for wind ratio.
Except for the so called 'torches' that can charge your mobile phone by hand power, they have no battery storrage and are basically a dynamo and an led, can be handy but only give light as they are being powered, which takes both hands and only leaves my mouth for the job in hand.

I love this, I have it attached to my handbag when going out and it survived Friday afternoon on the tube! I always know when I have a call, I also know if the person next to me has a call as it works over about 50cm, so it can go on my desk, phone in the bag on the floor and it flashes. I bought my mum the monkey one as she doesn't always hear her phone.

I got this for my partner for his phone but it hasn't got a loop hole on it. So unlucky for him,I get to keep it. First time my phone rang or even when you ring someone else, the dalek started spinning uncontrollably and the bright blue light flashed with it. I am well impressed, and everyone that has seen mine, want one! Everyone should have one. Great little gadget!
