the above device gives you everything that you... however yes their is a problem with the PPPoA. somehow it just does not recognise this configuration on my comp either. however all set aside the device is magnificent. my reinds house is around 75 meters away from mine and still i get a connection =) ..... good buy and easy to set up even for the first time buyers.
you do need to make sure however that you have a descent adapter if your going wireless... thats probably why some of you are having trouble receiving through walls.... hmmm somehow i find odd with having 6 walls and still letting me in with a 300mbg transfer rate.

Oh this is great if you set it up right next to your computer but the range of this is really really poor. Basically, you can get a great transfer rate but if you got more than one wall between your computer and the router forget it.
My computer is within 10m of this thing and the range sucks. I went back to my trusty Linksys - I might only get 54mbps but at least I get a signal.
If you still want to buy this junk then look out for mine on e-bay/Amazon as soon as I finish packing it up.

Set up: Its simply a case of plugging it in and running the setup CD. Even with my forgetting to turn the modem off and on again the whole thing was up and running in no more than 5 minutes.
Ease of use: I've yet to explore the settings in full but suffice to say they are what you would expect from a £100 router. I was quite happy to find this is the first router ive ever used that didnt require some kind of tweaking to open any ports to use with bitorrent.
Performance: This is the DIR655's trump card. I bought it because CNET and Tom's Hardware reckoned it to be the fastest 802.11n router they'd ever tested and it supports more multiple connections than any other home router too [i.e it wont overheat/crash if you use torrents]. So far i have been seeing wireless download speeds between 5 and 10 times faster than my old Belkin 54g could muster. Coupled with a Netgear WN311T PCI adapter it sits happily connected at between 250mb and 300mb with about 20m and 2 walls to pass through, and will easily match wired transfer speeds on my 20mb cable connection.
Dont be alarmed by the reviewer's poor rating below me. This is a wireless router, NOT a wireless modem router and it says nowhere in its description that it is. So long as you understand what you are getting you wont be disappointed.

Be warned, that this router is unlikey to work with standard DSL connections and is only meant for cable connections (such as Virgin). It does not support PPPoA WAN connection (only PPPoE) which means that if you have a DSL conection then you will be unlikely to be able to use this router.

With Virgin Media upgrading their broadband service to 20mbit my old Linksys BEFSR41 was in need of replacement!
The Linksys unit only has a 10mbit Internet port (the LAN side being 100mbit), even so I could only max 6mbit Internet to LAN (WAN to LAN). Take a close look at any router you have in mind for speeds over 10mbit Internet, most of the reviews I found in this price range show that on the bench they don't perform.
After much searching I found a review of the DIR-655, I didn't want wireless but for the price it does exactly what I need, that being:
Gigabit LAN ports (ignore the outer packaging which claims 10/100!?!)
A Gigabit WAN port (for when we go 100+)
Dual firewalls, SPI and NAT
Other features included something about 300mbit wireless if you like that sort of thing, I'm not using it currently but all the right options are there WPA etc. Configuration was easy (on XP) the provided CD does the basics for you and it's up and working, I would recommend reviewing the settings afterward as it does not set admin passwords etc.
In summary a good buy, I'm maxing out my 20mbit connection with the firewall functions enabled. The build quality is excellent and there are more advanced functions than I'll every use.

An Adaptor That WORKS With VISTA!!.......2007-10-11
Had this product for a few days now, brilliant compared to the Belkin one I had before. Belkin did supply Vista drivers but the thing didn't work that's for sure, it gave about 2 bars signal.
This D-Link is in a different league, Plug in, looks for drivers and installs automatically, then once your connected Windows update supplies the latest drivers which actually work! No worries at all for a change!
Still working, full signal, couldn't ask for anything more! WELL DONE D-Link!
Problems with installation.......2007-10-07
I set this item up and it worked straight away. Next time I used it I put it in a different USB port and it did not work. Tried all options of USB port and removing and reloading drivers. Finally changed the wireless router settings to transmit SSID, restrict it to g standard only and use wpa-psk only instead of wpa-psk/wpa2-psk. This fixed the problems. This problem may be due to using devices by different manufacturers. The router is by Netgear.

