Slightly Disappointing.......2008-01-27
I watch a lot of movies and I bought this set because I thought it would be the best match for my HD-DVD player.
Apart from being larger, I found the picture clarity no better when playing HD-DVD's than my old 27" HD-TV (which downscaled the 1080i input to 720p). Even after putting the pixel suppression and noise reduction to maximum there is still a degree of pixelisation particularly on grey skies. I have spoken to Toshiba and they advise purchasing their new 1080p player but after paying £440 12 months ago for their 1080i version, I feel they should be offering a software upgrade the same as they did for the HD-XE1.
As for the TV picture, Freeview is OK but not as good as my old set, possibly because it is a larger screen and everything is magnified. Analogue TV is terrible, but as there is no need to watch analogue it doesn't really matter.
It all could be down to viewing distance. If the TV was in the lounge with a normal viewing distance it would be perfect but I am only about 2m from the screen in my 'viewing room' and at about 3m (when I stand in the kitchen)the picture appears decidedly better. Unfortunately no-one seems to be making a 32" 1080p TV and that would have been the ideal size for where it is situated.
Having said all that, a colleague with a normal 37" HD ready set thinks the picture is fantastic on HD-DVD & Freeview and my 3 boys, who all have 32" HD tv's in their rooms for their X-Boxes and NTL HD on one of them, think it is fantastic.
I told my wife I had ordered the set about 5 minutes before it arrived. She was not happy and told me it had to go back but even she now grudgingly admits (to the boys) that QVC jewellry and craft looks better.
To sum it up, you need at least 3m between you and the screen and, if you do want to see movies in true HD then get a 1080p player
In love with this TV.......2008-01-11
I got this TV for Christmas and I am extrememly pleased with it. I have the PS3 and a Xbox 360 and wanted a 1080p HD TV to take my gaming experience to the next level.
TV - The TV itself is a fantastic size and 37" is just right for my living room, it's not too large but nowhere near too small. It looks stylish with the stand and I was surprised at how light the TV is. Setup was very easy, was ready within a few minutes and everything was automatic. The freeview looks amazing. Picture is so colourful and sharp and easy to adjust. This TV really has great colour and that will be one of the things you notice, they are bright and vibrant and look amazing.
PS3 - The PS3 in 1080p is crystal clear and smooth, a perfect picture. Connection with a HDMI cable is so simple and the picture in full HD is astonishing. Blu-ray movies look out of this world and PS3 blu-ray games are just truly remarkable. I'm on my PS3 alot so I'm really happy with the picture quality and it's made my games come to life.
Xbox 360 - It looks much better in 1080p that SD but the picture can sometimes look slightly washed out and I notice lots of jaggies and textures that look low res in games. I think this may be a matter of certain games rather than the 360 but it's not as good as the PS3 which seems to run perfectly with this TV.
This is a fantastic TV with great picture, full HD and a decent 37" screen which will look great and give you a fantastic picture. Works really well if you have a Playstation 3.
Super duper.......2007-12-27
What a fab TV - bought in the shop at 11am - old TV moved out new one put in set up and watching by 1pm. This includes the drive home and dusting of course. Beautiful picture - excellent sound - simple to set up - would definitely recommend. High street has this on offer at the moment - got the TV and the stand for £750. Bargain.

Nearly a good TV.......2007-12-20
I Purchased this TV for various reasons, one of them being it's 24 frames per second compatibility (intended to remove motion judder from blu ray playback etc.) and was therefore extremely disappointed to notice clearly evident motion judder on any "panning" scene, i phoned Toshiba with regard to this and they admitted that this set isn't "fully 24fps compatible", their stance was that it was capable of 24fps processing but it isn't fully 24fps compatible because it doesn't feature 5:5 pulldown (which their new Z Series does), therefore it can process 24fps but essentially doesn't do anything effective with it hence the dreaded motion judder is evident. Having said that the TV does have many plus points and i was particularly impressed by it's sound capabilities, but as i was particularly looking for a set that eliminated motion judder i was left disappointed and returned this set for a refund. If motion judder on blu ray/hd DVD playback doesn't overly concern you, you may think this is a good TV.

