Product Description
The EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM is the first true Macro lens in the EF-S series. A dynamic, compact, fast-focusing lens providing dramatic detail that goes beyond the human eye.
Up close
With its ability to focus life-size images onto the image sensor, the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM offers true macro performance in the EF-S lens series. Having an effective focal length of approximately 96mm in 35mm format, it produces breathtaking close-up results. A minimum focusing distance of just 20cm gets you super close to your subject, filling your frame only with the subject detail you require.
A world in miniature
The EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM works in harmony with EF-S mount EOS cameras to let you explore an exciting new photographic dimension. Nature photographers will delight in the ability to capture the intricate beauty of tiny features. With capacity to reproduce an image on the sensor that is as large as the subject itself, you take your audience inside a magnificent miniature world.
Background blur
Portrait photographers will enjoy working with the large aperture, which narrows depth of field and creates beautiful background blur, making your subject stand out with dramatic effect.
Travelling light
The EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM adds enormous versatility to your kit while adding little weight. Its near-silent Ultra Sonic Motor (USM) provides super-fast precision auto-focusing with full-time manual override.
Resolution and quality
Over 60 years of optical engineering heritage have gone into producing a lens that delivers exacting picture quality standards. Canon lens technologies combine to produce high corner-to-corner resolution, brightness, contrast and balanced colour reproduction, throughout all focusing distances.
Built for digital
Designed specifically for digital photography, the lens has specially shaped lens elements with Super Spectra coatings to suppress ghosting and flare, which can be caused by reflections off a digital camera sens

FAB! Buy one now!.......2007-06-30
This is a fantastic lens. I was originally looking at some other cheaper makes but so dam glad I parted with the extra money (which in truth was not that much more).
As the others write, the lens is Sharpe and very salient. A silly little thing which I really like is the fact you can have the autofocus setting on and still be able to manually help it a little without the usual horrible noise from the motor sounding like you're about to severely damage it. No idea if this is really allowed or not but seems not to damage it and allows me to get that required picture much faster.
In short, another happy owner of this lens. If you want to see some pics taken with it go to www.flickr.com/photos/marcoastesiano where you can see some quick snaps of some fruit and the best is the matches. Notice the detail. The 60mm allows you to be at a good distance to take them.
Great lens!!
Nearly Perfect!!.......2007-05-23
The EF-S 60mm macro lens is fantastic, I have been using it for 9 months now and am so glad I bought it. Pictures have a wonderful level of sharpness and detail and the bokeh (aesthetic quality of out of focus areas) is outstanding! My only critisicm is that after using it for a while I find myself wishing that I had spent more money and bought the EF 100mm Macro 2.8 as the workable range would have been much higher, allowing me to get closer whilst being further away. Also an EF lens is more future-proof as it can be used on cropped sensor (400d/20d etc.) AND full-frame cameras (5D etc.) Overall though the lens produces lovely pictures and gives you a different perspective to your photography!
Macro heaven for not much moolah!.......2006-12-09
I've had this lens a few days now and had the opportunity to do a few sessions with it and am very, very pleased with the results.
The lens feels solid and well built, heavy enough without being too much.
This lens has an EF-S mount so has been designed specifically with the Canon range of digital cameras in mind such as 300D, 350D and the new 400D which I currently have this lens hooked up to. The lens is not suitable for Canon's 1D and 5D but I'm guessing if you afford one of those you'll likely own the 180mm macro 'L' lens ;)
Auto focus is good and fast in good light and the lens length does not change during focusing. There is provision on the front to attach a ring flash for real close macro work too. There is a distance indicator scale on the lens barrel and also a full time manual focus ring. Excellent!
The results from the lens are simply stunning. Clarity is unbelievable from my 400D. Focal length equates to 96mm because of the 1.6x crop factor of the sensor allowing 1:1 size shots and boy do they show the detail!
The lens focuses as close as 9cm for the full 1:1 macro and whilst this is fine for inanimate objects it may be tricky to release the full potential of the lens if taking shots of wildlife such as small insects for example. This is where I think a remote control shutter release would be a godsend as you can set the camera up and step away to avoid disturbing your subject - that's next on my list!