Good when it works BUT..........2007-05-31
Bought this along with a D-Link DSL-G604T router. I've given DWL-G122 adaptor two stars as it is a really good product when it works but D-Links support is awful. I have had this product for just over a year and I do take care of my computer items.
The positive: It worked well with my laptop for the first 4 months - easy to install, picked up a good connection in the house and had no clashes with XP.
The negative: However, it just stopped working my computer and any other laptop refused to see it when connected. I have since spent many hours on the phone to D-Link with each call I have to repeat the same procedure with my computer which takes considerable time and then they send me to their FTP to download new drivers and it doesn't work I have to go on and do it all again 6 months later I'm binning a faulty adaptor nothing to do with drivers!
The verdict: If it works and you've got some computer software knowledge to fix any problems yourself I think this product would be superb but if you might need support, in my experience, don't touch D-Link.

I have given this thing 3 months or so tried everything been threw terminal, installed uninstalled rebooted added drivers deleted drivers etc. so far the closets i have goten to getting this thing to work is setting up a static IP to my router with no protection just on the LAN. as soon as i add wep it dies as soon as i try to connect t to the internet it dies. shop around see what els is available to you dont buy this.

Doesn't work with MAC.......2007-10-18
I've had two USB wireless adaptors for my router now. The first one wouldn't support MAC at all (no software on the CD-ROM and D-LINK's support line told me so as well). I just bought an upgraded adaptor because it said clearly on the box that it supported MAC OS 10.4.x. It didn't work. The CD-ROM now had software for OS 10.4 but .... NOTHING. More hours of my life wasted on the phone to D-LINK's support team who finally told me that it only works with up to OS 10.4.8. I have 10.4.10 so hard luck to me. I pointed out their trading stanadrds violation and they offered to refund me on the spot. I take my hat off the KarenF. How she got hers to work, I'll never know. Maybe she has an earlier version of the MAC OS. Avoid this hardware.
D-Link DSL-924.......2007-10-06
I received this package from my new ISP when I switched (a remarkably painless process) and have not used (nor will I) the wireless adaptor so I cannot comment on this apart from the fact that it appears a bit fragile.
When I tried to connect to the internet with the router, following the ISPs instuctions to the letter, every attempt failed miserably. I phoned the ISPs help desk and they led me through numerous possible fault finding paths with no success whatsoever. So in desperation I decided to try a Netgear router which I had purchase from Amazon for our second home in Spain and bingo I was up and running in less than 15mins. This proved to me that the brand new D-Link router was faulty. My ISP agreed and sent a replacement (identical) in the next post. This unit worked perfectly, was reasonably easy to set up and seems pretty fast. However the wireless performance is not impressive at all, loosing signal strenth quite rapidly as you move even a couple of rooms away from the router. Also, as with the wireless adapter, it seems pretty tinny and will not, I am sure, survive many knocks or drops. I will avoid D-Link equipment in future.
Not Happy with D-Link.......2007-10-01
I purchased this item in January this year (2007) and when I got it it was wonderful and worked great, was easy to use etc, around April time the wireless kept going off and on and the internet connection kept going off as well (i connected another router which worked so my internet connection was fine) then in June it stopped working completely and would not reset! Two of the lights remained constantly on and the others did not come on at all and the reset would not do anything. I contacted D-LINK several times by email and through their support site and got no reply (its now October and i still haven't heard anything!) I also tried calling the support number, which costs a fortune and was constantly on hold or talking to people who could not speak English or help me in anyway. Seems their guarantee does not mean anything!
I've been told D-LINK is a very good company and generally has no problems and has a good customer support, but I am not happy and do not think I'll ever buy anything D-LINK again.
Works great with Intel Mac.......2007-07-02
This modem and wireless router worked great with my intel laptop running OSx 10.4. Absolutely no glitches in the 6 months I've used this so far. The setup was straightforward and I just followed the instructions, although they do seem to be written by a windows person!
I did not use the Wireless G USB adaptor, but it seems like a clever way to render a USB printer wireless and is a bonus included in this kit. In addition to wireless connectivity, the router has 4 ethernet ports and comes with an ethernet cable.
Easy set up and easy to use.......2007-03-29
I have received the DLink DSL-924T today and managed to set it up in 5 minutes. Some people are complaining about having problems and claim they only managed to do it using it as a wired router first then setting up the wireless. To be honest if you read the instructions it does actually direct you to do this.
I was dreading setting up the system but to be honest it was needless as set up was complete within roughly 10 minutes. The first attempt for some reason the connection timed out when trying to connect with the ISP but second time managed it flawlessly.
The admin panel for the router is the only thing in my opinion that lets it down. The admin panel is not exactly overwhelmed with features nor is it the most eye catching of user interfaces but it is easy to use and functional.
I would highly recommend this router.