Top Quality LCD For The Price!.......2008-01-20
Purchased this Tv from Amazon at the start of the month and have been very impressed with it so far.
I use it connected to a V+ box and the picture is amazing with no judder. It was really easy to connect everything up and has audio outputs that can be connected easily to your hifi if your just happy with a boost in sound rather than 5.1 cinema.
My only issue is a common feature here and that is delivery service.
I paid for first class delivery with an expected delivery by the end of the week having ordered it sat night. I was happy with this as it was New Year week and I realised there would be a couple of days with no
deliveries
When I tried to track the item in my order I then discovered that Amazon had changed the date to the following week, an issue that I am finding more and more common. The TV was supposedly in HDN's hand on thur morning however it was not until fri evening that i received a call to say it would be delivered mon morning between 10.30 and 2.30pm. It was actually delivered around 9am (luckily my wife had the whole day off). The delivery men themselves were very pleasant and put it exactly where we wanted and I did receive a call later that day asking if the delivery had gone OK.
Once again I would recommend this telly to everyone hovever Amazon need to address their delivery procedures otherwise I feel people will start to look elsewhere.
Top of the range tv at a very good price.......2008-01-14
Ordered this set back in early December when Amazon originally reduced the price.
I must say like most oter reviewers here I am extremely happy with the product.
SD images is great on most channels, it does suffer a bit on digital channels with poor bitrates but thats to be expected as all sets do.
The picture through the XBOX 360 IN HD and BBCHD is something to behold. If your thinking of getting this set, I can't recommend it hightly enough.
Yes the remore is a bit slow, but if you have sky or Virgin you hardly use the tv remote anyway, only for switching between external inputs so it's hardly an issue. If you are using the on board freeview decoder then I can imagine it would be a a pain, but apparntly if you ring up Toshiba they'll send you a different model remote which solves this problem.
Excellent TV For A Great Price.......2008-01-12
This TV has an excellent picture, very sharp and clear which can be easily refined to your personal tastes using the menu.
The Freeview setup is quick and the information given on the EPG is great, much better than a lot of Freeview boxes give you.
I have read reviews that say the TV is slow to respond to the remote but I haven't found that at all. There are also reviews which say the black isn't deep and tends to a grey, but again I haven't found that - perhaps on programming which is very dark - Bladerunner for instance - it's not as strong as a regular tube TV, but it didn't trouble me. The sound is not spectacular, just adequate, despite Toshiba's WOW sound system but if you feed it through an amp or AV system it sounds great.
My only problem with this TV, as another reviewer notes, is the terrible delivery service Amazon uses (Home Delivery Network)- totally disorganised, using the wrong phone number to call me, writing to advise of delivery with the letter arriving after they attempt delivery, agreeing to set a new date but turning up unannounced..actually got the TV by the luck of being unwell and at home when they called. So, the price is excellent as is the TV but if you want it quickly you might want to pay extra to get it somewhere else.

A great disappointment.......2008-01-28
This was my first flat-screen TV purchase, so understandably there was a certain amount of excitement about the arrival of my Samsung at home. I'm fairly technically proficient, but (sadly) I must admit what swung it for me with the Samsung was its dramatic and very cool looks. I wish I had read a few more reviews. The TV has been a consistent pain to operate. The picture quality is very pastelly (if this is a word - but you know what I mean) and soft, but the main issue I have is a much more technical one. Every time I turn the television on, it tells me there is no signal - I then have to turn it off - wait about 30 seconds - and then turn it back on. About 50 percent of the time it revives itself and finds a signal, but sometimes I have to go through this switch-on-switch-off routine three or four times before it decides it will display a picture. After five months of this it's no surprise that I am massively disappointed about my new TV. All I want to do is switch on the television and watch a program. The torturous process I have to go through every time I turn the TV on has now become a bit of a surreal joke in my household. Although they are more expensive I should have bought a Sony to start with. My DVD Hard-Drive player/recorder/tuner manages to pick up a signal from the same freeview arial that the TV gets it signal from, every time without a problem, so this is not a signal strength issue. And in fact if I get sick of trying to get the TV to work I watch the TV through the DVD source. Of course nobody wants to know about this issue apart from the usual "It's not our problem". Samsung, if I am paying this much for a television, it should work faultlessly.
