You get what you pay for.......2007-03-26
We wanted a small but widescreen set for the bedroom and this Toshiba fitted the bill perfectly. It is neat and compact (despite being 16:9 format) with uncluttered styling. The picture is sharp and vibrant whether from the built in Freeview or our Sky feed. The sound has a wide range of options e.g. equaliser settings etc. and a clarity that belies the size of the set. Initially I thought this to be an expensive TV but it reeks quality in both construction and performance - you get what you pay for. If I had to "nit pick" some of the menus are a bit small and when switched off it remains in stand by unless you switch off at the mains. Overall, I could not find a better quality 20" widescreen set unless I spent considerably more with a diminishing return on improvement over this Toshiba. In my view (and that of a number of home entertainment magazines) it is a class leader and therefore unreservedly recommended.
Nice little machine.......2007-03-25
This is a nicely put together, neat unit, and everything seems to be in their right places. But where's the power on/off switch?! Performance seems good, although the default (contrast, colour etc) settings probably don't do it justice. There are a good number of sockets behind the back; however the cover for these sockets becomes obsolete when you plug something in. What's the point in having a cover if you can't use it?
I double mine as a larger PC monitor from my 12 inch laptop screen and works rather well. Set up and usage is very easy and has a good number of features, such as Picture in Picture, Freeview, auto-tuning, reception quality, etc.
After over a year since its release, this model is still selling and holding its price. If it was fully HD compatible I would give it 5 stars for its price.

Excellent Value IDTV.......2007-03-07
This is a very good TV for the price, picture quality is excellent and auto-tuning made initial setup a piece of cake. Overall one of the best value IDTVs around (why are people still selling analogue-only TVs when they start turning off the analogue signal next year?? Does anyone still want to buy them?? Also, why do IDTVs cost hundreds more than analogue equivalents, when you can get a freeview box for less than £[...]?? Are these 2 facts connected?? Don't get me started!!).
Only two criticisms: the default colour setting is far too washed-out, almost black-and-white. I've found this to be a common criticism of other TVs in the past, so not unique to this model. You can use the TV settings to adjust the colour to an acceptable level, but then you lose the setting should you unplug the set for any reason.
Secondly, I bought this as a TV set for the bedroom, so it's often used with wireless headphones (don't want to disturb the trouble and strife in her slumbers). When I first connected the headphones, they worked OK, but the main TV speakers didn't mute. I checked the owner's manual, and sure enough, it stated that the TV speakers should mute when you insert the headphone jack. So I thought I had a faulty set, and contacted Toshiba customer services. They told me however that the owner's manual is WRONG on this point: the TV speakers are not intended to mute when you connect the headphones, because apparently they've had numerous requests from the hard-of-hearing, to allow the use of headphones whilst the main TV speakers stay audible for other users. I've not come across this system before. It's workable because there is a setting to adjust the headphone volume independently from the main speaker volume. Thus the correct procedure if you don't want to disturb your sleeping partner is to connect the headphones then simply turn the main speaker volume down to zero!

To expand upon one of Sambadrummer's comments and praise the TV further:
The power cannot be turned off at the TV because the power supply is an external brick adaptor. You must turn off power to this to stop the TV consuming power in standby.
The software is, indeed, good. I was particularly impressed by the icon on the screen advising you of the signal strength of the channel to which you've just tuned, which can be very informing in areas of marginal signal coverage. It's the details that make this TV so good.
I was very impressed with the sound from the set, which was not powerful and bassy, but clear and natural. It maintained the clarity over the full volume range without becoming harsh, which is enough to make it audible in large rooms, even from such a small set.
I don't know how Toshiba have managed to set such a reasonable price on this TV compared to the competition. If only all manufacturers were this enlightened.