Good speed but problems with VPN access & WPA2.......2008-01-10
I'd recommend this wireless router in terms of speed. However, I am not happy that I could get my office VPN to work (even with the router VPN option activated). I also struggled to get WPA2 security working. As a IT security-phile - that's two strikes down. I couldn't easily find information on any website about how to set this up.
My recommendation, if VPN or other security tools are what you require, make sure you test your router before buying to avoid disappointment.

This modem does what I wanted it do - that is, pass my public IP address to an integrated services router. All well and good, connection seems stable, and my network works as it should. However, using the ISP's suggested settings, wired to the same phone extension, with the same microfilter, and with no degradation in line stats in the interim this modem synchs at least 1mbps slower than the Linksys gateway I used prior to setting up my home office. Therefore, if speed is really important to you I'd suggest you look elsewhere for an ADSL modem, based on my experience.

Seeing how hard it is to find ADSL modems with routers nowadays, this was an excellent find. Took me literally 5 minutes to set up with the onboard wizard, and is running flawlessly. Great Item.
Annoying line drop problems.......2006-12-30
Bought this modem a few months ago because I needed an ethernet modem for my new wireless router. However, although the speed was faster than my previous Speedtouch 330 modem from Wanadoo, the line dropped too many times.
The setup is reasonably easy though a web browser although when you click save to save settings, these are often lost and you need to click save and restart which is frustrating. The defaults are usually correct for most users apart from AOL users who must use PPoE rather than PPoA which is used by other ADSL ISPs.
Firmware updates must be installed manually rather than the modem searching for the latest firmware automatically.
The features are fairly impressive but I would recommend that you find another ADSL ethernet modem which is not from D-Link as connection cut offs are very frustrating especially is you are using Instant Messaging or loading a page at the time it cuts off!

This modem is ideal for an ADSL connection where you want to pass control of the connection to a business router. This is often the case when the business router has two WAN ports.
The modem establishes the ADSL carrier and the Router passes the Login information over the ethernet port to validate the connection.
You must save your settings to the device otherwise the device will revert to the previous configuration on power outage.
Worst DSL Modem Ever.......2006-10-15
This is a very bad piece of equipment, my company has purchased 2 and they have the same problems.
1)Does not keep settings after a power outage
2)Does not work in "Bridged Mode"
3)Does not include a router. As modem/routers are avaible for less then it seems a waste of money
4)Poor GUI

This is a really nice streamer for viewing videos, photographs and listening to music on your TV. I got the wireless set-up working in no time.
The only downside is that in order to share media with the box, you need to run the DivX Connected software on a PC. This is a pain for me as my media is stored on a Win2003 box and DivX Connected will only install on WinXP or Vista. Not good!
Aside from that minor quibble, the box is really stable and works well at 1080i on my Sony HD-Ready 40" LCD. The interface is a breeze to use and the possibility of customisation by adding plug-ins looks really good.

Admittedly this is my first review but I was so impressed with this little gadget that I felt very strongly about writing something. First, some background.
Following a conversation with a friend, I started looking for a wireless media device that would enable me to listen to my music in the lounge from my computer located in another room. This initially led me to the Logitech Squeezebox (I even placed it in my Basket) but then I came across the D-Link DSM-330 and realised that for a little less, I would be able to get something that could also transmit videos and pictures! I read some of the reviews on Amazon and others on the web and my mind was made up!
I ordered the DSM-330 on Saturday and it promptly arrived on Tuesday. No joke: I too was all set up within 20 minutes! Dead easy and very straightforward. Granted it is only Wednesday but so far I am really impressed.
In short, if you are looking for something that will enable you to view your videos, photos and listen to your music all stored on your computer from the comfort of your living room, this is well worth considering!

