Good quality design!.......2007-11-26
The transparent Macbook case I purchased proved to be very well designed. It comes in two parts, one for the top and one for the bottom exterior surface of the Macbook. It's very easy to click on and take off, and fits snugly. There are vents on the bottom part to allow for heat exchange. Importantly, I found that the holes for all the ports on the sides are perfectly sized. The case itself seems to be made from semi=flexible plastic and is good at handling the wear and tear of daily use while protecting the precious Macbook inside :-)
Easy, pretty and useful!.......2007-10-20
Bought this after looking online and getting advice from the Apple pros in the store. Very nicely made and simple to click into place. I had seen a few reviews online saying it was difficult to remove so I tried it right away - took about 10 second to remove top and bottom so no problem there. If you're a purist it will protect from surface damage, or if you're like me it gives you an excuse to put stickers (my business logo, honest!) on your MacBook. It's the only protection I could find that is in place while using the laptop, in case of an accidental drop or slip.
erm....Its a case... and its red........2007-09-12
My first impressions after a few weeks of having this on my macbook is that I'm impressed.
Not sure why I went for the red over the clear but once it was on, my macbook looks like a totally different machine and I don't regret it. Putting it on is very straight forward as it just clips on. Getting it off is a little tricky but do-able, it certainly doesn't feel like its going to fall off at a moments notice.
It adds very little to the size and weight of the case (I can still fit it into my insight slip case, but its a bit of a squeeze now) and just gives the sense of being able to take a few more knocks than before. I've taken to just carrying it around without the slip case and putting it straight into my bag's laptop section as a result.
I was worried about it overheating, but TBH I haven't noticed any increase in temp overall.
The only problem I have had is that the hole for the headphone port is a little small and will not take some of my chunkier 3.5mm jacks, I may have a go with a file at some point to make it a few mm larger so I'm not too fussed as I can get my regular headphones to plug in.

Macbook = MAChine.......2007-04-14
I've been a windows user all my life. With university dawning and my savings waiting I knew I needed something substanial to last me the 5 year course. So after much consideration I opted for this spec of macbook. 120GB hard drive is great, I've got my entire music libary on here, with videos, and files with bags of room left. 1 GB RAM allows me to use as many programmes as I can handle, I loose track at about 6 but the macbook is speedy quick in each and all. Add to this that Windows can be run using either the free 'bootcamp' programme from apple, or 'parallels' independent programme, and that Office can be used in OS X, I genuinely can't fault it. On day 2 of owning it, I decided to stick my first ever clip on youtube. From bluetoothing video's across from my phone, to editing in imovie, and uploaing the whole process took just 15 minutes. My first time using imovie and you tube! You can do so much with this machine, and it's not just fun orientated, it can handle great amounts of data quickly and easily. The OS is simple and very intuitve to use - i was worried that I wouldnt cope after windows, but it's so easy!
I'm absoloutely thrilled with my macbook, and whole heartedly recommend it to anyone!
The best yet.......2006-12-14
I've been a user of Apple computers for 16 years and a user of Apple laptops for 7 years.
This is without doubt the fastest yet. Packed with features, like Airport and Bluetooth
that you would once have had to pay more for. I've bought the black model. I know it's
probably a vanity thing, but I still yearn for the look of the Powerbook G3 Wall Street
I used to own years ago.
Come on switch from your virus-plagued PC and get on board the 21st century.

Customer Reviews:
My favourite laptop so far.......2008-01-03
I have now had many laptops, and have always been caught in the compromise between lightweight and powerful... that was until I got hold of the SZ1 version of this laptop, Ok it may be pricier than its competitors but its certainly worth paying that bit extra.
I had some use of the customer services when I managed to turn off my flash card in device manager; freephone, very well informed, friendly and fluent english staff.
Following this I decided to upgrade to this laptop as it is basicly the same but with much higher spec. The fingerprint scanner still amazes people and is actually very useful, the built in camera is good enough for video chats, and I have had no trouble installing any of my peripherals onto it yet.
There also seems to be an IT guy living inside it as it manages to automatically connect to my local (Quite complicated to set up) Wireless network with only the network name and password which has flummuxed half the other laptops that try to use it as they require all the security settings entering manually.
I am also quite in shock at reviews rating this laptop as 1/5 due to it having bundled software. If you can use a computer you will be able to uninstall the bundled software with ease, although the majority of it is not trial-ware and is actually very useful.
To finish off, its sleek, its stylish, and if its good enough for James Bond, its good enough for me
Too much junk software makes it too slow. I suggest you install Sun's Solaris x86 and forget Vista.......2007-11-23
This is an expensive high-spec laptop with good hardware, but is let down by the software.
1) It has Vista, which is such a hog of resources that it is slow.
2) Sony install so much junk software. Some you can uninstall, but much of it you can't. Much of it is pretty useless - the only worthwhile program is Adobe's software for creating PDF files. But for some reason the installation of that got corrupted, so the only way out was to reset the machine back to factory defaults, and install all my software again.
The biggest improvement I have made to this is to install Sun's Solaris operating system on it. Solaris comes with all the common applications (Firefox for browsing the web, Thurnderbird for email, StarOffice to work with Word, Excel, Powerpoint files. The machine is now much more responsive. Solaris is free, and at the minute Sun will even send you a DVD free, with Sun paying the postage costs!
Before deciding Vista was not for me, I did pay to upgrade it to Vista Ultimate. Then when I had driver issues, Sony said Vista Ultimate was unsupported, and were not too helpful. That I find annoying as they shipped the upgraded DVD, they add links on the laptop to the site where to upgrade, and it SONY that took my money for it.
Battery life is pretty good, and it is very quick if you get rid of Vista.
Ok hardware, but crippled by Sony's software.......2007-08-06
I've bought a number of top end Sony laptops in the past, and this latest purchase definitely marks the end of the line. The overall trend I've seen is more pre-installed software and lower build quality.
The pre-intalled Sony utilities, survey software, auto-updates, added value services, contantly disrupt my work with useless prompts. My customer presentations are ruined as the next prompt breaks my flow, forcing me to find how to side-step the latest demand to take part in a Sony survey etc. And the system takes ages to boot up, bogged down by all this rubbish.
I'm also a highly tech-savvy user, but I'm totaly beaten trying to uninstall the Sony junkware. As far as I can see, it's not uninstallable. So I tried to re-install Windows Vista, but now I'm in driver hell, as I can't find the hardware drivers to get functions like the high res display, mousepad and wireless working again.
All in all, this laptop might be fine if you need an entertainment PC for your kids. But if you're a time-pressed professional with a job to do, then this purchase will take you to new levels of frustration and work inefficiency.

