I nearly sent this TV back to Amazon.......2008-01-15
I bought this TV a couple of months ago but have held off reviewing it until my issues with it were resolved. The TV arrived fairly quickly and it certainly looks good. The colours are great and it's really easy to use - but my issue was over the picture quality.
I can't easily describe the problem I was having. Non-HD souces such as ordinary DVD's and TV did not produce a particularly great image quality. This I suppose wasn't a huge surprise but did disappoint. The biggest issue seeing dark, coloured or textured areas of the screen moving in the opposite direction to the movement of the camera - especially on shots with hand held cameras. It was very odd and very off-putting. I contacted Sony, who were very good but had no idea what I was referring to, and neither did my local Sony Centre.
Amazon were good and said they were prepared to refund me if I returned the TV. However, I dragged my heels over this as it's just such a pain to return such a large item and be without a TV until I bought another one (I had got rid of my previois TV by this point).
Then my old Sony DVD recorder started to misbehave, so I bought a Sony RDRGX350B DVD Recorder with upscaling. I also bought an HDMI cable to attach the DVD player to the TV - and this has solved my problem!! The wonky imaging has gone and there is a definite difference in DVD image quality - Disney's Cars looks so good, it's hard to imagine how true HD DVD could improve upon it!!!
I now really like this TV and would recommend it, good for the price, great colours and looks great when using an HD-like source. The last thing I need to do now is actually try a proper HD source!
Absolutely Brilliant!!!!.......2008-01-12
Bought this TV at Christmas - the picture is absolutely brilliant and so is the sound quality. I turned up the volume to max and there was no distortion at all. Linked up to my Sony Home Theatre System - no need to go to the cinema ever again.
The set up, as mentioned in previous review, is so simple - it does it all for you when you first switch it on.
Bought from Argos for £499 - can't go wrong. If you want to become future proofed, this is the TV to get - even includes built in Freeview, HDMI sockets, Blu Ray socket - the works!!!!
Great TV Bargain Price.......2008-01-10
Bought this TV because it was a Sony TV for Polaroid Prices, didn't if from here though bought it for the same £599 from John Lewis's and got a free 5 year warranty thrown in. If you are hung up on price Argos had it on sale at £499 but stock went quicker than free iPods.
This TV has Sony Classic looks that shouldn't go out of fashion quickly (unlike my previous and relegated to another room Samsung) so from a looks point of view this is a future proof set.
Connection wise you are limited to only 2 HDMIs this means it'll cope with a Set Top Box and a HD player of some kind this wouldn't allow the possibility of adding future devices such as HD Media streamers or the current bunch of consoles (then again consoles can be used as streamers HD players and Games consoles all in a oner). Scarts and other inputs can be found so most current needs should be met.
Userability is always good with Sony Products, the flexibility of set up when compared to my Samsung is noticeable. It is not a heavy set and wall mounting is quite easy, although you need a rather hefty bracket because of the spacing of the Versa holes on the back.
Picture wise this TV is great it's got the standard Bravia engine, this makes for a much livelier picture than my previous set, the only bug bear I have is when you watch a low quality input, one of the lower down digital channel on Sky, I consider this to be a big TV so any shabbyness in pictures is highlighted.
Overall, a nice TV and at the price you can get it (including Amazons original price) it is a real bargain, you don't get all the special Sony Gizmos and picture enhancements but you do get the important ones. I'm going to give this a 5 star rating but that is based on a 600 quid TV of course a TV that costs a grand will be better but then you'll pay more for it,
cheaper at currys .......2007-12-27
I had been searching for a HD lcd 37inch for a long while and finally choose this fantasic bit of kit. I am very loyal Amazon customer and have not in till now found a better price on any product but I am sorry to say i picked this T.V up for £599.99 in Currys all be it in their sale. I have had it now for over a week and have found it to be very bit as cool as it looks. To the person who write in their review that they can not use the remote control for 2 mins after turning on I would say you may have a fault or signal problems as this is not the case with mine.