Great little box... Set it up within 20 minutes and now works like a dream. Was going to use the RJ45 to connect to my network but the wireless works so well I may not bother. Plenty of support online and looks like there is more plug-in services to come (The google maps plug is great). All cables required in the box. Shame it doesn't have a built in HDD so you could record.. but really, for the money its a real bargin in my book. Buy it!!!
Media Streaming Comes of Age.......2007-12-22
Superb, simple and growing support.
Worked straight out of the box. Minor glitch when it upgraded itself but a quick email to the DIVX Connected forum and a revised upgrade was provided that solved the minor problem.
This is going to be BIG as people write plugins to extend flexibility
A great buy and highly recommended if you have a bit of PC understanding.
not what i was expecting.......2007-12-21
the problem i have with this device, is that EVERYTHING goes through the server on the PC. In the manual, it says that if the display on your TV is slow or choppy, to update the graphics card on your pc?!?!?!?! i haven't had a real good play with it just yet, and yes, most of my files on the pc work fine, but the one real bugbear i have, is that the USB port on the front doesn't work. You plug it in (with divx files on it) and... nothing, nothing appears in the menu's or on the server. And also, there is not even a mention of it in the manual.
In conclusion, i say roll on the 3rd party firmware!!! Failing that, a drastic update to this okay'ish media streamer, as it most certainly has the potential.
p.s. 4:3 is the only aspect ratio you can have for an SDTV with this device :(

I bought this router on the strength of the 1 review that existed and I was not disappointed. It was easy to set up and runs really quickly. I bought 2 D-Link DWA-140 wireless mini adapters at the same time and they were even easier to set up and also work really well even though they are some distance away from the router. The router is not the cheapest by any manner of means but it works very well and I thought it was worth the premium on the price to be able to get it up and running without problems and for the improved speed it gives.

i thought it would never reach my room in my house as it has really thick walls. But it did. The signal never drops it is very very fast and the best router money can buy and for xbox 360 it doesnt lag if you want a router that works buy this one it cant fail and took me 45 mins to set up to thank you amazon
D-LINK DKT 810.......2007-11-18
I bought this router after a lot of hassle with a NETGEAR DG 834N . Took less than as hour to set up router, usb adaptor, and security.
It has run absolutely fautless and i would recommend to anyone, my pc is about 20 metres from the router and i get full signal at 270 Mbps constant.
My kids stream video all the time and it is a mile better than Netgear dg834n which the sound used to break up frequently.
The only thing i would say is when i bought it in late october 07 i paid £106.87 and i now see its £155.
£155 is a lot of money for a router and adaptor but it does work and if you think its worth that amount of cash thats up to you, i would probably look at Belkin n1 or simalar product.
All in all an excellent product although now expensive.

Operation Range Extension
Repeater signals are provided when the DWL-G710 is deployed in conjunction with a wireless router or access point. It can receive signals from router or access point up to 100 meters away, then re-broadcasts the signals to wireless clients beyond the edge of the original network. Range extension of up to 50% of the original network on a 2.4GHz frequency band.

It does what it says on the box, but..........2007-05-25
Eventually I've got this to work and it's now repeating a signal from an old D-Link DWL1000AP all over the house. But be warned
(a) It is not as easy to set up as D-Link claim, and
(b) By and large, their technical support are really dreadful.
The whole trick is to gear your DWL-G710 to the slowest component on your LAN. If you set the transmission rate to 'auto' and expect it to find the best rate itself, you're in for a very frustrating time. I found this out the hard way and it's only when I set the Tx rate to 11mbps that it all came together.
Essentially, the configuration is quite easy. You need to connect the G710 via the cable provided to a laptop, but you have to assign a static IP address close to the repeater's - such as 192.168.0.26
Once you access the router, you enter your router's gateway address, set the Tx rate to whatever value and let the router search for your network. Assignation of SSID is automatic from there.
One other point - although my wife's PC showed the signal strength as strong, it kept dropping and pinging was showing a loss. Cured by replacing the existing antenna on the G710 with a high gain dipole (plenty available on Ebay)
Bear all this in mind and there's no question the repeater certainly does the job.
Difficult to set up with non-DLink equipment.......2006-12-27
I managed to get this range extender to extend a Netgear router, with or without WEP security. The only way to make it work was to change the Tx speed setting on the DLink extender down to 2Mbps.
I was trying to extend to a laptop on the edge of my router's reception. This product was little use, I couldn't find anywhere between the router and the laptop which had a good signal to both.
Also, on non-DLink products, there is no documented way (and no way that I could find) to tell the strength/quality of the connection between the range extender and the router (only between the range extender and the laptop). You have to guess.
Not really recommended for use with a non-DLink set-up - maybe generally best not to mix-and-match wireless products from different vendors? I'm not sure.