A fantastic Laptop.......2007-06-15
I bought this in January when it first came out, and since the day I got it I have been impressed. Out of the box it takes minutes to set up (inputting things like your computer's name and setting up an account with Apple if you want to) and then you are straight in. Apple don't exaggerate when they say you can use this out of the box - you don't have to install anything, all that you need is there.
It behaves like a PC but better - you not only have a Microsoft Office 'test drive' built in, you have iTunes, iPhoto, the iSight camera, Front Row (a beautiful interface for accessing photos, movies, CDs, Music and films via a tiny remote in full screen view) and so many more little things to discover. And that, for me, is the best thing about my MacBook - every day I can find something new, whether it's a new program I didn't know existed, a new trick for accessing something, the way you can add widgets from the internet. Everything is exciting to do. Also, in response to A Stead's review below, it is possible to set the right-click option (as it would be on windows) to 'place two fingers on the mouse pad and click'. The 'two fingers on the mouse pad' technique can also be used for scrolling (draw fingers up or down mouse pad to scroll) which is incredibly useful for web pages etc.
The battery life is pretty good, and you can have different set-ups depending on your preference - Better Energy Savings sends the computer to sleep after 5 minutes, better performance decreases screen brightness etc. There is also the option to simply shut the laptop at any time, and, unlike a windows laptop, when you re-open it it is immediately back where it was before - no extra loading time, no 'waking up', you can open it and within a second be back to working on whatever you want.
Important to note, though - the current MacBook is running MacOS 10 Tiger, which is due to be upgraded in October to MacOS 10 Leopard, which looks great. If you are thinking of buying a MacBook, I would advise you wait until then to get the new features that are included.
Overall a fantastic Laptop, and I would strongly advise you buy one if you are looking for a new computer. But I would advise you, unless you are desperate, to wait until October when you will have the benefit of a new Operating System
hmmmm.......2007-06-13
OK, so i've had the macbook for about a month now and i'm writing this review on it. Its a great thing, the best thing is actually opening the box when you get it. If you're a pc user and you're wondering to switch there are things to think about:
There's an isight camera built into this thing, you'd think that'd be amazing what with all your msn contacts - its not. The msn version available for mac is limited and does not support any webcam, let alone isight. Despite this, you'd think there would be some third party software, some substitute that lets you video chat with your msn contacts - there isn't. Apparently no one can write apps that do mic and webcam together. The only option is to use skype, which is a godsend but if your like me and no one you know really uses skype and most of your contacts use msn then its a bit disappointing.
There's no right click on a mac. If you want to right click, you have to ctrl+click. Its a pain basically and a surprising number of apps support the right click when you would assume most would just support one click.
Limited software - the software provided is perfect, it all works fast and integrates really well. The thing is thats it...you're done...With windows, im used to trying out different apps and getting my system more adjusted to my preferences that way...With mac you really have to rely on apple which is fine as they generally are ahead of the game but it can make using the thing a bit more boring.
Ok, so ive talked about stuff mac kinda falls short on, now things with the macbook -
Screen - if you're worried about the size, its actually fine. In general with laptops, i can't use them for really intricate things so i connect my macbook up to an external screen - with my minidvi-dvi connector i bought from apple - works really well. I think it'd be the same for any laptop, not specific to macbook's 13inch screen.
Heat - It gets hot, sometimes uncomfortably on bare skin, like all laptops. There's no problem with it though and it takes quite a while to do so.
Battery Life - this is immense compared to my old laptop. Its up to about 4 hours. Also when you close the thing it sleeps and wastes no battery life at all, then wakes instantaneously.
keyboard - really easy to use because keys are so far apart.
Casing - Ive got the white one but i know a guy with a black one and i think its the same...The case seems pretty markable. Its such a beautiful thing that the last thing you want to do is mark it. This makes using it a bit worrysome. I think i'd prefer using a more durable laptop like maybe the macbook pro which is metal.
thanks, sorry i rambled a bit but its important to research as much as you ca before buying things like this so i hope it helped.
great will buy from now on.......2007-05-11
apple, does what it says on the tin.
easy to use all the programs just work, you dont have to download loads of programs just to find one you like or install new software evertime you buy a new camara.
some things are different and take a bit of getting used to, and somethings you just cant do but worth it. would never go back to a pc
An outstanding machine.......2006-12-30
Apple hardware really is incredible - I replaced a Windows laptop with this MacBook and I'm very happy indeed with it. It's incredibly quick, has a great screen and looks fantastic. OSX is easy to get to grips with and suffers from non of the virus/spyware/worm problems that Windows is so plagued with.
Apple has released the free 'bootcamp' software which enables you to dual boot between Windows and OSX. I prefer to run Parallels which let's you run Windows within OSX - the latest version makes the whole process seamless - you can run Windows and OSX applications side-by-side on the desktop at full speed.
Highly recommended - I replaced my desktop with an iMac too!