I've not had the chance to use it as such yet but by all accounts the lens works very well as a portrait lens and I can see no reason to disbelieve what I've read on various forums. In fact it may even lose you a few friends as the lens is so sharp it shows up e-v-e-r-y detail! A bit of soft focus tinkering in Photoshop may be in order for human portrait shots!
Have a look on my flickr profile (brainleek007) at the shots of the workings of a pocketwatch if you're in any doubt as to the quality of the lens.
Very highly recommended and the Amazon price is around £[...] cheaper than well known high street photography stores.
Sharp enough to make your eyes bleed.......2006-05-01
I bought this lens along with my eos 350D( it doesnt work with normal eos cameras as it is EF-S). The lens is very well made and as it is USM is silent and fast when focussing, which by the way is entirely internal( ie there is no change in length of the lens when focusing). The pictures are very, very sharp and the bokeh is brillant. Try it out and see- i can assure you that you wont be disappointed. It is also relatively small. As there is a 1.6 magnification in canon digital is actually works out to be 96 mm macro. This lens is really worth it- the only detractors are people who also use the normal eos full frame cameras. It is an excellent macro and potrait lens. This should have been a L lens.

Panasonic DVD and 160GB Hard Drive Recorder__________________________
Customer Reviews:
Excellent bit of kit.......2008-01-18
After checking the reviews of other HDD recorders I opted for this model, arrived in a couple of days, set up in a less than 10mins, connected to my Panasonic LCD TV with an HDMI cable, great picture quality from the instant recording mode, only gripe at the moment is it is very slow during the warm up when it has been in stand by mode, would recommend the EX77 anytime.
SD compatable.......2008-01-12
I have a Pentax optio S7 camera with a Kingston 512 SD card formatted in the camera but when I insert the SD card into my Panasonic recorder DMR-EX77EB it says unsupport and on tv screen it say incompatible. The SD card works ok in the camera.Anyone had any problems like this.
What good value.......2008-01-11
This DVD recorder is superb. We have found the picture quality is better from a recording onto the HDD than the actual picture on the tv.
In answer to one of the reviewers that you cannot see the channel number while recording, all you have to do is to switch the unit on while it is recording and you will see the information you need, even an elapsed time counter. This does not interfere with the recording.
Another review stated that you cannot record one digital channel whilst watching another. This is untrue. Because we have both a digital tv and a digital recorder, you can do it. We tried it and it worked.
I would highly recommend this dvd recorder.
Widescreen/narrow screen format problems.......2008-01-07
I bought this unit a few weeks ago. It turned up next day and worked (mostly) without any problems. Set up is easy. Recording to DVD can produce some strange results particularly if you want to watch the DVDs on a computer, but a consistent and sensible solution was found.
My only problem is that the television does not automatically switch between 4:3 and 16:9 formats with this unit. It does with my older freeview box. Recordings played back from the hard drive do switch automatically even if the delay between recording and playback is only a minute or so (ie playing back while recording)
An email to Panasonic technical support has not been answered in two weeks. A call to Panasonic UK customer support advised that this is a known issue but of course it is not the Panasonic DVD recorder that is the problem even though the television switches automatically with a Thomson freeview box. Panasonic suggest that you need to manually adjust the television each time the format being received changes.
Apart from that - amazing.
Excellent.......2007-12-29
This is a pure delight to use and the picture quality in SP mode is superb. Recording is easy either to DVD or HDD and it's pretty simple to navigate through the HDD once you've recorded a lot of programmes. The only negative for me so far is that you can't see the programme number you are recording once timed recording has started. The unit was delivered via the Home Delivery Service a few days after I ordered it and arrived on the Amazon estimated delivery date. Highly recommended.

Real freedom of framing in a lightweight compact and fast-focusing lens. The EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM is an excellent all-purpose lens for EF-S mount EOS cameras.