A big disappointment.......2008-01-26
I have had this tv for a few weeks now. It can handle a picture broadcast in HD pretty well, however, at the moment there aren't that many tv programmes or films broadcast in HD. With non HD broadcasts, the picture can be a bit iffy and not as good as on the tv it replaced. I find myself forever going back into the menu to try to set up a decent picture.
Although it boasts that it can handle fast moving pictures well, eg sport, it can't. The amount of picture motion is very surprising even with the motion balance turned on. I watch a lot of footer and the picture when the players are running around the pitch in long view is very poor.
However, the worst feature is the sound - it is appalling. It is without doubt the worst sound quality I have heard from a tv ever. I am now looking for some external speakers.
I wish I could send it back.
Nice!.......2008-01-23
Great looking TV.
Black isn't great, sound is a bit tinny. But add some speakers and the problem is sorted.
No problems after 12 months of use, very reliable, comes into its own when used for HD pictures.
Perfect for HD !!!!

Affordable price, decent quality, good input options.......2008-01-19
I bought this over the Christmas period. I am quite happy with the purchase considering the price and after having a 28 inch CRT for more than a year, it was a much better experience.
The picture quality is decent for the price. There are few false color contouring, specially on blacks. To counter that, I have increased the brightness, which lowers the false gradients.
I have also seen few higher price lcd sets but I would rate this one the same.
If you dont want to spend too much, this is great value specially when considered it has 2 yr. warranty!
great product but BUY OFF EBAY!!!!!.......2008-01-10
this tv is great i love it, but i was given delivery times between the 3rd and 6th of january which is poor they couldnt tell me the day, so i booked off the 3rd and 4th to wait for it it eventually arrived on the 9th and was in work so had to collect it from parcel force depot 20 miles away,i wasnt happy, if you want this product buy it off ebay its slightly cheaper, a friend of mine ordered one off there the day after me and recived it 2 days before me and payed less postage wish id done that. but again tv i cant fault
hdmi .......2007-11-09
i just got the hannspree 37in tv and its tops
the only problem is it only has 1 hdmi input
the picture quality for the money is great
this is a classy looking tv and a bargain
The best telly on the market.......2007-11-02
This is a supurb telly the picture is cyrstal clear what a buy I am buying another today
Its all good!.......2007-09-04
First of all delivery was quick; I ordered (using 1st class) on sunday and received it tuesday.
I'd just like to say that the contrast ratio is actually 800:1. I've actually noticed on various websites that the contrast ratio is usually 200 less than advertised for a lot of TV's, my last widescreen also.
I am yet to use any HD equipment on this TV yet but hope to get a PS3 to use on it soon. However, the picture quality is good, well bit better than good! so far I have used my DVD player and digital box with it and I have no complaints.
The TV is very easy to set-up and use and the OSD menu is straightforward and no nonsense.
Overall this TV is good value and quality and I hope to hold on to it for a good while to come.

Philips 37PFL5522D.......2008-01-13
Great TV - thou' takes some getting used to. I was going to get the 42" version but I'm glad I got this as it is massive. You need to view from about 10' back to get a good image, another reason why getting a massive TV is not too clever - you may need to sit in the street to get a good image. This Philips looks very modern, was easy to setup and get going. I'd recommend a component connection for games consoles (or HDMI) as the image is brilliant. Sound on this is great too. Well worth the price I paid.
Very Happy with TV.......2008-01-09
The only thing i haven't liked about the service was that it took 7 day's to get here even though it's on first class delivery.
I read the review before and tend to agree yea there are TV's out's there with a slightly better picture but there's nothing in it really. The sound is fine. It looks very pretty.
Overall for the money i think it's a brilliant buy !