Customer Reviews:
Superb.......2007-12-22
Despite it arriving late (due to the delivery company rather than Amazon directly), it was certainly worth the wait. The pictures I have captured already are superb considering they have all been taken indoors so far and definately out-perform the standard 18-55mm lens you now get with the eos 400D (the body I am currently using). I have waited a year to buy a replacement for my handy 17-55mm, looking around at all the different options but am glad I stuck with this one! The 17-55mm USM looks too large for my likeing and the cheapest L series version is far too expensive for my budget to allow (even if it is only around £100 more!) However, after reading several magazine reviews I came to learn that this lens is the best all-rounder and cheapest out of the three. Perfect. The Ultra Sonic Motor (USM) is excellant compared to my rather clumsy non-USM 75-300mm zoom lens, which I bought earlier on in the year, and the focusing system has only let me down on the one occasion when experimenting in a very dark hallway (which is to be expected). The IS is astounding and makes a huge difference to your images, meaning that 1/60secs is no longer the most sensible setting for handheld shots!
The only downpoint I have found to be associated with this lens is that you have to buy the unique hood seperately and from a seperate seller (meaning that you cannot expect it all to arrive at the same time/get super saver delivery included) whilst also at additional cost, althouh it is well worth the extra money as it is not only very effective but also helps you, to a certain extent, to forget that three hundred and fifty odd pounds on a new lens, plus however much more for a new filter has just been spent!
Be aware, the lens is a lot larger than the standard zoom so ensure that you have checked it will fit into your kit bag whilst attached to the body before purchasing one!
I now have a super-quality, reliable, fast and accurate focusing lens just in time for Christmas, which will hopefully last for years to come!
Please note: This lens will not work with full-body sensors becasue it is "efs" rather than "ef" (i.e. if you have a Canon eos 5D, 1D/s Mark 2/3 etc. the lens will not work) - a point to bear in mind if you think you will ever consider upgrading (although you could just use the upgrade as a second body to your existing camera and set of lenses; if you can afford it!)
Gives Photography another Dimension.......2007-04-16
I bought this lens as part of the kit, with a Canon EOS 30D last May, now almost a year later I feel I know both the camera and the lens well. The focal range of this lens is perfect for so much - from photography people to nature it is the perfect walk about lens. Added to the fact that it has Image Stabilisation, it seems to give the whole process of photography another dimension. I have recently taken a load of pics at a nephew's wedding, taken both inside and out, with and without flash (Canon 430EX - which incidently is amazing too) using RAW, and must say that even I, who is so critical of his own work, think they are far better than anything I ever took on my old SLR. The quality of the lens is great and cannot really be faulted.
Yes the lens is a little on the heavy side, but quality counts especially when you only get one chance of a photo, like weddings, kids, sunsets etc. I would love to be able to afford an 'L' lens, something I will save for, but until then, this lens will continue to be my trusty walk about.
My advice is simple, if you want a quality lens for every day use, with good zoom and IS, then look no further. If you are buying a new DSLR, like the canon EOS 350D, 400D or 30D, then don't even consider anything other than this lens, so long as you can stretch to it - believe me, you will not be disappointed. I love it.
A good lens for general purposes..........2007-03-10
I think this lens is good enough for many dSLR users. It suits anyone who love taking lanscape pics. IS helps a lot. However, its maximum aperture is 4 so you're rarely able to freeze a moving object.(except that you hv a plenty of light) IS doesnt matter to do this. Although it cannot compare with L-series lenses, do you actually need that quality? Overall....it's very good for many situations and for traveling.
Excellent all-purpose leans with image stabilazer........2007-03-05
I bought this fantastic lens a few months ago and since then it's been 70% of the time mounted in my Canon 400D. The IS is just great!!
An excellent lens for outdoor photography.......2007-01-17
This lens is the perfect compliment to any Canon digital camera. Its a little on the expensive side, and it is definitely not small, but it produces brilliant images, has a great zoom and focal range and the autofocus is wonderfully quiet. The image stabilisation works quite well in many situations, but most of the time isn't a completely foolproof alternative to a tripod of course.