Great picture but sound lets it down.......2007-06-27
Firstly, I took a risk buying this TV without reading any reviews as it has only just come out. The set itself is very attractive in gloss black. The picture quality is excellent in HD, this is helped by the 6ms response time. Colours are vibrant and rich. Black levels are good for an lcd of this size. More expensive sets could better it though. For the best performance stick to 1080p or 720p. Standard definition holds up well too. The sound quality is the only let down, often sounding too deep and difficult to pick out voices. However, if you're buying a screen of this size, chances are you'll be running it through a surround sound system anyway. All in all, very good for the money plus it displays 1080p!

Delighted,but.................................................2008-01-19
After many months buying the mags, checking the various stores, I decided on a Panasonic. I set my sights on the 32" XLD700 which is everybodys top lcd. Then I foolishly decided I wanted something bigger( kids !!)Slightly spur of the moment decision, it was available locally with 3 year warranty, only £40 more expensive than here and I could it get into my car right there and then.
Dead easy to set up, basically switch on ,a few on screen instructions that didnt require rocket science. Standard Digital tv pic is great, would give just short of 5 stars,as long as you sit the 2 - 3 metres from the set. I am very disappointed in standard DVD pic, can get a bit hazy round margins,I noticed this in the shop and the cheaper Toshiba beside it was better, I spoke to them and they showed me the multisocket scart that was supplying the same pic to about 8 sets and they blamed that - they did say I could return the set (try doing that !!)
My DVD player is an early JVC , so possibly that is the problem. Its too early to decide on HDDVD/BlueRay.
Ironically I was in a Comet a few days ago and they had set up side by side the Panasonic 32" XLD700, This 37" and the 37" plasma all playing the same Hi Def picture. There was not a lot in it , but this set came out bottom. The 32" was impressively sharper - they must have known I was coming !!!!!
I like to watch films when the kids are in bed,so perhaps a new DVD player will soothe my hyper critical eyes. The kids of course love it.
Panasonic TX37LZD70.......2008-01-08
Like the other two reviewers we spent an age researching which LCD TV to buy and finally settled on this model - we are not disappointed in any way. It looks great, pictures are way better then anything else I tested before buying - SD broadcasts are amazing and gaming via an Xbox 360 looks fantastic. Standard DVD viewing is also excellent - have'nt tried full HD yet. It is easy to get bogged down with all the technical jargon on the internet and even specialist magazines, so felt the need yo write a few words on this TV for anyone else looking for the bottom line - BUY ONE NOW, YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!
Excellent.......2008-01-03
Having spent getting on for a year (yes, a year) researching a new TV to replace our old CRT monster when 'What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision' mag gave this a five star review we settled on this one (we wanted to future proof it as much as possible hence the wait for a top-notch 1080p 37" set). They argued that the 37" plasma is slightly better, but we made the decision that the lower power consumption of LCDs was the way forward (relatedly there is an on-off button on this set which means no leaving it in standby).
Pictures are very crisp on the excellent built in freeview tuner and HD content (via blu-ray) looks fantastic. We've yet to spot any motion-blurring at all and low-lighted scenes look great. The programme guide and remote are intuitive and well-laid out. If you own a PS3 you're in for a real treat when you load up your first game via HDMI (I was blown away with how good Ratchett TOD looked).
The slight drawbacks - it's very wide for a 37" (103cm), so measure where you're going to place it first, and the sound is a little weedy for my ears - I have the bass turned up to max and it doesn't come any where near our old CRT. However, I'm sure I'll get used to the latter and perhaps it's time for home cinema...
Overall, a brilliant TV worthy of 5 stars.
Brilliant!.......2007-12-19
Having done lots of research we narrowed our choice of 37" TVs to the Sony and Panasonic. We chose the Panasonic because the non-HD picture was better (nothing to choose when it came to HD). Set up was a doddle and took no more than 10 minutes even given that our (very old) sky box refused to work initially. We find we are watching the Freeview channels without using sky. The picture is brilliant and there is no blurring with fast moving sports pictures (non-HD). Just the right size for our viewing distances of 2 - 3 metres without overwhelming the room. Looks very stylish too. Bought locally (sorry Amazon!) simply because of the 5 year free warranty on parts and labour and same day (after 2 hours) delivery. Look no further for a 37" TV!
